Coactive Design is a process that addresses the increasingly complex roles that humans and robots play in modern digitalized systems. It analyzes the interdependencies between members in human-robot teamwork and optimizes interactive collaboration to support the team's overall capabilities. The process endeavors to provide designers and industry players with the necessary analysis tools and techniques to move the industry away from robot-centric automation in which the traditional goal has been for robots to perform required tasks independently from the team. The two outcomes of this thesis are (1) the proposal of an integrated Coactive Systems Engineering Design (COSEED) framework to guide the development of more effective human-machine teaming (HMT) systems and (2) a development exercise for an HMT system to demonstrate the potential gains from the incorporation of the Coactive Design approach into the well-established systems engineering process in the field of inland search and rescue. These result in new findings in how both systems engineering and Coactive Design could be adapted to better complement each other.

Generally, the growth of Indian manufacturing sector is largely depends on productivity and quality. Productivity depends upon various factors, one of the major factors is efficiency with which the operation activities are carried out in the industry. Productivity can be highly improved by reducing the machining time and combining the operations etc. As the name indicates multi spindle drilling machines have two spindles driven by a single power head, and these two spindles holding the drill bits are fed into the work piece simultaneously. We can drill two holes at a time with provision of varying centre distance between two drilling spindle. It has advantage of portability. In the conventional manner only one drill can be drilled at a time, but with increase in productivity demands a special purpose machine is needed which will increase productivity by performing multiple operations in one cycle. The Multi spindle drilling machine is an ideal solution to the above problem which is used to perform multi drilling operations at a time. Technological advances have made possible the development of system capabilities which allow more effective weapon system operation under difficult conditions, such as low altitude, high speed, night and all weather. Higher levels of technology integration and combat automation are now becoming essential to enable the pilot to accomplish the critical functions of flight path control, threat management, navigation, attack engagement and weapon system management. Several emerging technologies are now beginning to spawn major innovations in aircraft design, through the use of combat automation concepts. These technologies carry significant implications in respect of pilot workload, situational awareness, crew station controls and displays, and automated system functions including integrity management. Effective and efficient harmonisation of this total weapon system, which must also achieve the essential features of pilot acceptability and safety, is critically dependent on the pilot/vehicle interface. This symposium sought to address these critical issues of combat automation and the man-machine interface. In particular, it considered the major implications and trade-offs involved in varying levels of airframe and weapon systems sophistication and such fundamental choices as that of single seat versus two seat operation. A previous report, asserted the need for man-machine interface (MMI) requirements definition and guidelines in the design of computer-based information systems. The present report extends the treatment of that topic. An initial hierarchic list of functional MMI capabilities, previously proposed for use in requirements definition, is here doubled in size to over 400 items, and has been reorganized to improve its structure. Initial design guidelines proposed for data entry functions are here revised and enlarged to include 79 items. Another 131 guidelines are proposed for sequence control functions. A continuation of guidelines development is recommended, in collaboration with other concerned organizations and agencies.

This project involved defining an Ada pseudo-machine and developing an Ada to pseudo-code test translator. The translator's front end incorporates a table-driven parser that can parse the entire proposed-standard Ada language. The translator's semantic routines allow integer data objects, several control structures, procedures, functions, packages and tasks. These routines generate pseudo-code that is executed by an interpreter program included in the translator. The interpreter constitutes a complete description of the pseudo-machine whose architecture consists of multiple, stack-oriented processors that access a common memory. Interesting features of the project include the hash-coded symbol table that supports Ada's visibility rules and the pseudo-machine architecture that supports Ada's tasking. (Author)

As machine learning moves from being a research discipline to a software one, it is useful to catalogue tried-and-proven methods to help engineers tackle frequently occurring problems that crop up during the ML process. In this talk, I will cover five patterns (Workflow Pipelines, Transform, Multimodal Input, Feature Store, Cascade) that are useful in the context of adding flexibility, resilience and reproducibility to ML in production. For data scientists and ML engineers, these patterns provide a way to apply hard-won knowledge from hundreds of ML experts to your own projects.
