7How Can Knowledge Exchange Portals Assist In Knowledge Management For Evidence-informed Decision Making In Public Health?

By

This article is from BMC Public Health , volume 14 . Abstract Background: Knowledge exchange portals are emerging as web tools that can help facilitate knowledge management in public health. We conducted a review to better understand the nature of these portals and their contribution to knowledge management in public health, with the aim of informing future development of portals in this field. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted of the peer-reviewed and grey literature to identify articles that described the design, development or evaluation of Knowledge Exchange Portals KEPs in the public health field. The content of the articles was analysed, interpreted and synthesised in light of the objectives of the review. Results: The systematic search yielded 2223 articles, of which fifteen were deemed eligible for review, including eight case studies, six evaluation studies and one commentary article. Knowledge exchange portals mainly included design features to support knowledge access and creation, but formative evaluation studies examining user needs suggested collaborative features supporting knowledge exchange would also be useful. Overall web usage statistics revealed increasing use of some of these portals over time; however difficulties remain in retaining users. There is some evidence to suggest that the use of a knowledge exchange portal in combination with tailored and targeted messaging can increase the use of evidence in policy and program decision making at the organisational level. Conclusions: Knowledge exchange portals can be a platform for providing integrated access to relevant content and resources in one location, for sharing and distributing information and for bringing people together for knowledge exchange. However more performance evaluation studies are needed to determine how they can best support evidence-informed decision making in public health.

8A Study Of The Relationship Between Thai Pastors’ Performance In Ministry And Their Management Knowledge And Skills

By

For a long time, I have always been suspicious about the way Thai pastors run their churches. Based upon my not-so-impressive experience in the past, I suspected that their churches should have been more effective and efficient provided that they have good management knowledge and skills. The main purpose of this study is to find out whether the understanding of management knowledge and skills of Thai pastors can enhance the performance of their ministry works, or in other words, on the contrary, the lack of management knowledge and skills hinder their ministerial performance. To satisfy the purpose of the study, I have to find out the relationship between Thai pastors’ performance in ministry and their management knowledge and skills. The study was undertaken using Explanatory Sequential Design of the Mixed Methods where I employed quantitative research and then follow-on with qualitative research. In the quantitative phase, a questionnaire was developed to survey 376 pastors of churches throughout Thailand. Part of the results of the quantitative study was used as a basis for the qualitative study with ten (10) pastors who were drawn from the same pool of the respondents of the quantitatively study.  These results suggest that there is a close relationship between the pastors’ performance in their ministry work and their management knowledge and skill—this is quite expected. However, more specifically, it is found that Thai pastors, in general, have relatively good knowledge of management and skills. This latter result is a little surprising to me as I expect the situation would be the opposite. Despite the results, about the management knowledge of the Thai pastors, first, there is a great improvement potential that can be realized. Most important of all is to enhance the curriculum of seminaries and Bible schools, to incorporate management knowledge to adequately prepare new pastors for the churches. Secondly, there is an equal need for equipping the currently serving pastors and church leaders for them to be better equipped with management techniques and skills for the advancement of Thai churches in the future.

15Using Knowledge Management To Enhance Organizational Performance And Effectiveness

Beyond just system deployment efficiency and labor competency, a number of crucial aspects affect an organization's effectiveness. While the effectiveness of these factors is important, they are not the only factors that matter. The performance as a whole is greatly influenced by a number of other important factors. Recent observations have revealed a consistent upward trend in the metrics related to organizational performance, highlighting the importance of different elements cooperating. Therefore, the main goal of this research project is to carry out a thorough analysis into the complex and dynamic relationship between knowledge management inside an organization and its overall performance. The goal of this study is to delve deeply into the underlying mechanisms and examine how knowledge management techniques directly affect and contribute to an organization's overall performance. The approach used in this study is survey-based, providing for a detailed understanding of the respondents' viewpoints on a variety of topics, including knowledge dissemination, knowledge responsiveness, and organizational skills. By using this technique, the researchers were able to quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate the participants' points of view and acquire important insights into the intricate relationships that exist between knowledge management techniques and an organization's overall success. The survey's findings showed a strong positive relationship between increased organizational performance and effective knowledge management. This beneficial effect was apparent across a number of variables, illuminating the critical roles that organizational capacities, responsiveness to knowledge, and knowledge distribution play in boosting overall efficiency and production within the company. The results do, however, highlight the significance of developing a solid strategy or methodology that guarantees the successful deployment and seamless integration of knowledge management methods inside the business. Recognizing that a complete strategy involving careful planning, strategic alignment, proper resource allocation, and ongoing evaluation is required for the effective transformation of knowledge management within the organizational structure is crucial. Organizations can better harness their intellectual assets and maximize their total performance by concentrating on the implementation of a well-structured strategy, which will support sustained growth and competitive advantage in the dynamic business environment.

22Knowledge Sharing Of Management Undergraduates

By

Lack of knowledge sharing is one of the major issues haunting the university students in Sri Lanka. Knowledge sharing represents a social dilemma where a rational individual may decide to freeride on others knowledge contributions. As knowledge sharing is a social dilemma it is important to investigate the factors affecting for individual's knowledge sharing intention. 30Knowledge Management In Naval Sea Systems Command : A Structure For Performance Driven Knowledge Management Initiative

By

Knowledge Management (KM) has been promoted as a method to leverage an enterprise \"core competence\" to gain an advantage in the market place. The objective is to make the enterprise more competitive and nimble. The ultimate objective of KM is to increase the performance of knowledge-work processes. This research reports on an in-depth evaluation of a DoD organization and the subsequent process redesign to improve knowledge-management (KM) capabilities at a Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) field activity. The entity initially targeted for the initiative is the Submarine Electromagnetic Department of NAVSEA Newport, Undersea Warfare Center Division, but the thesis results are expected to generalize to the NAVSEA enterprise as a whole and possibly well beyond the Navy. Strategy is formulated and the processes of the organization are redesigned to enhance performance through KM. An action research method is employed to understand the culture, people, processes and products of the targeted organization in order to design a KM system that fits the entity. The initial goal is to enable the entity to gain a competitive advantage in its areas of excellence with the long-term goal of expanding the KM initiative across the entire NAVSEA enterprise to maximize NAVSEA's contributions to the fleet.

35Traditional Knowledge Among Zapotecs Of Sierra Madre Del Sur, Oaxaca. Does It Represent A Base For Plant Resources Management And Conservation?

By

This article is from Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine , volume 8 . Abstract Traditional classification systems represent cognitive processes of human cultures in the world. It synthesizes specific conceptions of nature, as well as cumulative learning, beliefs and customs that are part of a particular human community or society. Traditional knowledge has been analyzed from different viewpoints, one of which corresponds to the analysis of ethnoclassifications. In this work, a brief analysis of the botanical traditional knowledge among Zapotecs of the municipality of San Agustin Loxicha, Oaxaca was conducted. The purposes of this study were: a) to analyze the traditional ecological knowledge of local plant resources through the folk classification of both landscapes and plants and b) to determine the role that this knowledge has played in plant resource management and conservation. The study was developed in five communities of San Agustín Loxicha. From field trips, plant specimens were collected and showed to local people in order to get the Spanish or Zapotec names; through interviews with local people, we obtained names and identified classification categories of plants, vegetation units, and soil types. We found a logic structure in Zapotec plant names, based on linguistic terms, as well as morphological and ecological caracteristics. We followed the classification principles proposed by Berlin [6] in order to build a hierarchical structure of life forms, names and other characteristics mentioned by people. We recorded 757 plant names. Most of them (67%) have an equivalent Zapotec name and the remaining 33% had mixed names with Zapotec and Spanish terms. Plants were categorized as native plants, plants introduced in pre-Hispanic times, or plants introduced later. All of them are grouped in a hierarchical classification, which include life form, generic, specific, and varietal categories. Monotypic and polytypic names are used to further classify plants. This holistic classification system plays an important role for local people in many aspects: it helps to organize and make sense of the diversity, to understand the interrelation among plants–soil–vegetation and to classify their physical space since they relate plants with a particular vegetation unit and a kind of soil. The locals also make a rational use of these elements, because they know which crops can grow in any vegetation unit, or which places are indicated to recollect plants. These aspects are interconnected and could be fundamental for a rational use and management of plant resources.

38RESIDENTS’ KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES TOWARD THE USE OF ANALGESICS FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT: A SURVEY IN A TERTIARY LEVEL UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL IN NEPAL

By

Background Pain is still being ignored which has lead to mismanagement in pain treatment in the developing countries. One of the barriers in adequate pain management is lack of adequate knowledge among health personnel including residents who are one of the important personnel that can make difference in pain management as they prescribe analgesics particularly opioids to the patients. Objectives The objective of the study was to find out the attitude and knowledge toward the use of analgesics for pain management in residents.    Methods 90 residents distributed in different departments of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital who prescribe analgesics mainly opioids in the postoperative ward were involved in this study. The data was collected through distribution of self administered questionnaire. Data was entered in Excel and analyzed in SPSS version 21. Results The present study revealed that residents obtained less knowledge and attitude score about pain management, the mean score being 3.6 (3±1.55) out of 9 for knowledge and 25.79 (±4.27) out of 40 for attitude. In our study, attitude and knowledge score of anesthesiology residents were higher than other residents, which was statistically significant. With higher year of residency and past training in pain there was an increment in knowledge but not in attitude. Conclusion It can be concluded that there is inadequate knowledge and attitude of residents regarding the use of analgesic including opioid for pain management, which shows there is a need for inclusion of pain management in medical education and organization of regular training program for residents.

40Antecedents Of Knowledge Management Practices: Case Of Malaysian Practitioners

By

In this paper, we investigated the knowledge management (KM) behavior of executives in Malaysia who work in different sectors and involved in Information Technology (IT) related fields. We proposed a conceptual framework based on the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) to study their intention and involvement in KM initiatives. The knowledge creation theory (SECI process) was employed to operationalize KM intention and KM behavior. We proposed six independent variables that represent the social-cultural nature of KM as the antecedence of KM intention. These variables are trust, management support, decentralization, IT support, performance expectancy (PE), and effort expectancy (EE). Seventy-four executives from both private and government-linked organizations responded to our online questionnaire. SmartPLS3 was used to run the analysis. The reliability was ensured with the factor loadings, Cronbach’s alpha, Composite Reliability (CR) that met the fit requirement of above 0.6, 0.7 and 0.7 respectively. The convergent validity was confirmed through average variance extracted (AVE) that met the fit requirement of above 0.5. The discriminant validity was assessed by using Fornell and Larcker’s criterion. Finally, the structural model confirmed that only PE of KM, and EE of KM are the significant predictors of KM intention and the KM intention significantly predicts KM behavior. The implications of the findings are discussed in detail at the end of the paper.

42Presenting The Knowledge Management Strategcompilation Model Based On Business Strategy

Purpose:   The primary purpose of this manuscript is to present the knowledge management strategy compilation model based on Business strategy. Methodology:  This research uses quantitative and qualitative methods to extract the key components of the organization's knowledge strategy from descriptive and analytical (qualitative) methods. Quantitative and statistical methods will be used to validate the model. Findings:  The research results showed that to develop a knowledge strategy model since knowledge management processes are carried out in the organization's context, they are under the influence of the organization's background. The organization field includes 1) knowledge management enablers such as organizational factors (such as structure and culture) and technology, and 2) knowledge management drivers such as business strategy and intellectual resources of the organization. Also, knowledge and learning should support the organization's business strategy. Originality/Value:  The focus of knowledge management so far is more on knowledge enablers, such as Creating a suitable cultural structure for the creation and sharing of knowledge or the development of technologies to facilitate these matters, and much less emphasis on the drivers of knowledge management such as; the mission and strategy of the organization has been realized, which makes knowledge management, although it works very well in its defined area, ultimately does not have a favorable effect on the performance of the organization. This research aims to design a model to develop a knowledge strategy and establish the correct relationship between knowledge strategy and business strategy. Then, the validation of the model will be done by obtaining experts' opinions.

45Investigating The Effect Of Personal Knowledge Management And Information Seeking Behavior On Self-Efficacy Of The Graduate Students Of Tabriz University

By

Introduction : At present, the Internet has created tremendous changes in information seeking and research activities in scientific communities; but among these, there are successful people who use the created opportunities to their advantage with the help of management tools and new technologies. Personal knowledge management is one of these tools. Considering that knowledge is a necessary and vital resource for success, the study of knowledge management process, especially in organizations, should be considered. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of personal knowledge management and information seeking behavior on students' self-efficacy. Methodology : The current research is applied in terms of purpose and in terms of methodology; it is correlation with the approach of presenting the structural equation model. The statistical population of this research was all graduate students of Tabriz University. Regarding the statistical sample, considering that the method of selective analysis for the hypotheses of this research is in the form of structural equations, they were 190 students, which seems suitable due to the ease of access and also the number (according to the rank of the university). Based on this, the sampling method in the current research was simple random sampling. The measurement tool in the present study was a questionnaire. In the current research, three questionnaires were used: Wilson's  information-seeking behavior standard questionnaire, with 6 items; 2. Mohiuddin et al.'s standard personal knowledge management questionnaire, with 7 items; and the standard self-efficacy questionnaire of Sherer et al. with 6 items. Findings : The results showed that there was no significant difference between the variables of gender and age and personal knowledge management among university graduate students. According to the path coefficient values, there is a significant relationship between personal knowledge management variables and information seeking behavior with self-efficacy. Also the models that are analyzed with a variance-based approach through variance-based software such as Smart PLS do not have a general index to look at the model at once. That is, there is no index to measure the entire model similar to the variance-based approach. However, in various researches in this field, it was suggested that an index called GOF, which was proposed by Tenenhaus, Esposito Vinzi, Chatenlin, Larue, can be used instead of the fit indices that exist in covariance-oriented approaches. This index considers both structural and measurement models simultaneously and tests their quality. This index is manually calculated as average R2 and average shared values. Conclusion : Regarding the obtained results, it can be said that by improving the behavior of educational and research information and getting familiar with the motivations, goals and correct methods of searching, it saves time and money of researchers. Researchers can obtain relevant and reliable information and use it to complete their educational and research activities in order to avoid repetitions or using the trial and error method. People who have good skills, abilities and knowledge, evaluate their judgment and evaluation in reaching the desired goal and position higher. Based on the approach of social learning, cognitive learning and thinkers such as Bandura, the evaluation of people and their self-efficacy in achieving desirable situations and desired goals is influenced by their knowledge, cognition, and the way they organize their knowledge; When people have sufficient knowledge and understanding of desired situations and goals and can organize their knowledge, they see themselves as more capable in achieving their goals; That means they experience higher self-efficacy. In this regard, knowledge management also means collecting, acquiring, understanding, categorizing and sharing knowledge. Therefore, it can be expected that personal knowledge management will improve people's self-efficacy; because it increases a person's knowledge and awareness of desirable situations and goals.
