5Effects Of Simulated Heat Waves On Cardiovascular Functions In Senile Mice.

This article is from International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health , volume 11 . Abstract The mechanism of the effects of simulated heat waves on cardiovascular disease in senile mice was investigated. Heat waves were simulated in a TEM1880 meteorological environment simulation chamber, according to a heat wave that occurred in July 2001 in Nanjing, China. Eighteen senile mice were divided into control, heat wave, and heat wave BH4 groups, respectively. Mice in the heat wave and heat wave BH4 groups were exposed to simulated heat waves in the simulation chamber. The levels of ET-1, NO, HSP60, SOD, TNF, sICAM-1, and HIF-1α in each group of mice were measured after heat wave simulation. Results show that heat waves decreased SOD activity in the myocardial tissue of senile mice, increased NO, HSP60, TNF, sICAM-1, and HIF-1α levels, and slightly decreased ET-1 levels, BH4 can relieve the effects of heat waves on various biological indicators. After a comprehensive analysis of the experiments above, we draw the followings conclusions regarding the influence of heat waves on senile mice: excess HSP60 activated immune cells, and induced endothelial cells and macrophages to secrete large amounts of ICAM-1, TNF-α, and other inflammatory cytokines, it also activated the inflammation response in the body and damaged the coronary endothelial cell structure, which increased the permeability of blood vessel intima and decreased SOD activity in cardiac tissues. The oxidation of lipoproteins in the blood increased, and large amounts of cholesterol were generated. Cholesterol penetrated the intima and deposited on the blood vessel wall, forming atherosclerosis and leading to the occurrence of cardiovascular disease in senile mice. These results maybe are useful for studying the effects of heat waves on elderly humans, which we discussed in the discussion chapter.

In this research the attempt was to pay attention to the survey of increase data in the maximum temperature of Kermanshah. Farin make the temperature effect on natural and human ecosystems And directly associated with the human condition and comfort climate And their role in natural processes and human activities is undeniable The temperature in the precipitation of the most important climatic factors considered in determining the distribution of roles and other elements that affect climate. Thus the annual absolute maximums of date in the specific station during a 50- year period (1961-2010) have been used. The correlation method (logarithmic’ poly nominal) and Mann- Kendall statistical test have been used for testing the meaningfulness of fluctuation direction of series temperature and its diagram has been drawn by using the MATLAB software. The results show that the temperatures of two decades of 1970 and 1980 have been lower and three decades of 1990 and 2000 have been higher than the long- term average and the decade of 1980 has been the coldest of the decades. The general result of this research shows that there are seasonal fluctuations in maximum temperature of Kermanshah which are not meaningful. The model of halt winter has been recognized as the best model for predicating the temperature of maximum extreme of Kermanshah which the diagram in a Minitab was drawn and the results of this predication shows that there is an abnormal increase in the temperature of 2014 and 2019. the temperature of the elements which are directly related to climatic conditions and welfare of human life and its role in human activities and natural processes is undeniable . The precipitation temperature is considered the most important elements in determining the role of climate and climate affect the distribution of other elements (Alijani and Ghavidel Rahimi, 1384). The sharp changes in temperature adversely impacts to biological lifeforms. Among the adverse effects of temperature changes is (hot and cold wave) loss of organisms in the ecological conditions of low and high temperature range . Similarly the effects of this phenomenon on the climate construction of facilities and buildings is very high and the occurrence of such phenomena losses will be very large. Increase in energy consumption during the occurrence of this phenomenon is including their adverse effects. Nowadays, climate change science and its application to a large extent, is considerable importance And understand the causes and nature of these changes, the most important objectives is data collection weather and climate monitoring and climate phenomena (khorshiddost and colleague, 1388 and 1389). Increase in average global temperature profile and changes of climate change is The whole idea to consider climate change.the situation of Kermanshah is 34 degrees 21 minutes north latitude and 47 degrees 9 minutes east longitude minutes. I show for the specific case of the scalar field spectrum on regular tessellations of the sphere that the first two terms of the heat--kernel expansion are related to the first two terms of the Ehrhart (quasi)polynomial. In trying to make this relation precise, I consider degeneracies as partition denumerants and show the connection of the group theory expressions with Popoviciu's theorem and with the notion of Sylvester waves. General denumerants are considered and the first wave, i.e. the polynomial part, is written using the A-genus multiplicative sequence. It is pointed out that Sylvester in effect did the same thing and that he had also obtained Ehrhart reciprocity. I derive an algebraically neat form for the second wave which involves the combination of two multiplicative sequences.

Analytic solutions for cylindrical thermal waves in solid medium is given based on the nonlinear hyperbolic system of heat flux relaxation and energy conservation equations. The Fourier-Cattaneo phenomenological law is generalized where the relaxation time and heat propagation coefficient have a general power law temperature dependence. From such laws one cannot form a second order parabolic or telegraph-type equation. We consider the original non-linear hyperbolic system itself with the self-similar Ansatz for the temperature distribution and for the heat flux. As results continuous and shock-wave solutions are presented. For physical establishment numerous materials with various temperature dependent heat conduction coefficients are mentioned.

In this paper we report on the application of the atomic layer thermopile (ALTP) heat- flux sensor to the measurement of laminar-to-turbulent transition in a hypersonic flat plate boundary layer. The centerline of the flat-plate model was instrumented with a streamwise array of ALTP sensors and the flat-plate model was exposed to a Mach 6 freestream over a range of unit Reynolds numbers. Here, we observed an unstable band of frequencies that are associated with second-mode instability waves in the laminar boundary layer that forms on the flat-plate surface. The measured frequencies, group velocities, phase speeds, and wavelengths of these instability waves are in agreement with data previously reported in the literature. Heat flux time series, and the Morlet-wavelet transforms of them, revealed the wave-packet nature of the second-mode instability waves. In addition, a laser-based radiative heating system was developed to measure the frequency response functions (FRF) of the ALTP sensors used in the wind tunnel test. These measurements were used to assess the stability of the sensor FRFs over time and to correct spectral estimates for any attenuation caused by the finite sensor bandwidth.

21Statistical-Synoptic Analysis Of Heat Waves Above 40○C In The West Of Iran

Introduction Temperature effects on human activities and natural processes are undeniable. Temperature increase, in particular, in the form of heat waves affects all facets of life including architecture, welfare, transport, agriculture and industry. When the intensity and frequency of the waves are high, they can produce major problems. In recent years, the number and intensity of these heat waves has been increased in the world, so that it is one of the major causes of atmosphere related mortality in many countries. The aim of this study is to analyze the temperatures above 40°C and specify their synoptic patterns in the west of Iran using statistical-synoptic method. Study area Study area in this paper consists of five western provinces of Iran, including Kermanshah, Kurdistan, Hamedan, Lorestan and Ilam. From the climatic point of view, southern and western parts of the region including Khorramabad and Ilam stations are placed in the outer foothills climatic zone, and the other parts of this region are placed in the mountainous zone. Western low altitude strip has a warmer climate; But the other parts because of having different altitudes and latitudes, have colder climate. Materials and methods To achieve the statistical-synoptic analysis of heat waves, the daily maximum temperature data of six synoptic stations of the region within a 32-year period (1976-2007), and the relevant synoptic maps were used in this study. Different criteria have been proposed for selecting a numerical threshold for defining the superhot temperatures and the occurrence of heat waves. In the present study, reaching a maximum daily temperature of 40°C and higher has been the basis for defining the heat wave based on the region's temperature characteristics. Accordingly in each of these stations the dates in which the maximum temperature had reached 40°C and above during all those years were extracted. Then, based on the January 1st, each calendar date was converted to Julian date, and after that, the different characteristics of these superhot days like start date, duration and frequency were analyzed. Next, heat waves were derived based on two criteria: incidence of 40°C temperature and above at least in three stations, and three consecutive day occurrence of the above mentioned conditions. The beginning day of each wave was defined as the day when the temperature has reached 40°C or higher at the desired stations for the first time in compliance with the above conditions, and, the end day was defined as the day when the temperature reached the mentioned threshold for the last time. To calculate the mean temperature of a specific wave, maximum temperatures equal to 40°C and above at the all stations on all days of the occurrence of heat wave were used. To study the synoptic occurrence of heat waves, various data including geopotential height, sea level pressure, surface temperature, 1000-500 hPa thickness and meridional wind component at 200-hPa level were taken from NOAA's Website. In the next step, different maps comprising mean sea level pressure and anomaly, 500-hPa geopotential height, warm air advection and 1000-500 hPa thickness were drawn using GrADS software. Results and discussion The assessment of maximum temperatures in the region resulted in the extraction of 27 heat waves. The usual date for the start of heat waves and rising the temperatures to 40°C or higher in the west of country is July 23. The highest frequency of heat waves in 1977 with 4 waves, the longest wave in 1995, continuing for 28 days, and the most severe wave in 1998 with an average temperature of 42.4°C has occurred. The average length of waves in the region was 10 days, with the range of 3 to 28 days. In the mentioned period, Khorramabad and Kermanshah stations with respectively an annual average of 22.5 and 13.4 days had the highest amounts of 40°C temperatures and above, and in terms of duration and severity were among the hottest points of the region. Kermanshah station had the maximum number of superhot days after Khorramabad due to the high altitude and thin atmosphere. In contrast, duration and intensity of heat waves in Hamedan station was the least in the region. The results obtained from the synoptic analysis of heat waves in the west of Iran showed that during the heat wave occurrences, warm and dry air from deserts of Saudi Arabia and northern Iraq has been drawn to the western half of Iran through low pressure air masses located over these two countries, and consequently, this influence is more sensible in the western and southern stations like Khorramabad and Kermanshah than other stations, such as Hamedan, Sanandaj and Saghez. In most of the studied hot waves, Azores subtropical high pressure extends as a belt from North Africa to Iran. 1000-500 hPa thickness maps showed that a warm air core is extended from Iraq to Egypt with southwest-northeast direction, and covers western half of the country. All in all, two synoptic patterns, one related to the strongest waves and the other near-normal waves were extracted. In the first pattern (near-normal waves) Azores subtropical high pressure creates a secondary high pressure over Saudi Arabia, and the deep trough which has been created in the West Urals, weakens the Saudi Arabian High. Thus subtropical systems move to more southern latitudes and consequently have less impact on the western half of the Iran. In the second pattern (strongest waves), Azores subtropical high pressure advances and expands over northern latitudes, up to about 35°N. In this pattern Azores high pressure belt covers the area from North Africa to Iran, and this way the stronger heat waves affect western half of Iran. Warm air advection maps too verify this status. So that the warm air advection amounts at 200-hPa over the Middle East are positive, which indicates the greater thickness of atmosphere compared to the usual state. As expected, from synoptic point of view, the occurrence of heat waves in the region has been simultaneous with thermal low pressure formation at the ground level and subtropical high pressure at the upper levels. The number of superhot days in the stations has increased on average at the rate of 2.06 days in the study period, which can be indicative of warming trend in the region. This warming trend is consistent with results of studies in Greece (Maheras et al, 2006: 161), United States of America (Bumbaco et al, 2013: 1618), Europe (Twardosz and Kossowska, 2013: 627), and Iran (Esmailnejad, 2014: 39; Darand, 2014: 167). Comparing the results of this study with other studies in the future will reveal the similarities or differences of statistical characteristics and synoptic patterns of heat waves in different parts of the country.

30Investigating The Effect Of Heat Waves On The Intensification Of Thermal Islands In Sanandaj City From 1989 To 2018

Introduction: Heat waves (HWs) are one of the most important climatic disasters that have devastating environmental consequences in nature every year). The purpose of this study is investigation of the effect of heat waves on the intensification of thermal islands in Sanandaj city from 1989 to 2018. The constant rise in temperature of the city as an urban heat island and the sudden occurrence of HW's as one of the major climatic hazards, is an important concern of urban management policy makers ; because intensify heat of this city and cause a lot of environmental damage. Materials and Methods: In order to identify HWs in Sanandaj city, from 1989 to 2018, by using Fumiaki Index and MATLAB software, days whit temperature above +2 standard deviation or above the mean Normalized Thermal Deviation (NTD) that lasted at least two days, were identified as the day with HWs and calculated by equation 1. (1) Where, T (i, j, n) is temperature of day i th from month j th in year n th   indicates the average temperature of day i from month j . To eliminate the noise in the mean, a 9-day moving average filter was performed on these data three times and calculated by the following equation. (2) Where, ∆ T= (i, j, n) indicates absolute deviation of temperature from the average on day j th of the month i th , in year n th compared to the average temperature of the same day. In order to the values of temperature deviation of different times and places to be comparable at a certain time and place, it is necessary to standardize these absolute values of temperature deviation by means of temperature diffraction. Like day-to-day changes, diffuse T∆ at 31 days for each day is calculated by the following equation. (3) The value   is the average temperature deviation in 31 days that is calculated by the following equation. (4)   Finally, (NTD) is calculated by the following equation. (5) Where .Then in MATLAB software, days with temperatures +2 above average (NTD) and lasting at least two days, were selected as the day with the HW. (6) Then the thermal island was calculated in Sanandaj city using Equation 7. SUHI= MLST urban –FLST rural (7) Where, SUHI is the island surface heat index, MLST urban and FLST rural are the average surface temperature of urban and rural areas, respectively. Results and Discussion: The results showed that, during the study period (1989-2008), the highest frequency of HW hazards in this city was in September, February, March, and October 1991. The maximum duration of HWs was 6 days, which occurred in December 2017 and 2005, therefore long-term HWs have been experienced in this city. Results also showed, in both HW and NHW conditions, in the hot and cold months of the year, often a cold island is formed in the city center during the day and a heat island is formed at night. Results also showed that short-time heat waves have been effective in intensifying heat islands. Examination of the intensity of thermal islands in this city showed that during the day in both HW and NHW conditions, which in the HW conditions dominance of the cold island compared to normal day, it has been reduced and in the last months of winter (February), even during the day, a heat island has been created in the center of the city. At night time, in both HW and NHW conditions, a heat island was created in Sanandaj center, but the intensity of night- time heat islands in HW conditions is often significantly higher than normal conditions especially in the winter. Investigation of the condition of thermal islands in the warm months of the year showed that in both HWs, a cold island has been created in the city center that the intensity of cold islands during the HW conditions, especially in the summer months, was often higher than NHW conditions. At night time, there was often a heat island in the city center that was more intense than normal day. Also, in HW conditions, wind speed and especially relative humidity has decreased significantly more than the cold months of the year. Conclusion: According to the results the highest incidence of HW hazards occurred in the winter and early spring. Also, long-term (6-days) HW occurred in this period. The increasing trend, frequency and continuation of HW, especially in the cold months of the year, can be the effects of climate change and global warming. Severe and continuous HWs occurred in Sanandaj city, especially in late winter, can cause early germination and flowering of crops and gardens and it will negatively affect agriculture and horticulture and will lead to great economic losses. The effects of HWs on heat islands occurred in the suburbs due to having a clear sky without pollution, with minimal vegetation and lack of surface water resources and ground with low heat capacity is affected by HWs faster than the city center and as the land surface around the city becomes warmer than its center, a cold island is formed in the city center. At night, the suburbs due to low heat capacity, lose absorbed heat faster and as a result, the heat island is formed in the city center. Heat waves are thought to result from subseasonal atmospheric variability. Atmospheric phenomena driven by tropical convection, such as the Asian monsoon, have been considered potential sources of predictability on subseasonal timescales. Mid-latitude atmospheric dynamics have been considered too chaotic to allow significant prediction skill of lead times beyond the typical 10-day range of weather forecasts. Here we use a 12,000-year integration of an atmospheric general circulation model to identify a pattern of subseasonal atmospheric variability that can help improve forecast skill for heat waves in the United States. We find that heat waves tend to be preceded by 15-20 days by a pattern of anomalous atmospheric planetary waves with a wavenumber of 5. This circulation pattern can arise as a result of internal atmospheric dynamics and is not necessarily linked to tropical heating.We conclude that some mid-latitude circulation anomalies that increase the probability of heat waves are predictable beyond the typical weather forecast range.

This article is from International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health , volume 10 . Abstract Heat waves are a public health concern in Australia and unprecedented heat waves have been recorded in Adelaide over recent years. The aim of this study was to examine the perception and attitudes towards heat waves in the context of climate change among a group of residents in Adelaide, an Australian city with a temperate climate. A cross-sectional study was conducted in the summer of 2012 among a sample of 267 residents. The results of the survey found that television (89.9%), radio (71.2%), newspapers (45.3%) were the main sources from which respondents received information about heat waves. The majority of the respondents (73.0%) followed news about heat waves very or somewhat closely. About 26.6% of the respondents were extremely or very concerned about the effects of heat waves on them personally. The main issues that were of personal concern for respondents during a heat wave were their personal comfort (60.7%), their garden (48.7%), and sleeping well (47.6%). Overall, respondents were more concerned about the impacts of heat waves to the society than on themselves. There was a significant association between gender (χ² = 21.2, df = 3, p = 0.000), gross annual household income (p = 0.03) and concern for the societal effects of heat waves. Less than half (43.2%) of the respondents believed that heat waves will extremely or very likely increase in Adelaide according to climate projections. Nearly half (49.3%) believed that the effects of heat waves were already being felt in Adelaide. These findings may inform the reframing and communication strategies for heat waves in Adelaide in the context of climate change.

Heat waves merit careful study because they inflict severe economic and societal damage. We use an intuitive, informal working definition of a heat wave-a persistent event in the tail of the temperature distribution-to motivate an interpretable latent state extreme value model. A latent variable with dependence in time indicates membership in the heat wave state. The strength of the temporal dependence of the latent variable controls the frequency and persistence of heat waves. Within each heat wave, temperatures are modeled using extreme value distributions, with extremal dependence across time accomplished through an extreme value Markov model. One important virtue of interpretability is that model parameters directly translate into quantities of interest for risk management, so that questions like whether heat waves are becoming longer, more severe or more frequent are easily answered by querying an appropriate fitted model. We demonstrate the latent state model on two recent, calamitous, examples: the European heat wave of 2003 and the Russian heat wave of 2010.
