Aim: The study was undertaken to determine the expectations that patients staying in surgery clinics have of nurses regarding pain management and interventions of nurses for patients in pain.  Material and Method: The study was descriptively carried out. The study sample was composed of 63 nurses and 315 patients who were operated on and stayed at the surgery clinics of a university hospital. The data were gathered through a face-to-face interview technique using a questionnaire designed and based on the literature. For the examination of the data, numbers, percentages, and means and standard deviations were used.  Results: According to the study findings, the main expectation of all of the patients of the nurses regarding pain management was that nurses should care about and pay attention to pain and monitor whether or not the pain decreased (100%). The main interventions by nurses for pain management were pharmacological interventions requested by doctors (96.8%) and positioning the patients correctly (96.8%). Other frequently used interventions were hot/cold compresses (74.6%), active-passive exercises (71.4%), relaxation exercises (60.3%), and massages (22.2%). The reasons non-pharmacological methods were used less frequently by the nurses included insufficient number of nurses, patients’ reluctance to participate in pain relief techniques, lack of time, and lack of information about pain control.  Discussion: Based on these results, the following are recommended: considering the expectations of patients who undergo surgery, establishing proper nursing approaches for post-operative pain control, training clinic nurses in pain management, and detecting and correcting poor nursing care practices.

The Workload Management System for Nurses (WMSN), which is based on direct and indirect nursing care research, prospectively classifies patients on the basis of direct care requirements and then establishes staffing levels on the basis of both direct care and indirect care workloads. Application of the Department of Defense WMSN to the military burn research center if feasible and has provided data for objective staffing adjustments and validated staffing requirements. In addition, several other quality assurance implications have been realized as a result implementation of the system. (js)

Objective: The objective of this scoping review is to determine the existing set of child mental health competencies for professional nurses for the management of children with mental health problems in health care settings. Introduction: Professional nurses are the largest category of healthcare professionals in any given healthcare setting, and often encounter children with mental health problems in need of quality nursing care. However, professional nurses around the globe, in different specialities, have reported that they feel inadequately prepared to care for children with mental health problems. In South Africa, the South African Nursing Council has developed specific competencies for a range of nursing specialities, excluding child mental health nursing. This means that no programme offerings are envisaged for child mental health nursing in the near future, despite the dire need. Inclusion criteria: The scoping review will include child mental health competencies of any qualified or post registration professional nurses, employed at all levels of health care services focusing on the management of children with mental health problems. Methods: This scoping review will be conducted according the nine steps of JBI Evidence Synthesis and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Literature published in English from 2000 to date will be sourced from 12 databases and two search engines. Two reviewers will independently perform the title and abstract and full text screening. A priori data charting table based on the components of the PCC framework and other relevant information, which aligns with the objectives and research question will be used to present the descriptive results.

A structured approach to fundamentals of nutrition care across Interdisciplinary settings is combined with additional short chapters about special topics in geriatric nutrition. The book is designed to provide highly accessible information on evidence-based management and care for older adults, with a focus on practical guidance and advice across acute, rehabilitation, and primary and secondary malnutrition prevention settings.The cost of malnutrition in England alone has been estimated to be £19.6 billion per year, or more than 15% of the total public expenditure on health and social care. ^65 years. The importance and benefit of specialised nutrition care, delivered by experts in field, is well established for those with complex nutrition care needs. However, despite the substantial adverse impact of malnutrition on patient and healthcare outcomes, specialised management of this condition is often under-resourced, overlooked and under-prioritised by both older adults and their treating teams. As an alternative, timely, efficient, and effective supportive nutrition care opportunities may be appropriately implemented by nurses and non-specialist Interdisciplinary healthcare team members, working together with nutrition specialists and the older adults they care for. Practical, low-risk opportunities should be considered across nutrition screening, assessment, intervention, and monitoring domains for many patients with, or at risk of malnutrition. Whilst a variety of team members may contribute to supportive nutrition care, the nursing profession provide a clear focal point. Nurses across diverse settings provide the backbone for Interdisciplinary teamwork and essential patient care. This open access book aims to primarily support nurses as leaders and champions of multimodal, Interdisciplinary nutrition care for older adults. A structured approach to fundamentals of nutrition care across Interdisciplinary settings is combined with additional short chapters about special topics in geriatric nutrition. The book is designed to provide highly accessible information on evidence-based management and care for older adults, with a focus on practical guidance and advice across acute, rehabilitation, and primary and secondary malnutrition prevention settings.The cost of malnutrition in England alone has been estimated to be £19.6 billion per year, or more than 15% of the total public expenditure on health and social care. ^65 years. The importance and benefit of specialised nutrition care, delivered by experts in field, is well established for those with complex nutrition care needs. However, despite the substantial adverse impact of malnutrition on patient and healthcare outcomes, specialised management of this condition is often under-resourced, overlooked and under-prioritised by both older adults and their treating teams. As an alternative, timely, efficient, and effective supportive nutrition care opportunities may be appropriately implemented by nurses and non-specialist Interdisciplinary healthcare team members, working together with nutrition specialists and the older adults they care for. Practical, low-risk opportunities should be considered across nutrition screening, assessment, intervention, and monitoring domains for many patients with, or at risk of malnutrition. Whilst a variety of team members may contribute to supportive nutrition care, the nursing profession provide a clear focal point. Nurses across diverse settings provide the backbone for Interdisciplinary teamwork and essential patient care. The nursing profession should consequently be considered best placed to administer Interdisciplinary, multimodal nutrition care, wherever specialist nutrition care referrals are unlikely to add value or are simply not available. As such, the book is a valuable resource for all healthcare providers dedicated to working with older patients to improve nutrition care. ;

41DTIC ADA237918: A Study To Determine The Success Of Implementing The Workload Management System For Nurses At Moncrief Army Community Hospital

A descriptive study of the Workload Management System for Nurses (WMSN) was performed at Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson, South Carolina from 1 July to 16 December 1988. Descriptive and correlational statistics were generated from data collected from three medical/surgical nursing units to demonstrate professional and ancillary utilization overall unit staff availability, and the impact of staffing adjustments upon utilization. After segregating the data for each unit into four homogenous groups by shift and day of the week, comparisons of utilization information were made to nursing care hours, census, and changes in census. The study supported the contention that staff were being moved, in part, as a function of the elements of the WMSN. The availability of staff to be moved to meet nursing care needs was found to be a significant limiting factor. The need for follow-up studies and the routine use of the actual staffing Utilization Ratio as a means of communicating staffing needs to the hospital leadership were recommended.

Subjects and Methods: The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a designed program of time management on job satisfaction for head nurses. A Quasi-experimental design was used for a total number of head nurses participated. Two tools of data collection used, namely, time management knowledge Questionnaire and job satisfaction Questionnaire. Results: There was a significant response related to head nurse's time waster post program implemented and three quarter of head nurses reported that job satisfaction was moderate levels post program. There is highly statistically significant relationship between time management and job satisfaction. Recommendation: the study recommended that time management training should be held for all hospitals and hospital personnel, especially nurses who tolerate more problems.
