The purpose of this research project is to measure the ability of University students and caregivers of a young child to detect and correctly identify changes in facial emotion expressions. For this purpose an interactive digital child is set up to randomly change facial expressions (Anger, Joy, Fear, Surprise, Disgust, Sadness) while talking with the participant. The participant's task is to keep the conversation going while detecting and identifying changes in the digital child's facial emotion expressions with a button press. The participant's response time and emotion identification is recorded. We expect that the participants who are caregivers of a young child will be faster to detect the changes in facial emotion expressions as well as more accurate in identifying the specific emotions than Undergraduate students (who are not caregivers of a young child).
