An object-oriented design methodology, such as the object modeling technique (OMT) of Rumbaugh et al., not only unifies database design with applications software design, it abstracts the design process and supports implementation regardless of the data model used.

It is of great interest to develop a framework containing a library of the main building blocks of common use to neutrosophic data. This framework would save much of the routine work that is needed to build most types of neutrosophic data. In this paper, we would like to introduce model neutrosophic data sets. The use of object oriented programming techniques and concepts as they may apply to the design and development a new framework to implement neutrosophic data operations

The purpose of this thesis is to develop the design and specifications of an Object-Oriented Data Manipulation Language (O-ODML) for an Object-Oriented Data Model Language (O-ODM) constructed to test and demonstrate the Multimodel and Multilingual Database System at the Naval Postgraduate School Laboratory for Database Systems Research, Monterey California. New database applications, such as images and graphics databases, scientific databases, engineering design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM and CIM), require complex objects capable of storing images or large textual items and defining nonstandard application-specific operations. Traditional data models/languages were designed for record keeping, inventory control, product assemblies and inference making. In these traditional models, information about such complex objects is often scattered over many relations or records, leading to a loss of direct correspondence between a real-world object and its database representation. (Ref. 8) This thesis developed an O-ODML to include such features as object creation and destruction, search and retrieve queries, attribute-set operations, input/output operations and covering relationships. For compilation, the thesis includes the detailed specifications of the grammar, production rules, syntax, and symbols for the O-ODML. Thus the 0-ODML and O-ODM incorporate the ability to construct data structures that maintain the functional persistence of data, to specify intrinsic methods for manipulating data and to create objects with both ordinary attributes as well as sub-objects of sets that are independent of the original object.

One of the characteristics of real-time systems is concurrency. Designers of real-time systems have traditionally determined system concurrency at implementation time using the facilities of a cyclic executive. With the advent of programming language constructs for specifying concurrency, determining concurrency at design time has become a possibility. Several design methods, all of which are extensions of either Structured Design or Jackson System Development, provide heuristics to help the designer make concurrency decisions. The object-oriented approach, however, has no corresponding heuristics to aid designers of real-time systems. The purpose of this thesis was to develop heuristics to help designers make concurrency decisions in developing object-oriented designs of real-time systems. This was accomplished by examining existing heuristics from other design methods and applying them to the object- oriented paradigm. Four heuristics were developed, the first of which exploits the potential in object-oriented design to model the problem-space. The other three heuristics deal with concurrency which is not necessarily reflected in the problem-space, but must be implemented for practical reasons. The heuristics were validated by applying them to a sample problem, then having the heuristics and the design of the sample problem evaluated by a group of software engineering experts.

Object-oriented relationships, such as inheritance and covering can not be readily incorporated in classic data models. This thesis addresses this problem by the design and implementation of an object-oriented data model (O- ODM), that incorporates the object-oriented paradigm. A Multimodel and Multilingual Database System called M2DBS has been developed at the Naval Postgraduate School. This system incorporates the classic database data models along with a recently developed object-oriented data model (O-ODM). The problem addressed by this work is to design a new object-oriented data manipulation language (O-ODML) for the O-ODM. The approach is to develop and construct an O- ODML Compiler. Then assimilate the compiler with the Kernel Mapping System (KMS) of the M2DBS. The result of this thesis is a compiler for the O-ODML of the O- ODM. This O-ODML compiler takes an O-ODM query converts it into a low level intermediate language before translating it into a format that the Real Time Monitor can execute on the M2DBS. (AN)

Performance prediction of turbomachines is a significant part of aircraft propulsion design. In the conceptual design stage, there is an important need to quantify compressor and turbine aerodynamic performance and develop initial geometry parameters at the 2-D level prior to more extensive Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses. The Object-oriented Turbomachinery Analysis Code (OTAC) is being developed to perform 2-D meridional flowthrough analysis of turbomachines using an implicit formulation of the governing equations to solve for the conditions at the exit of each blade row. OTAC is designed to perform meanline or streamline calculations; for streamline analyses simple radial equilibrium is used as a governing equation to solve for spanwise property variations. While the goal for OTAC is to allow simulation of physical effects and architectural features unavailable in other existing codes, it must first prove capable of performing calculations for conventional turbomachines. OTAC is being developed using the interpreted language features available in the Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) code described by Claus et al (1991). Using the NPSS framework came with several distinct advantages, including access to the pre-existing NPSS thermodynamic property packages and the NPSS Newton-Raphson solver. The remaining objects necessary for OTAC were written in the NPSS framework interpreted language. These new objects form the core of OTAC and are the BladeRow, BladeSegment, TransitionSection, Expander, Reducer, and OTACstart Elements. The BladeRow and BladeSegment consumed the initial bulk of the development effort and required determining the equations applicable to flow through turbomachinery blade rows given specific assumptions about the nature of that flow. Once these objects were completed, OTAC was tested and found to agree with existing solutions from other codes; these tests included various meanline and streamline comparisons of axial compressors and turbines at design and off-design conditions.

In this thesis, we discuss the design issues of a stylized natural language syntax for Omega, an object-oriented programming language built upon rule-based pattern matching. Emphasis is placed on simplicity and flexibility in the design. The feasibility of the proposed grammar (Omega-1.5) is evaluated by developing a prototype translator to translate the Omega-1.5 grammar into the predicate logic style of Omega-1. Sample applications are provided to examine the features of the grammar and to explore possible application areas. Limitations in the design are analyzed and potential amelicriations are suggested. We conclude with a general assessment of the overall Omega system. (Author)

This paper reports on a study of systems analysis textbooks in terms of topics covered and academic background of the authors. It addresses the consistency within IS curricula with respect to the content of a systems analysis and design course using the object-oriented approach. The research questions addressed were 1: Is there a consistency among Object-Oriented Systems Analysis and Design Texts. 2: If there is not consistency, are the books technology-oriented, or business process oriented? 3: Is there a relationship between the authors' academic background and the focus of the text? It appears that the author's background is an important consideration--as much as the title and contents--in the selection of an appropriate object oriented textbook for an object oriented systems analysis course. One focus is the application of object oriented systems analysis tools and techniques in conjunction with business process, while the technical focus is on programming technique and process.

Parallel finite element algorithms based on object-oriented concepts are presented. Moreover, the design and implementation of a data structure proposed are utilized in realizing a parallel geometric multigrid method. The ParFEMapper and the ParFECommunicator are the key components of the data structure in the proposed parallel scheme. These classes are constructed based on the type of finite elements (continuous or nonconforming or discontinuous) used. The proposed solver is compared with the open source direct solvers, MUMPS and PasTiX. Further, the performance of the parallel multigrid solver is analyzed up to 1080 processors. The solver shows a very good speedup up to 960 processors and the problem size has to be increased in order to maintain the good speedup when the number of processors are increased further. As a result, the parallel solver is able to handle large scale problems on massively parallel supercomputers. The proposed parallel finite element algorithms and multigrid solver are implemented in our in-house package ParMooN.

Reliability is one of the highly significant quality indicators of object oriented software. Its proper measurement or evaluation, constantly facilitate and improve the software development process. On the other hand, reliability has always been a mysterious theory and its truthful measurement or evaluation is a complex exercise. Researchers and practitioners have always argued that reliability should be considered as a key feature in order to promise the quality software. A perfect measure of software quality fully depends on reliability measurement, and as an outcome estimating reliability is a complex problem attracting significant research consideration. This review paper presents the results of a systematic literature review conducted to gather facts on software reliability estimation of object oriented design. In this review paper, our contribution is to discover the available recognized comprehensive and an absolute model or frameworks for measuring the reliability of object oriented design at an early phase of development life cycle

This thesis deals with the design of a Navy battle group logistics simulation system to support battle group logistics coordinators. BGLCSS 2.0, the Battle Group Logistics Coordinator Support System, was designed and developed using a structured programming paradigm. A subset of BGLCSS 2.0 was then designed using an object-oriented programming paradigm. We present the components of each of these designs in C and C++. Our approach was to compare and critique these two designs with respect to the extent to which their respective programming paradigms meet the software goals of software reusability and ease of program extension and maintenance. We designed the graphical user interface using TAE Plus which generated code in both C and C++. This mechanism provides an easy way to transport the interface from a C implementation to a C++ implementation in the future.

To date, there is no design methodology that is universally accepted by the object-oriented community. Several such methodologies, however, have been proposed. They are all somewhat similar in their approach to identifying and defining the objects and in organizing them into class hierarchies. The methodology proposed in this paper is the result of a research project in object-oriented design, and benefited from the experience acquired during the design of the Tactical Database for the Low Cost Direction System.

Work for this grant enabled the advancement of the state of research for areas of fuzzy spatial data modeling, uncertainty and conflation. Specific published work supported by this grant included a range of topics, including: fuzzy spatial relationship refinements, spatial query interfaces, uncertainty in distributed spatial information systems, spatial relationship querying, distributed spatial object-based systems, spatial indexing, distributed conflation model and issues, and an integrated image change detection/conflation algorithm. Special journal issues co-edited by the grant recipient on Spatial Data Management, Uncertainty in Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Data and Distributed Object-Oriented Systems resulted in newly published works from some of the foremost researchers in the area, including Michael Goodchild, Peter Fisher, Hans Guesgen, Douglas Schmidt and others.

In this thesis we describe the design and implementation of two prototype interpreters for Omega, an object-oriented, production-rule programming language. The first implementation is a throw-away prototype written in LISP; the second implementation is a more complete version written in C. The Omega language features two major components: a set of production rules executed through pattern-directed invocation, and a relational data base of values and objects. We develop a simple system of rule evaluation which relies on hashed indexing for rule selection and a list implementation of relations. The system's performance is evaluated in comparison with LISP and Prolog interpreters. We conclude with a discussion of our experience in developing example applications, and recommend extensions to the language based on this experience.

This thesis is a continuation of the ICECAP-PC research project conducted under Prof. Gary B. Lamont at the Air Force Institute of Technology. It is an ongoing development of a public domain Computer Aided Design package for Control Engineering and Digital Signal Processing students, faculty and practitioners with a special emphasis on education. This investigation begins with the software maintenance task of restructuring, debugging, and testing the functional version of ICECAP-PC 9.0. The continuous, traditional portions are then ported to a new object-oriented program structure which is the primary focus of this effort. New interactive graphics capabilities are then added as well as new procedures for the time and frequency response plots. All basic math algorithms are re-written to be more accurate within a contemporary personal computer environment. Finally, using a program extension concept called a toolbox, a Multiple-Input-Single-Output (MISO) Quantitative Feedback Theory (OFT) toolbox is created. This toolbox allows manual, interactive and automatic QFT design for continuous, linear, time invariant MISO control system problems.. .. Argos is a prototype multimedia database developed as both a Battle Group Commander's assessment tool and a shipboard data management tool. The current prototype developed by using HyperCard/Macintosh demonstrates an effective utilization of off-the-shelf technology to solve real world problems commonly faced by the United States Navy. The ultimate goal of Argos is to provide database support for the Paperless Ship. Keywords: HyperCard computer program, HyperTalk programming language, Implementation.

Design reuse has more potential for increasing the productivity of software development and maintenance than do traditional approaches to software reuse that emphasize reuse of smaller components. Current software development methods do not promote design reuse. The literature contains limited documented research on the subject, but enough that some design reuse principles can be gleaned. Among these principles are that reusable designs should be applicable within some domain of application, have a consistent structure, provide a method for instantiating the design, avoid object nesting, and promote reuse of smaller components as well. A design mapping method from an object-oriented requirements analysis to a design that follows the principles of design reuse is presented in this thesis. The mapping method involves two transformation steps and introduces four representation tools for conducting the transformations. These tools are the Object-Mapping Table; the Hierarchical-Structure Diagram, which represents the static structure of the design; the Event-Mapping List; and the Object-Event Interconnection Diagram, a graphical representation of the Event-Mapping list to show the design dynamics. The second step transforms these representations into Ada specifications. Design templates are developed to aid in this transformation. The design method is applied to two problems to demonstrate the consistent designs it produces. The first problem is then carried through to completion to demonstrate its feasibility and ease of implementation.
