Bill T. Jones is a renowned dancer and choreographer whose work looks at race, death, mortality, grief and sexuality. In the late '80s, he visited clinics full of terminally ill patients - some of whom were just weeks away from passing - and created compelling dance pieces based on their movements. While he was in Toronto to give a talk at the Art Gallery of Ontario about his work with the late Keith Haring, Bill sat down with Tom to reflect on his incredible life in dance, the power of movement to reflect and question the world we live in, and why he sees himself as "one who has survived.\"

Meeting the artist, Keith Haring, in a New York underground subway 4 in the morning one day was an interesting surprise!  I made a report on that meeting in a true story I call KEITH HARING and ME UNDERGROUND.  This happened at a time when I was recording my new songs at John Lennon's ( of The Beatles) private recording studio with the name, BUTTERFLY PRODUCTIONS.  The genius classical  music artist, Philip Glass (Einstein on the Beach), was hanging around at Lennon's studio at that time too.  I remember seeing him there.  I also recall bumping into Yoko Ono as well during those days.  She and her little boy, Julian, were exiting a cool pastry - coffee place called  SERENDIPITY. I held the door open for them as they passed by smiling.  As for my meeting Keith Haring, I guess you could say we didn't hit it off very well.  He was a sort of snob.  But I certainly had fun with the moment.  It's all in the little story I wrote of that meeting.  I truly hope, dear Reader, you will get a kick out of reading KEITH HARING & ME UNDERGROUND.  Thank you.   ---Robert
