This fragment has three ornamental inserts--a roundel containing a complex interlace pattern and two narrow horizontal bands. Surviving fringe and selvage indicate that the fragment formed the end corner of a large piece that would have had other roundels in the field and stripes at the other end. The weft-loop pile provided added warmth to these domestic textiles.

Through a series of papers in the 1980's, Bouchet introduced isotropic systems and the Tutte-Martin polynomial of an isotropic system. Then, Arratia, Bollob\'as, and Sorkin developed the interlace polynomial of a graph in [ABS00] in response to a DNA sequencing application. The interlace polynomial has generated considerable recent attention, with new results including realizing the original interlace polynomial by a closed form generating function expression instead of by the original recursive definition (see Aigner and van der Holst [AvdH04], and Arratia, Bollob\'as, and Sorkin [ABS04b]). Now, Bouchet [Bou05] recognizes the vertex-nullity interlace polynomial of a graph as the Tutte-Martin polynomial of an associated isotropic system. This suggests that the machinery of isotropic systems may be well-suited to investigating properties of the interlace polynomial. Thus, we present here an alternative proof for the closed form presentation of the vertex-nullity interlace polynomial using the machinery of isotropic systems. This approach both illustrates the intimate connection between the vertex-nullity interlace polynomial and the Tutte-Martin polynomial of an isotropic system and also provides a concrete example of manipulating isotropic systems. We also provide a brief survey of related work.

R&D Report 1996-09 : A comparison of motion-compensated interlace-to-progressive conversion methods G.A.Thomas The conversion of interlaced video to progressive format may be carried out in a number of ways, including simple vertical interpolation, fixed or motion-compensated vertical-temporal interpolation, and approaches based on motion compensation using non-uniform sampling theory. Motion-compensated methods are the only ones which offer the possibility of maintaining high vertical resolution with minimal aliasing for the majority of vertical motion speeds. However, the accuracy and reliability of the vectors has a significant impact on the performance of such methods. For some applications, such as display conversion using vectors recovered from an MPEG-2 coded signal, the vector signal available will be less than perfect. This Report considers several motion-compensated interlace-to-progressive conversion methods, and assesses their performance with both accurate and inaccurate vectors. A way of making any motion-compensated method tolerant to gross vector errors is proposed and evaluated. Comparisons are made with nonmotion- compensated methods, and a recommendation is made of a method suitable to use with vectors recovered from an MPEG-2 bitstream.

We consider the multivariate interlace polynomial introduced by Courcelle (2008), which generalizes several interlace polynomials defined by Arratia, Bollobas, and Sorkin (2004) and by Aigner and van der Holst (2004). We present an algorithm to evaluate the multivariate interlace polynomial of a graph with n vertices given a tree decomposition of the graph of width k. The best previously known result (Courcelle 2008) employs a general logical framework and leads to an algorithm with running time f(k)*n, where f(k) is doubly exponential in k. Analyzing the GF(2)-rank of adjacency matrices in the context of tree decompositions, we give a faster and more direct algorithm. Our algorithm uses 2^{3k^2+O(k)}*n arithmetic operations and can be efficiently implemented in parallel.

These knots were believed to have apotropaic (from the Greek apotropaios, meaning “turning away evil”) powers. They guarded the entrances to rooms in homes and the sanctuary of churches. Examples of the Solomonic knot are found on a variety of domestic and personal goods, such as stoppers for sealing jars and on amulets.

Roundels, like this one, adorned many types of cloth--hangings, covers, tunics, and shrouds. Without further evidence, it is impossible to determine this roundel's original application or use, though it seems large for a tunic.

The interlace polynomials introduced by Arratia, Bollobas and Sorkin extend to invariants of graphs with vertex weights, and these weighted interlace polynomials have several novel properties. One novel property is a version of the fundamental three-term formula q(G)=q(G-a)+q(G^{ab}-b)+((x-1)^{2}-1)q(G^{ab}-a-b) that lacks the last term. It follows that interlace polynomial computations can be represented by binary trees rather than mixed binary-ternary trees. Binary computation trees provide a description of $q(G)$ that is analogous to the activities description of the Tutte polynomial. If $G$ is a tree or forest then these "algorithmic activities" are associated with a certain kind of independent set in $G$. Three other novel properties are weighted pendant-twin reductions, which involve removing certain kinds of vertices from a graph and adjusting the weights of the remaining vertices in such a way that the interlace polynomials are unchanged. These reductions allow for smaller computation trees as they eliminate some branches. If a graph can be completely analyzed using pendant-twin reductions then its interlace polynomial can be calculated in polynomial time. An intuitively pleasing property is that graphs which can be constructed through graph substitutions have vertex-weighted interlace polynomials which can be obtained through algebraic substitutions.

Some general properties of the wave functions of complex-valued potentials with real spectrum are studied. The main results are presented in a series of lemmas, corollaries and theorems that are satisfied by the zeros of the real and imaginary parts of the wave functions on the real line. In particular, it is shown that such zeros interlace so that the corresponding probability densities $\rho(x)$ are never null. We find that the profile of the imaginary part $V_I(x)$ of a given complex-valued potential determines the number and distribution of the maxima and minima of the related probability densities. Our conjecture is that $V_I(x)$ must be continuous in $\mathbb R$, and that its integral over all the real line must be equal to zero in order to get control on the distribution of the maxima and minima of $\rho(x)$. The applicability of these results is shown by solving the eigenvalue equation of different complex potentials, these last being either ${\cal PT}$-symmetric or not invariant under the ${\cal PT}$-transformation.

We consider the two-variable interlace polynomial introduced by Arratia, Bollobas and Sorkin (2004). We develop graph transformations which allow us to derive point-to-point reductions for the interlace polynomial. Exploiting these reductions we obtain new results concerning the computational complexity of evaluating the interlace polynomial at a fixed point. Regarding exact evaluation, we prove that the interlace polynomial is #P-hard to evaluate at every point of the plane, except on one line, where it is trivially polynomial time computable, and four lines, where the complexity is still open. This solves a problem posed by Arratia, Bollobas and Sorkin (2004). In particular, three specializations of the two-variable interlace polynomial, the vertex-nullity interlace polynomial, the vertex-rank interlace polynomial and the independent set polynomial, are almost everywhere #P-hard to evaluate, too. For the independent set polynomial, our reductions allow us to prove that it is even hard to approximate at any point except at 0.

Innovative textile-based artwork exploded across the Canadian Prairies in the second half of the twentieth century. Melding craft traditions with modern and modernist movements in art and theory, a diverse body of creators opened a beautiful new chapter in textile art. Prairie Interlace brings together some of the most important scholars of art and craft in Canada to examine the work of forty-eight artists working with textiles from the 1960s to 2000. Recapturing and recording lost histories, this book explores both artists working with textiles and centres of textile study and production, paying special attention to the contexts in which artworks were produced. Indigenous scholars, experts in textile techniques, and experts in Prairie textile history provide fascinating insight into an artistic movement which, until now, has been largely overlooked. Featuring over one hundred and fifty beautiful full-colour images of textile works, many of which have never before been photographed for print, Prairie Interlace provides an opportunity to discover a fascinating movement which has not received the attention it deserves and invites further investigation of this rich period in Canadian art history. Developed from the travelling exhibition of the same name, Prairie Interlace is a collaboration between Nickle Galleries, University of Calgary in Calgary, AB and the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina, SK.

An angular interlaced band forms a grid within the circle. Each square is filled with nested diamond patterns; a leaf with three dots fills each corner. The openwork and fringe suggest that this fragment may be from a shawl, a rectangular piece of fabric worn by men, women, and children. Complete examples in museum collections and the painted shrouds of mummies from the late Roman period show that interlace was a favorite decorative element for shawls.

You need to print 1x eew_mini2_bobbin_tube from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3262290 and either 2x of the loose (requires glue) or (snug) press fit disks per bobbin. NOTE: The "flat" end is an experimental disk that makes a bit more space on the bobbin at the orifice end. It comes out the same overall length as the usual bobbin To use it, print one flat and one of either version of the disk with the pulley for the brake band. It works ok on mine, but YMMV. Print one to try, and if it works for you, great, if not, don't worry about it. Like the original, each version of the bobbin disk has a tight and loose option. If you have a well calibrated printer the tight one should make a snap together bobbin. If that doesn't fit well then you can use the loose option and glue the pieces together. Print flat side down with a narrow brim and supports for the best finish and least post processing. I have cura set to use ironing on the top surfaces as well.

Jerusha Abbott was brought up at the John Grier Home, an old-fashioned orphanage. The children were wholly dependent on charity and had to wear other people's cast-off clothes. Jerusha's unusual first name was selected by the matron off a grave stone, while her surname was selected out of the phone book. At the age of 18, she has finished her education and is at loose ends, still working in the dormitories at the institution where she was brought up.<br /><br /> One day, after the asylum's trustees have made their monthly visit, Jerusha is informed by the asylum's dour matron that one of the trustees has offered to pay her way through college. He has spoken to her former teachers and thinks she has potential to become an excellent writer. He will pay her tuition and also give her a generous monthly allowance. Jerusha must write him a monthly letter, because he believes that letter-writing is important to the development of a writer. However, she will never know his identity; she must address the letters to Mr. John Smith, and he will never reply.<br /><br /> Jerusha catches a glimpse of the shadow of her benefactor from the back, and knows he is a tall long-legged man. Because of this, she jokingly calls him "Daddy Long-Legs." She attends a women's college, but the name and location are never identified; however, men from Princeton University are frequently mentioned as dates, so it is certainly on the East Coast. The college is almost certainly based on the author's alma mater, Vassar College, judging from college traditions mentioned. John Webster's <i>The White Devil</i> (1612) is a Jacobean revenge tragedy, replete with adultery, murder, ghosts, and violence. The Duke of Brachiano and Vittoria Corombona decide to kill their spouses, Isabella and Camillo, in order to be together, aided by the crafty and ambitious Flamineo, Vittoria's brother. Their actions prompt vows of revenge from Isabella's brother Francisco, the Duke of Florence, and Count Lodovico, who was secretly in love with her. The title refers to the early modern proverb that "the white devil is worse than the black," indicating the hypocrisy practiced by many of the characters in the play. Patty enjoys life on campus and uses her energies in playing pranks and for the entertainment of herself and her friends. An intelligent girl, she uses creative methods to study only as much as she feels necessary. Patty is, however, a believer in causes and a champion of the weak.
