Con introduzione di Roberto Arduini dell'Associazione Italiana Studi Tolkieniani. Conferenza di Wu Ming 4, 20 maggio 2017, Sala Rossa del Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino. Partendo dal concetto di complementarità tra i generi, rintracciabile già all’origine della subcreazione tolkieniana, l’intervento di Wu Ming 4 ne cerca le tracce attraverso i personaggi maschili e femminili più noti e meno noti della narrativa del Professore. L’equilibrio di maschile e femminile è fondamentale per tutti i personaggi di Arda, a prescindere dal loro genere. Un’occasione per osservare da vicino il lavoro di Tolkien sulle figure femminili del canone letterario antico e medievale, punto di partenza che viene rideclinato e trasformato per ottenere personaggi dal carattere propriamente moderno e al tempo stesso universali. è stato fatto giustamente notare che Wu Ming 4 ha detto una cosa inesatta circa la triste sorte di Arwen, la cui morte per struggimento non avviene dopo un tempo lunghissimo bensì l’anno successivo alla morte di Aragorn (vedi finale del capitolo I dell’Appendice A del Signore degli Anelli). L’equivoco è stato dovuto a un’interpretazione errata del passaggio succitato e Wu Ming 4 non può che scusarsene.
