Smart city implementation, such as smart energy and utilities, smart mobility & transportation, smart environment, and smart living in urban areas is expanding rapidly worldwide. However, one of the biggest challenges that need to be solved is the selection of the appropriate internet of things (IoT) connectivity technologies. This research will seek for the best candidate low power wide area network (LPWAN) technologies such as long-range wide area network (LoRaWAN), narrow-band internet of things (NB-IoT), and random phase multiple access (RPMA) for IoT smart city deployment in Bandung city is based on IoT network connectivity between with six technical evaluation criteria: gateway requirements, traffic/data projection, the best signal level area distribution, and overlapping zones. Bass model is carried out to determine the capacity forecast. While in coverage prediction, LoRaWAN and NB-IoT use the Okumura-Hata propagation, and ErcegGreenstein (SUI) model is used for RPMA. Based on the simulation and performance evaluation results, RPMA outperforms LoRaWAN and NBIoT. It required the least gateway number to cover Bandung city with the best signal levels and overlapping zones.

Physical security of power networks under power injection attacks that alter generation and loads is studied. The system operator employs Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) for detecting such attacks, while attackers devise attacks that are unobservable by such PMU networks. It is shown that, given the PMU locations, the solution to finding the sparsest unobservable attacks has a simple form with probability one, namely, $\kappa(G^M) + 1$, where $\kappa(G^M)$ is defined as the vulnerable vertex connectivity of an augmented graph. The constructive proof allows one to find the entire set of the sparsest unobservable attacks in polynomial time. Furthermore, a notion of the potential impact of unobservable attacks is introduced. With optimized PMU deployment, the sparsest unobservable attacks and their potential impact as functions of the number of PMUs are evaluated numerically for the IEEE 30, 57, 118 and 300-bus systems and the Polish 2383, 2737 and 3012-bus systems. It is observed that, as more PMUs are added, the maximum potential impact among all the sparsest unobservable attacks drops quickly until it reaches the minimum sparsity.

Nowadays, improving the WPCN efficiency problem is the leading research direction in the communication network. In this research, the outage probability (OP) analysis in DF power-splitting (PS) full-duplex (FD) Relaying Network with Impact of Co-channel interference at the destination is proposed and investigated. In the system model section, we present the DF PS FD Relaying Network with Impact of Co-channel interference at the destination. Then in the system performance section, we analyze and derive the closed-form expression of the OP and investigate the effect of the main system parameters on the system network performance. Then, we perform the Monte Carlo simulation to verify the analytical section. This research can provide a new recommendation for the communication network.

Civil authorities and emergency managers need to collect, manage, analyze and display network and geographic information to understand better the connectivity of critical sectors of the community and their spatial relationships to physical attributes of geography and terrain, the built environment, critical infrastructures and key resources, and the proximity of segments of the population/ neighborhoods to local hazards and threats to security. A promising method for the analysis of social relationships is Social Network Analysis (SNA). Instead of focusing on the individual, SNA focuses on an entity comprised of a collection of individuals and their relationships with each other. This allows practitioners to identify and characterize relevant social networks, to isolate ways to improve community resilience, and to improve the quality and speed of critical decision-making processes during a disaster or emergency. In spite of its promise, the combination of SNA and a Geographical Information System (GIS) into a single tool remains elusive. Hence, a tool to visualize and display organizational and social relationships is needed in communities using a GIS to provide a situational awareness picture that highlights vulnerabilities, strengths, and redundancies within such networks. This paper describes the advantages, barriers, and opportunities involved in creating and using an SNA-GIS tool.

Abstract Recently there have been many studies of power systems with a focus on “New and Renewable Energy” as part of “New Growth Engine Industry” promoted by the Korean government. “New And Renewable Energy”—especially focused on wind energy, solar energy and fuel cells that will replace conventional fossil fuels—is a part of the Power-IT Sector which is the basis of the SmartGrid. A SmartGrid is a form of highly-efficient intelligent electricity network that allows interactivity (two-way communications) between suppliers and consumers by utilizing information technology in electricity production, transmission, distribution and consumption. The New and Renewable Energy Program has been driven with a goal to develop and spread through intensive studies, by public or private institutions, new and renewable energy which, unlike conventional systems, have been operated through connections with various kinds of distributed power generation systems. Considerable research on smart grids has been pursued in the United States and Europe. In the United States, a variety of research activities on the smart power grid have been conducted within EPRI’s IntelliGrid research program. The European Union (EU), which represents Europe’s Smart Grid policy, has focused on an expansion of distributed generation (decentralized generation) and power trade between countries with improved environmental protection. Thus, there is current emphasis on a need for studies that assesses the economic efficiency of such distributed generation systems. In this paper, based on the cost of distributed power generation capacity, calculations of the best profits obtainable were made by a Monte Carlo simulation. Monte Carlo simulations that rely on repeated random sampling to compute their results take into account the cost of electricity production, daily loads and the cost of sales and generate a result faster than mathematical computations. In addition, we have suggested the optimal design, which considers the distribution loss associated with power distribution systems focus on sensing aspect and distributed power generation.

In Part I of this paper we propose a decentralized optimal frequency control of multi-area power system with operational constraints, where the tie-line powers remain unchanged in the steady state and the power mismatch is balanced within individual control areas. In Part II of the paper, we propose a distributed controller for optimal frequency control in the network power balance case, where the power mismatch is balanced over the whole system. With the proposed controller, the tie-line powers remain within the acceptable range at equilibrium, while the regulation capacity constraints are satisfied both at equilibrium and during transient. It is revealed that the closed-loop system with the proposed controller carries out primal-dual updates with saturation for solving an associated optimization problem. To cope with discontinuous dynamics of the closed-loop system, we deploy the invariance principle for nonpathological Lyapunov function to prove its asymptotic stability. Simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of our controller.

A combination of oscillatory rhythms has also been described for specific functions, with or without predominance of one specific frequency-band. In a simultaneous fMRI-EEG study at 3 T we studied the relationship between the default mode network (DMN) and the power of EEG frequency bands. As a methodological approach, we applied Multivariate Exploratory Linear Optimized Decomposition into Independent Components (MELODIC) and dual regression analysis for fMRI resting state data. EEG power for the alpha, beta, delta and theta-bands were extracted from the structures forming the DMN in a region-of-interest approach by applying Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography (LORETA). A strong link between the spontaneous BOLD response of the left parahippocampal gyrus and the delta-band extracted from the anterior cingulate cortex was found. A positive correlation between the beta-1 frequency power extracted from the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) and the spontaneous BOLD response of the right supplementary motor cortex was also established. The beta-2 frequency power extracted from the PCC and the precuneus showed a positive correlation with the BOLD response of the right frontal cortex. Our results support the notion of beta-band activity governing the “status quo” in cognitive and motor setup. The highly significant correlation found between the delta power within the DMN and the parahippocampal gyrus is in line with the association of delta frequencies with memory processes. We assumed “ongoing activity” during “resting state” in bringing events from the past to the mind, in which the parahippocampal gyrus is a relevant structure. Our data demonstrate that spontaneous BOLD fluctuations within the DMN are associated with different EEG-bands and strengthen the conclusion that this network is characterized by a specific electrophysiological signature created by combination of different brain rhythms subserving different putative functions.

In a simultaneous fMRI-EEG study at 3 T we studied the relationship between the default mode network (DMN) and the power of EEG frequency bands. As a methodological approach, we applied Multivariate Exploratory Linear Optimized Decomposition into Independent Components (MELODIC) and dual regression analysis for fMRI resting state data. EEG power for the alpha, beta, delta and theta-bands were extracted from the structures forming the DMN in a region-of-interest approach by applying Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography (LORETA). A strong link between the spontaneous BOLD response of the left parahippocampal gyrus and the delta-band extracted from the anterior cingulate cortex was found. A positive correlation between the beta-1 frequency power extracted from the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) and the spontaneous BOLD response of the right supplementary motor cortex was also established. The beta-2 frequency power extracted from the PCC and the precuneus showed a positive correlation with the BOLD response of the right frontal cortex. Our results support the notion of beta-band activity governing the “status quo” in cognitive and motor setup. The highly significant correlation found between the delta power within the DMN and the parahippocampal gyrus is in line with the association of delta frequencies with memory processes. We assumed “ongoing activity” during “resting state” in bringing events from the past to the mind, in which the parahippocampal gyrus is a relevant structure. Our data demonstrate that spontaneous BOLD fluctuations within the DMN are associated with different EEG-bands and strengthen the conclusion that this network is characterized by a specific electrophysiological signature created by combination of different brain rhythms subserving different putative functions.

Underutilized radio frequencies are the chief apprehension in advance radio communication. The radio recourses are sparse and costly and their efficient allocation has become a challenge. Cognitive radio networks are the ray of hope. Cognitive radio networks use dynamic spectrum access technique to opportunistically retrieve and share the licensed spectrum. The licensed users are called primary users and the users that opportunistically access the licensed spectrum all called secondary users. The proposed system is a feedback system that work on demand and supply concept, in which secondary receivers senses the vacant spectrum and shares the information with the secondary transmitters. The secondary transmitters adjust their transmission parameters of transmit power and data rate in such a way that date rate is maximized. Two methods of spectrum access using frequency division multiple access (FDMA) and Time division multiple access (TDMA) are discussed. Interference temperature limit and maximum achievable capacity are the constraints that regulate the entire technique. The aim of the technique is to control the transmitter power according to the data requirements of each secondary user and optimizing the resources like bandwidth, transmit power using machine learning and feed forward back propagation deep neural networks making full use of the network capacity without hampering the operation of primary network.

Irrespective of inclusion of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) in majority of the research proposition for smart city planning, it is still shrouded with some significant issues. A closer look into problems in WSN shows that energy parameter is the origination point of majority of the other problems in resource-constrained sensors as well as it significant minimizes the reliability in standard sensory operation in adverse environment. Therefore, this manuscript presents a novel analytical model that is meant for establishing a well balance between energy efficiency over multi-path data forwarding and reliable operation with improved network performance. The complete process is emphasized during data fusion stage to ensure data quality too. A simulation study has been carried out using benchmarked test-bed of MEMSIC nodes to find that proposed system offers good energy conservation process during data fusion operation as well as it also ensure good reliable operation in comparison to existing system.

This paper investigates the impact of voltage sags on power quality in a 33/11 kV distribution network by analyzing the behavior of different transformer configurations under various fault conditions. Voltage sag, a critical power quality disturbance, affects industrial performance and equipment reliability. Using MATLAB/Simulink, the 33/11 kV network supplying Shakti Nagar (MPPTCL) was modeled and subjected to different types of faults (SLG, DLG, DL, and 3-Φ). Simulation results were analyzed across three transformer configurations—Yg-Yg, Yg-Δ11, and Yg-Y. The performance of each configuration was compared using RMS voltage drop and voltage sag indices. The study concludes that transformer connection significantly influences the severity of voltage sag. The Yg-Y configuration offered the most stable response under SLG fault, while Yg-Δ11 performed better under DL and DLG faults.

The objective of this thesis is to investigate the use of the Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Pole Converter (ARCP) as a DC-to-AC power converter. The advantages and disadvantages of resonant converters over non-resonant, or hard-switched converters, are investigated. Basic ARCP circuit operation is modeled, with emphasis placed on examining the commutation between high and low voltage states. Detailed ARCP converter operation is modeled in software and compared to a software model of a hard-switched converter. Comparisons are made using total harmonic distortion calculations, to establish the reliability of using the hard-switched model to perform control synthesis for the ARCP. Several control algorithms are tested through simulation and the results analyzed. The advantages of performing control in the synchronous vice stationary reference frame are shown. Testing on a reduced-scale circuit model using a digital signal processing system (dSPACE) to implement control algorithms is used to validate the control algorithm simulations. A new method of waveform modulation, Space Vector Control, is introduced and compared with conventional methods. Finally the operation of a prototype ARCP unit is discussed, and recommendations for improvements in future designs are presented.
