4Design, Construction And Programming Of A Microcontroller-based Testbench Suitable For Radiation Testing Of Microelectronic Circuits

This thesis describes the design, construction, and programming of a microcontroller- based testbench suitable for radiation testing microelectronic integrated circuits. It will be used to test circuits fabricated using the Low Temperature Gallium Arsenide (LT GaAs) fabrication process developed by the Naval Postgraduate School and the Naval Research Laboratory. The testbench will be used to test for sensitivity to Single Event Upsets (changes in logic level due to impact by high energy ions). Due to the spurious radiation around the particle accelerator, it will be remotely operated via a serial communication port. Radiation hardened components will eventually be used throughout, although for cost- savings, non-radiation hardened components are used in the initial design described here. The test bench is built around the Intel 8%C51 four-port microcontroller. As part of this research, it will be programmed to test two memory chips, one manufactured by Motorola Inc. and one by Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation. The Motorola chip requires that a special chip carrier with logic translation and output drivers be designed prior to testing

10Need Analysis For The Development Of A Microcontroller Instructional Module Programming Literacy

In the era of the IR 4.0, the use of information technology among school students is widespread but students are not proficient in computer programming. To compete in the digital world, students need to be exposed to computer programming in order to produce computer programming experts. Integrating computer programming into the school curriculum can improve students literacy of computer programming but adequate computer programming skill among teachers are quite limited. Therefore, the development of microcontroller instructional teaching module which could address this problem is needed. This development aims to develop the module using design and developmental research (DDR) approach. Need Analysis phase in DDR is discussed in this article. The phase consists of identifying the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of teachers about microcontroller and to obtain the views and opinions of the teachers on the developmental needs of microcontroller teaching modules. The type of microcontroller and the programming language to be used in the microcontroller module also identified.The results of this study are important to ensure that the design and development of an instructional module for microcontroller education are implemented and have a positive impact on increasing the programming literacy level among secondary school children

15ERIC ED562190: E-Learning System For Learning Virtual Circuit Making With A Microcontroller And Programming To Control A Robot

This paper proposes a novel e-Learning system for learning electronic circuit making and programming a microcontroller to control a robot. The proposed e-Learning system comprises a virtual-circuit-making function for the construction of circuits with a versatile, Arduino microcontroller and an educational system that can simulate behaviors of robots based on programs written by individual experimenters. The proposed system is useful and effective for comprehensive studies on electronic circuits with sensors and for programming robot control. The usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed system were evaluated by five university students. Results showing positive responses, which indicate the usefulness of the proposed system, were obtained from all students. [For the full proceedings, see ED562093.]

This paper proposes a novel e-Learning system for learning electronic circuit making and programming a microcontroller to control a robot. The proposed e-Learning system comprises a virtual-circuit-making function for the construction of circuits with a versatile, Arduino microcontroller and an educational system that can simulate behaviors of robots based on programs written by individual experimenters. The proposed system is useful and effective for comprehensive studies on electronic circuits with sensors and for programming robot control. The usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed system were evaluated by five university students. Results showing positive responses, which indicate the usefulness of the proposed system, were obtained from all students. [For the full proceedings, see ED562093.]

The solution path we describe then consists of developing a mathematical model for how the sensors' data can be mapped to a meaningful measurement, and further, developing an algorithmic model that will be implemented in the microcontroller. Once the system is developed and implemented, students are given an array of similar problems in which they can deploy their data collection system. Results from the implementation of this idea, in two University Physics sections, using Arduino microcontrollers, are also described.

In the era of the IR 4.0, the use of information technology among school students is widespread but students are not proficient in computer programming. To compete in the digital world, students need to be exposed to computer programming in order to produce computer programming experts. Integrating computer programming into the school curriculum can improve students literacy of computer programming but adequate computer programming skill among teachers are quite limited. Therefore, the development of microcontroller instructional teaching module which could address this problem is needed. This development aims to develop the module using design and developmental research (DDR) approach. Need Analysis phase in DDR is discussed in this article. The phase consists of identifying the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of teachers about microcontroller and to obtain the views and opinions of the teachers on the developmental needs of microcontroller teaching modules. The type of microcontroller and the programming language to be used in the microcontroller module also identified.The results of this study are important to ensure that the design and development of an instructional module for microcontroller education are implemented and have a positive impact on increasing the programming literacy level among secondary school children.
