Recent evidence has emerged that the Cepheid PL relation in the LMC is nonlinear in the sense that the existing data are more consistent with two lines of differing slope with a break at a period of 10 days. We review the statistical evidence for this, the implications for the extra-galactic distance scale and CMB independent estimations of Hubble's constant and briefly outline one possible physical mechanism which could cause this nonlinearity.

This letter reports the nucleon-nucleon($NN$) interaction obtained from multi-channel, including hidden color channels, coupling quark model calculation. The results show that the hidden color channels coupling provides the intermediate range attraction which is usually assumed to be due to multi-$\pi$ or $\sigma$ meson exchange and that the short and intermediate range $NN$ interaction can be described solely by the fundamental quark-gluon degree of freedom of QCD.

In the framework of constituent quark model, the effect of hidden color channels on the nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interaction is studied. By adjusting the color confinement strength between the hidden color channels and color singlet channels and/or between the hidden color channels and hidden color channels, the experimental data of $S$ to $I$ partial-wave phase shifts of $NN$ scattering can be fitted well. The results show that the hidden color channel coupling might be important in producing the intermediate-range attraction of $NN$ interaction. The deuteron properties and dibaryon candidates have also been studied with this model.

Previous studies have examined how target-similar backgrounds affect visual search performance (e.g., Gould & Carn, 1973; Neider & Zelinsky, 2006; Wolfe et al., 2002). They found that more complex or similar backgrounds to the target typically decrease search performance. There has been recent evidence that the information used to guide attention is dependent on which feature would be most effective due to context (Yu et al., 2022). More specifically, there is evidence that the distractor context affects which features are used to guide attention. However, there has been little evidence of how the background context would affect which guiding feature would be used. We have previously found that when searching for real-world objects that can be defined by many colors, observers will utilize the color that best matches the target object (Goetz & Neider, 2025). In other words, if there was a predominant or primary color that defined the object, observers would use that color to guide their search. The purpose of this study is to provide empirical evidence that the guiding feature selected will shift (e.g., use second predominant or secondary color instead of primary color) based on the background similarity to the target.

We investigate effects of the vector interaction appearing in chiral effective Lagrangians on the chiral and color superconducting (CSC) phase transitions using Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. It is shown that the repulsive density-density interaction coming from the vector term enhances competition between the chiral symmerty breaking and CSC phase transition: When the vector coupling is increased, the first order transition between the chiral symmerty breaking and CSC phase becomes weaker, and the coexisting phase in which both the chiral and color-gauge symmetries are dynamically broken comes to exisit in a wider region in the T-\mu plane. We find that the critical line of the first order transition can have two endpoints for an intermediate range of the vector coupling.

This study investigated the interaction of variations in color realism on pictorial recall memory in order to better understand the effects of variations in color realism, and to draw comparisons between visual recall memory and visual recognition memory in terms of color information processing. Stimulus materials used were three sets of slides, each containing identical images produced in four different visual formats: (1) realistic color photographs; (2) nonrealistic color photographs (created by photographically reversing the color of the original slides); (3) black and white photographs; and (4) line drawings. Subjects were 40 volunteers enrolled in graduate courses in education who were randomly assigned to one of the four treatment groups. A free recall procedure was used. Analyses of the data for the line drawing, black and white, and realistic color treatments suggest that color is superior to black and white visuals, which, in turn, are superior to line drawings. Nonrealistic color, however, was significantly lower than any of the other treatments, indicating that they were substantially more difficult to recall. Examination of the data for the first three treatments demonstrates that, as the variable of visual complexity increases, so does the degree of recall. However, although the nonrealistic color treatment was systematically as visually complex as the realistic color, the additional cues it provided interfered with the recall task by providing irrelevant information. While the results of this study lend credence to the "realism theory" orientation, they do not support the generalized theory of cue summation, which predicts that learning will be increased as the total number of cues increases. We study the interplay of the chiral and the color superconducting phase transitions in an extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with a multi-quark interaction that produces the nonlinear chiral-diquark coupling. We observe that this nonlinear coupling adds up coherently with the \omega^2 interaction to produce the chiral-color superconductivity coexistence phase or cancel each other depending on its sign. We discuss that large coexistence region in the phase diagram is consistent with the quark-diquark picture for the nucleon whereas its smallness is the prerequisite for the applicability of the Ginzburg-Landau approach.
