This game is so crappy I saw no sense to basically go through the harder courses because it's the same mediocre thing two more times.

I glued them with strong glue.

We were walking to the final venue for the Tuned City Festival when we heard the wonderful sonorities of go-karting cascading down the street. Udo asked me to record the sound for him, so here is what I heard outside, looking across the tarmac and watching the drivers. ENJOY! Extreme Go-Kart Racing, developed by Agetec and published by Now Production in 2003. Also known as 'Kart Race Kimete wa Drift!', in the Japanese region released in the year 2000. "Compete against six go-kart racers from out of this world to determine who the best driver is. Grab turbo capsules to stay ahead of the pack, Avoid a myriad of obstacles set in place to thwart even the savviest of drivers, Power-slide around tight hairpin turns to set new record times. Seven different race courses-from the Paved Oval to the Frozen Arctic! Twelve go-kart drivers each with their own unique go-kart and racing style! Three modes of play including:- Grand Prix, Time Attack and Two-Player Versus! , Grab turbo capsules and overtake the competition!, Drift technique mastering is just a button press away!" A Karting games clearly inspired by the liked of Mario kat / Crash Team Racing and the likes but with all the good bits taken out and developed on a shoe string budget. Overall though, the presentation is not bad and it looks the part but just doesnt play right. Hopefully released at a budget friendly price as its quite a short game. Loading times are probably the games weakest point. Pickups are multicoloured Turbo containers with each colour giving a different amount of boost. There are no weapon pickups and running into an opponent is enough to stop them in their tracks. You can drift around corners but it is an odd mechanic that takes some getting used to as letting go at the wrong time can get you in trouble. Trackside collision detection can be really annoying as just being near it can be enough to stop you dead. There are no alternate or rear viewpoins There is only one Grand Prix and whist you can select a kart from multiple different racers, there are no character specific endings. Completing the Grand prix also unlocks all remaining kart racers. When you start the Grand Prix, An antagonist is selected and will be on you the entire time. The other racers you will pass one by one and not see again but the chosen one will be ready to zoom past you anytime you make a mistake, not always easy to catch up with and sure to win if you don't. The longplay takes is through the GP mode unlocking all the characters as we go before finally winning and rolling the credits. The game screen indicates the current standings in a race, the current speed of the player's kart (as both numbers and coloured bars) and incoming weapons. Like in the previous installments, players can pick up item boxes to receive a randomly selected item and use it to impede the opposition and gain the advantage. Some items, such as shells and bananas , allow the player to hit others to slow them down, while other items, such as the star power-up, render them temporarily invincible to attacks. This is the only game in the series in which instead of one character per kart, there are two: one to drive, and one to use items; and is also the first in the series where players drop their items when hit by a weapon. A fourth unlockable class, Mirror Mode, allows the player to race through a mirrored version of the tracks using the 150cc engine size. [4] Since all karts go faster when using higher engine sizes, the 4 classes serve as difficulty levels . There are 16 tracks, divided into 4 cups: Mushroom, Flower, Star and Special. A 5th cup has the player race in every track called the All-Cup Tour. The tour always starts with Luigi Circuit and ends with Rainbow Road, but the remaining tracks show up in random order. Every race is three laps long except for Baby Park and Wario Colosseum, which have 7 and 2, respectively. After all the human players cross the finish line, the positions of the computer-controlled teams are immediately locked in and they are given points based on those eight positions, ranging from 0 to 10. No matter which position they finished, everyone will move on to the next race because of these new rules. At the end of the cup, there will be an award ceremony for the 3 teams, where they will get a trophy ranging from bronze to gold. Time trial In the Time Trial single-player mode, the player has to finish any of the 16 courses in the fastest time possible, with the best time being saved as a ghost , a carbon copy of the player's performance that they can race against in later runs. Each character will receive a mushroom, which can be used at any time during the run. (1P only) Versus In this mode, players can choose any course and race against up to 3 (or 15 with LAN) human opponents with customized rules such as changing the item frequency or the number of laps in each race. (2P-16P only) Battle In battle mode, the player fights against up to 3 (or up to 15 with LAN) human-controlled opponents using items scattered throughout a battle arena. There is the traditional balloon -popping battle game, in which the player must use items to pop an opponent's three balloons while defending their own. Players can also steal items from one another by speeding towards them with a mushroom or star. In Co-op battles, the player in the back of the kart can perform a slide-attack on another driver, which can also steal balloons. Additionally, two new games have been implemented; the first is Shine Thief, a game where a team captures a Shine Sprite and maintaining possession of it for a certain amount of time, usually starting out with 55 to 60 seconds. Each time the Shine Sprite is lost, the counter will somewhat reset the time. For instance, if a player is able to keep possession of the Shine Sprite for only 30 seconds, the counter would reset to 40 instead of 60. The other mode involves throwing Bob-ombs at each other to collect points in Bob-omb Blast. With two players, 3 points are needed to win, but when playing with 3 or 4, 4 points are required to win. If two or more players throw a bomb at each other in unison, no points will be awarded to anybody. In a way, it's similar to a tie. In Diddy Kong Racing , players can choose one of ten characters, [3] who have access to three different vehicles: car, hovercraft and aeroplane. If the player defeats Wizpig in Future Fun Land, obtains all amulet pieces and collect all the gold medals, the player will be able to play in a mode called "Adventure 2". [4] The game also features four battle modes which consist of two deathmatch maps, a capture-the-flag -style battle and a mode which involves opponents capturing eggs. [6] Plot Timber the Tiger's parents go on holiday and leave their son in charge of the island they live on, prompting him and his friends to organise a race. Their enjoyment is interrupted when a sinister intergalactic pig- wizard named Wizpig arrives at Timber's Island and attempts to take it over after having conquered his own planet. He turns the island's four guardians (Tricky the Triceratops, Bluey the Walrus, Bubbler the Octopus and Smokey the Dragon) into his henchmen. The only solution available to the island's inhabitants is to defeat Wizpig in an elaborate series of races that involve cars, hovercraft, and aeroplanes. Drumstick the Rooster, the best racer on the island, fails this challenge and is transformed into a frog by Wizpig's magic. [9] Timber hires a team of eight racers: Diddy Kong , the first recruit; Conker the Squirrel and Banjo the Bear , recruited by Diddy; Krunch the Kremling, Diddy's enemy who follows after him; Tiptup the Turtle, T.T. the Stopwatch, Pipsy the Mouse, and Bumper the Badger, all inhabitants of Timber's island. Aided by Taj, an Indian elephant -like genie residing on the island, they eventually complete all of Wizpig's challenges and confront Wizpig himself to a race and defeat him. Another crappy, glorified app that tries to imitate Mario Kart and manages to land into the tulips. I managed to play through all four cups on easy then roll the credits. I saw no reason to torture myself to go through the same thing two more times on the harder modes since it's basically the same thing. I can't help but wonder if the frame rate's even worse on the Xbox One version!

This project started as a question from a friend about 3D printing and kind of snowballed into what you see here. The model is intended as a birthday cake decoration and is my attempt at replicating the recipients own kart from a photo. The project was a great learning experience (albeit a stressful one with the birthday deadline) getting proportion right, trying different assembly techniques and printing using different colours. It's effectively a commision so i can't share the model files (I haven't even printed one for myself) but I hope my experience might help inspire others to give design/modelling a go and maybe surprise themselves. I'm happy to answer questions on the techniques I used (I've tried to show this in the final sequence of screenshots).

Saturday December 6th 2008 was the day of the Southland Media Kart Racing Challenge.  **Yep I realise the date on the graphic was wrong :) A rep from The Rock FM, Classic Hits, Cue TV, The Southland Express, The Southland Times and myself from MORE FM all raced each other for the local title of 2008 Kart Champ.   Mark Whaley for Classic Hits took it out - see this video which includes footage of my practice runs leading up to the big race.  Was a well fought race I might add too!
