Flux-switching permanent magnet (FSPM) machine with high temperature superconductors (HTS) bulks located between the rotor poles to eliminate the flux leakage in the rotor, termed as (HTS-FSPM) machine has been proposed in this paper. Using genetic algorithm, the HTS and the conventional FSPM machines having the same size constraints and load conditions have been globally optimized for max aveage torque. To highlight the advantages of the HTS-FSPM machine, a performance comparison between the conventional and HTS-FSPM machines has been presented. It is found that the HTSFSPM machine can increase the torque by 27%, however, this comes with the expense of higher torque ripple and power losses.

The high cost of porting software from one machine to another stems from the ad hoc way in which the programmer's problem solving abstraction interacts with the machine's physical resource abstraction. If this interaction could be formalized, the well known semantic gap would at least be better understood, if not narrowed significantly. This thesis applies techniques borrowed from contemporary research in abstract data type specification to design, specify and implement the physical resources of an abstract machine called AM. To satisfy requirements for productivity, versatility and flexibility, the horizontal form/fill/seal machine was specified and developed (based on the Tiromat 3000) to provide MRE pouch packaging rates of 100 per minute and for integration into the Combat Ration Advanced Manufacturing Technology Demonstration. Over 45,000 pouches have been produced during the test runs (including debugging) at rates up to 102 per minute demonstrated with residual gas levels below 10cc and meeting the other MIL specifications. Performance of the F/F/S machine was enhanced by Rutgers developing a unique method of measurement and analysis of interrelated operations. The method uses a computer based data acquisition system and the existing Tiromat sensors. Cycle (production) rates, quality of packages and control of product slosh were improved. This technique is useful during equipment installation, measuring equipment performance and monitoring package quality. A new version of laminated film was developed by Reynolds Metal that can be formed, sealed to specification and does not delaminate after retorting. Earlier performance will be verified by acceptance testing and NRDEC approval of this alternate pouch production method.

This effort consists of the analysis and design of a user interface which employs several man-machine relations factors; an existing system will be employed as a testbed for these beliefs - the COINS II Terminal Access System (TAS). This new interface must not interfere with the existing TAS user interface; it must coexist with the original and both must be accessible to TAS users. In addition to the software effort, intelligent terminals (i.e., microprocessor controlled) will emulate an electronic desk environment for the user. We feel that such modifications will result in greatly increased user acceptance of TAS, while providing a good indication of how such considerations can be applied to other systems and the possible effects of such efforts.

The man-machine interface (MMI) represents a significant proportion of the hardware and software investment in Air Force C3 system acquisition. Early definition of MMI requirements and provision of design guidance in functional specification may be critical to successful system development. Tentative design guidelines are proposed in this report for further elaboration, trial application and subsequent evaluation in collaboration with selected ESD/MITRE program engineering efforts. This is the Software Concept Document for the Man-machine Integration Design and Analysis System (MIDAS) being developed as part of Phase V of the Army-NASA Aircrew/Aircraft Integration (A3I) Progam. The approach taken in this program since its inception in 1984 is that of incremental development with clearly defined phases. Phase 1 began in 1984 and subsequent phases have progressed at approximately 10-16 month intervals. Each phase of development consists of planning, setting requirements, preliminary design, detailed design, implementation, testing, demonstration and documentation. Phase 5 began with an off-site planning meeting in November, 1990. It is expected that Phase 5 development will be complete and ready for demonstration to invited visitors from industry, government and academia in May, 1992. This document, produced during the preliminary design period of Phase 5, is intended to record the top level design concept for MIDAS as it is currently conceived. This document has two main objectives: (1) to inform interested readers of the goals of the MIDAS Phase 5 development period, and (2) to serve as the initial version of the MIDAS design document which will be continuously updated as the design evolves. Since this document is written fairly early in the design period, many design issues still remain unresolved. Some of the unresolved issues are mentioned later in this document in the sections on specific components. Readers are cautioned that this is not a final design document and that, as the design of MIDAS matures, some of the design ideas recorded in this document will change. The final design will be documented in a detailed design document published after the demonstrations.

Volume 2 of the fundamental work  Machine Tool Design  contains Parts Three and Four. The complete work is to be published in four volumes. Part Three deals with the kinematics of machine tools. This branch of machine tool design has been strictly systematized by the author and is set forth with exceptional clarity. The kinematic structures of many different types of machine tools, including the most complex gear-cutting machines, are analysed by methods developed in the text, which take into consideration the interrelations between the workpiece to be produced in the given machine tool, the cutting tool to be used, the selected processing method, and the kinematic structure of the machine tool. Part Three was written by Professor A. Fedotyonok, D. Sc. (Eng.), whose investigations in this field are well known to all Soviet machine tool designers. Part Four takes up hydraulic drives of machine tools. It contains all the theoretical and practical data required in the application of fluid power and control systems to machine tools. Part Four was written by Associate Professor V. Yermakov, Candidate of Eng. Sc., who lectures on the subject at the Machine Tool Engineering Institute in Moscow. This fundamental four-volume work was written by scientists and specialists on the teaching staff of the Machine Tool Engineering Institute in Moscow. The editor, Prof. N. Acherekan, D.Sc. (Eng.), is an eminent Soviet specialist in machine tool design and the author of over fifty scientific works and textbooks in this field. Prof. Acherekan holds the title of Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation and has occupied the chair of Machine Tool Design for 35 years. Prof. Acherekan graduated from the Warsaw University in 1914, where he majored in mathematics. He received a gold medal for work done in the university. In 1920, he received a second degree from the mechanical engineering department of the Petrograd Polytechnic Institute. The present work was translated from the considerably revised and recently published second edition, which includes all the latest achievements in world machine tool practice. The earlier edition has become an indispensable handbook for Soviet designers. Therefore, the publishers feel that this work should be of great value to engineers engaged in the design, manufacture, and maintenance of machine tool equipment. It can also be used to advantage by the students of engineering institutes majoring in Process Engineering, Metal-Cutting Machine Tools, or Cutting Tool Design. Coconut as a leading commodity in the agricultural sector is a multifunctional plant and can grow in all regions of Indonesia. Even though there are a lot of coconut products in all regions of Indonesia, especially in the regions, the availability of technology to improve the quality of post-harvest production is still low. Therefore this study aims to design a coconut peeler machine. The results of the research are in the form of a portable coconut peeler with a servo motor that can be applied in rural areas to be used by farmers to increase the productivity of post-harvest coconut management. This article is from Journal of Dentistry (Tehran, Iran) , volume 8 . Abstract Objective: One of the major problems of all ceramic restorations is their probable fracture against the occlusal force. The aim of the present in-vitro study is was to compare the effect of two marginal designs (chamfer & shoulder) on the fracture resistance of zirconia copings, CERCON (CAD/CAM). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This in vitro study was done with single blind experimental technique. One stainless steel dye with 50′ chamfer finish line design (0.8 mm depth) was prepared using milling machine. Ten epoxy resin dyes were made, The same dye was retrieved and 50′ chamfer was converted into shoulder (1 mm).again ten epoxy resin dyes were made from shoulder dyes. Zirconia cores with 0.4 mm thickness and 35 μm cement Space fabricated on the 20 epoxy resin dyes (10 samples chamfer and 10 samples shoulder) in a dental laboratory. Then the zirconia cores were cemented on the epoxy resin dyes and underwent a fracture test with a universal testing machine (GOTECH AI-700LAC, Arson, USA) and samples were investigated from the point of view of the origin of the failure. RESULT: The mean value of fracture resistance for shoulder margins were 788.90±99.56 N and for the chamfer margins were 991.75±112.00 N. The student’s T-test revealed a statistically significant difference between groups (P=0.001). CONCLUSION: The result of this study indicates that marginal design of the zirconia cores effects on their fracture resistance. A chamfer margin could improve the biomechanical performance of posterior single zirconia crown restorations. This may be because of strong unity and round internal angle in chamfer margin.
