1H-hypersurfaces With At Most 3 Distinct Principal Curvatures In The Euclidean Spaces

By

In this paper, we study hypersurfaces of Euclidean spaces with arbitrary dimension. First, we obtain some results on $\mbox{H}$-hypersurfaces. Then, we give the complete classification of $\mbox{H}$-hypersurfaces with 3 distinct curvatures. We also give explicit examples.

2A Threshold Phenomenon For Embeddings Of $H^m_0$ Into Orlicz Spaces

By

We consider a sequence of positive smooth critical points of the Adams-Moser-Trudinger embedding of $H^m_0$ into Orlicz spaces. We study its concentration-compactness behavior and show that if the sequence is not precompact, then the liminf of the $H^m_0$-norms of the functions is greater than or equal to a positive geometric constant.

3Homology Exponents For H-spaces

By

We say that a space X admits a homology exponent if there exists an exponent for the torsion subgroup of the integral homology. Our main result states if an H-space of finite type admits a homology exponent, then either it is, up to 2-completion, a product of spaces of the form BZ/2^r, S^1, K(Z, 2), and K(Z,3), or it has infinitely many non-trivial homotopy groups and k-invariants. We then show with the same methods that simply connected $H$-spaces whose mod 2 cohomology is finitely generated as an algebra over the Steenrod algebra do not have homology exponents, except products of mod 2 finite H-spaces with copies of K(Z, 2) and K(Z,3).

4A New Class Of $({\cal H}^k,1)$-rectifiable Subsets Of Metric Spaces

By

The main motivation of this paper arises from the study of Carnot-Carath\'eodory spaces, where the class of 1-rectifiable sets does not contain smooth non-horizontal curves; therefore a new definition of rectifiable sets including non-horizontal curves is needed. This is why we introduce in any metric space a new class of curves, called continuously metric differentiable of degree $k$, which are H\"older but not Lipschitz continuous when $k>1$. Replacing Lipschitz curves by this kind of curves we define $({\cal H}^k,1)$-rectifiable sets and show a density result generalizing the corresponding one in Euclidean geometry. This theorem is a consequence of computations of Hausdorff measures along curves, for which we give an integral formula. In particular, we show that both spherical and usual Hausdorff measures along curves coincide with a class of dimensioned lengths and are related to an interpolation complexity, for which estimates have already been obtained in Carnot-Carath\'eodory spaces.

5Central Potentials On Spaces Of Constant Curvature: The Kepler Problem On The Two-dimensional Sphere $S^2$ And The Hyperbolic Plane $H^2$

By

The Kepler problem is a dynamical system that is well defined not only on the Euclidean plane but also on the sphere and on the Hyperbolic plane. First, the theory of central potentials on spaces of constant curvature is studied. All the mathematical expressions are presented using the curvature $\k$ as a parameter, in such a way that they reduce to the appropriate property for the system on the sphere $S^2$, or on the hyperbolic plane $H^2$, when particularized for $\k>0$, or $\k

6On Some Weighted H\"older Spaces As A Possible Functional Framework For The Thin Film Equation And Other Parabolic Equations With A Degeneration At The Boundary Of A Domain

By

The present paper is devoted to studying of some weighted H\"older spaces. These spaces are designed in the way to serve as a framework for studying different statements for the thin film equations in weighted classes of smooth functions in the multidimensional setting. These spaces can serve also for considering of other equations with the degeneration on the boundary of the domain of definition.

7Loop Near-rings And Unique Decompositions Of H-spaces

By

For every H-space $X$ the set of homotopy classes $[X,X]$ possesses a natural algebraic structure of a loop near-ring. Albeit one cannot say much about general loop near-rings, it turns out that those that arise from H-spaces are sufficiently close to rings to have a viable Krull--Schmidt type decomposition theory, which is then reflected into decomposition results of H-spaces. In the paper we develop the algebraic theory of local loop near-rings and derive an algebraic characterization of indecomposable and strongly indecomposable H-spaces. As a consequence, we obtain unique decomposition theorems for products of H-spaces. In particular, we are able to treat certain infinite products of H-spaces, thanks to a recent breakthrough in the Krull--Schmidt theory for infinite products. Finally, we show that indecomposable finite $p$-local H-spaces are automatically strongly indecomposable, which leads to an easy alternative proof of classical unique decomposition theorems of Wilkerson and Gray.

9Approximation Numbers Of Composition Operators On $H^p$ Spaces Of Dirichlet Series

By

By a theorem of Bayart, $\varphi$ generates a bounded composition operator on the Hardy space $\Hp$of Dirichlet series ($1\le p 1/2$ if $c_0=0$ and is either identically zero or maps the right half-plane into itself if $c_0$ is positive. It is shown that the $n$th approximation numbers of bounded composition operators on $\Hp$ are bounded below by a constant times $r^n$ for some $00$ when $c_0$ is positive. Both results are best possible. Estimates rely on a combination of soft tools from Banach space theory ($s$-numbers, type and cotype of Banach spaces, Weyl inequalities, and Schauder bases) and a certain interpolation method for $\Ht$, developed in an earlier paper, using estimates of solutions of the $\overline{\partial}$ equation. A transference principle from $H^p$ of the unit disc is discussed, leading to explicit examples of compact composition operators on $\Ho$ with approximation numbers decaying at a variety of sub-exponential rates. Finally, a new Littlewood--Paley formula is established, yielding a sufficient condition for a composition operator on $\Hp$ to be compact.

12Traces For Besov Spaces On Fractal H-sets And Dichotomy Results

By

We study the existence of traces of Besov spaces on fractal $h$-sets $\Gamma$ with the special focus laid on necessary assumptions implying this existence, or, in other words, present criteria for the non-existence of traces. In that sense our paper can be regarded as an extension of [Br4] and a continuation of the recent paper [Ca2]. Closely connected with the problem of existence of traces is the notion of dichotomy in function spaces: We can prove that -- depending on the function space and the set $\Gamma$ -- there occurs an alternative: either the trace on $\Gamma$ exists, or smooth functions compactly supported outside $\Gamma$ are dense in the space. This notion was introduced by Triebel in [Tr7] for the special case of $d$-sets.

13On Riesz Transforms Characterization Of H^1 Spaces Associated With Some Schrödinger Operators

By

Let Lf(x)=-\Delta f(x) + V(x)f(x), V\geq 0, V\in L^1_{loc}(R^d), be a non-negative self-adjoint Schr\"odinger operator on R^d. We say that an L^1-function f belongs to the Hardy space H^1_L if the maximal function M_L f(x)=\sup_{t>0} |e^{-tL} f(x)| belongs to L^1(R^d). We prove that under certain assumptions on V the space H^1_L is also characterized by the Riesz transforms R_j=\frac{\partial}{\partial x_j} L^{-1/2}, j=1,...,d, associated with L. As an example of such a potential V one can take any V\geq 0, V\in L^1_{loc}, in one dimension.

14On Weak$^*$-convergence In The Localized Hardy Spaces $H^1_\rho(\mathcal X)$ And Its Application

By

Let $(\mathcal X, d, \mu)$ be a complete RD-space. Let $\rho$ be an admissible function on $\mathcal X$, which means that $\rho$ is a positive function on $\mathcal X$ and there exist positive constants $C_0$ and $k_0$ such that, for any $x,y\in \mathcal X$, $$\rho(y)\leq C_0 [\rho(x)]^{1/(1+k_0)} [\rho(x)+d(x,y)]^{k_0/(1+k_0)}.$$ In this paper, we define a space $VMO_\rho(\mathcal X)$ and show that it is the predual of the localized Hardy space $H^1_\rho(\mathcal X)$ introduced by Yang and Zhou \cite{YZ}. Then we prove a version of the classical theorem of Jones and Journ\'e \cite{JJ} on weak$^*$-convergence in $H^1_\rho(\mathcal X)$. As an application, we give an atomic characterization of $H^1_\rho(\mathcal X)$.

A Riemannian metric on a manifold M induces a family of Riemannian metrics on the loop space LM depending on a Sobolev space parameter s. We compute the connection forms of these metrics and the higher symbols of their curvature forms, which take values in pseudodifferential operators. These calculations are used in a followup paper "The Geometry of Loop Spaces II: Characteristic Classes" to construct Chern-Simons classes on the tangent bundle TLM which detect nontrivial elements in the diffeomorphism group of certain Sasakian 5-manifolds associated to Kaehler surfaces.

21Functional Properties Of Generalized H\"ormander Spaces Of Distributions I : Duality Theory, Completions And Bornologifications

By

The space $D'_\Lambda$ of distributions having their $C^\infty$ wavefront set in a cone $\Lambda$ has become important in physics because of its role in the formulation of quantum field theory in curved spacetime. It is also a basic object in microlocal analysis, but not well studied from a functional analytic viewpoint. In order to compute its completion in the open cone case, we introduce generalized spaces $D'_{\gamma,\Lambda}$ where we also control the union of H^s-wave front sets in a second cone $\gamma$ contained in $\Lambda$. We can compute bornological and topological duals, completions and bornologifications of natural topologies for spaces in this class. All our topologies are nuclear, ultrabornological when bornological and we can describe when they are quasi-LB. We also give concrete microlocal representations of bounded and equicontinuous sets in those spaces and work with general support conditions including future compact or space compact support conditions on globally hyperbolic manifolds, as motivated by physics applications to be developed in a second paper.

In this paper we consider the $X_s$ spaces that lie between $H^1(R^n)$ and $L^1(R^n)$. We discuss the interpolation properties of these spaces, and the behavior of maximal functions and singular integrals acting on them.

23Interpolation Between H^p Spaces And Non-commutative Generalizations, I

By

We give an elementary proof that the $H^p$ spaces over the unit disc (or the upper half plane) are the interpolation spaces for the real method of interpolation between $H^1$ and $H^\infty$. This was originally proved by Peter Jones. The proof uses only the boundedness of the Hilbert transform and the classical factorisation of a function in $H^p$ as a product of two functions in $H^q$ and $H^r$ with $1/q+1/r=1/p$. This proof extends without any real extra difficulty to the non-commutative setting and to several Banach space valued extensions of $H^p$ spaces. In particular, this proof easily extends to the couple $H^{p_0}(\ell_{q_0}),H^{p_1}(\ell_{q_1})$, with $1\leq p_0, p_1, q_0, q_1 \leq \infty$. In that situation, we prove that the real interpolation spaces and the K-functional are induced ( up to equivalence of norms ) by the same objects for the couple $L_{p_0}(\ell_{q_0}), L_{p_1}(\ell_{q_1})$. In another direction, let us denote by $C_p$ the space of all compact operators $x$ on Hilbert space such that $tr(|x|^p)

25Cross-Intersecting Erd\H{o}s-Ko-Rado Sets In Finite Classical Polar Spaces

A cross-intersecting Erd\H{o}s-Ko-Rado set of generators of a finite classical polar space is a pair $(Y, Z)$ of sets of generators such that all $y \in Y$ and $z \in Z$ intersect in at least a point. We provide upper bounds on $|Y| \cdot |Z|$ and classify the cross-intersecting Erd\H{o}s-Ko-Rado sets of maximum size with respect to $|Y| \cdot |Z|$ for all polar spaces except Hermitian polar spaces in odd projective dimension.

26Extremal Problems In Bergman Spaces And An Extension Of Ryabykh's $H^p$ Regularity Theorem For $1

By

We study linear extremal problems in the Bergman space $A^p$ of the unit disc, where $1 < p < \infty$. Given a functional on the dual space of $A^p$ with representing kernel $k \in A^q$, where $1/p + 1/q = 1$, we show that if $q \le q_1 < \infty$ and $k \in H^{q_1}$, then $F \in H^{(p-1)q_1}$. This result was previously known only in the case where $p$ is an even integer. We also discuss related results.

28Elliptic Boundary-value Problems In The Sense Of Lawruk On Sobolev And H\"ormander Spaces

By

We investigate elliptic boundary-value problems with additional unknown functions in boundary conditions. These problems were introduced by Lawruk. We prove that the operator corresponding to such a problem is bounded and Fredholm on appropriate couples of the inner product isotropic H\"ormander spaces $H^{s,\varphi}$, which form the refined Sobolev scale. The order of differentiation for these spaces is given by the real number $s$ and positive function $\varphi$ that varies slowly at infinity in the sense of Karamata. We consider this problem for an arbitrary elliptic equation $Au=f$ on a bounded Euclidean domain $\Omega$ under the condition that $u\in H^{s,\varphi}(\Omega)$, $s

29Bohr's Absolute Convergence Problem For $\mathcal{H}_p$-Dirichlet Series In Banach Spaces

By

The Bohr-Bohnenblust-Hille Theorem states that the width of the strip in the complex plane on which an ordinary Dirichlet series $\sum_n a_n n^{-s}$ converges uniformly but not absolutely is less than or equal to 1/2, and this estimate is optimal. Equivalently, the supremum of the absolute convergence abscissas of all Dirichlet series in the Hardy space $\mathcal{H}_\infty$ equals 1/2. By a surprising fact of Bayart the same result holds true if $\mathcal{H}_\infty$ is replaced by any Hardy space $\mathcal{H}_p$, $1 \le p < \infty$, of Dirichlet series. For Dirichlet series with coefficients in a Banach space $X$ the maximal width of Bohr's strips depend on the geometry of $X$; Defant, Garc\'ia, Maestre and P\'erez-Garc\'ia proved that such maximal width equal $1- 1/\ct(X)$, where $\ct(X)$ denotes the maximal cotype of $X$. Equivalently, the supremum over the absolute convergence abscissas of all Dirichlet series in the vector-valued Hardy space $\mathcal{H}_\infty(X)$ equals $1- 1/\ct(X)$. In this article we show that this result remains true if $\mathcal{H}_\infty(X)$ is replaced by the larger class $\mathcal{H}_p(X)$, $1 \le p < \infty$.

34The Universal Minimal Space For Groups Of Homeomorphisms Of H-homogeneous Spaces

By

Let X be a h-homogeneous zero-dimensional compact Hausdorff space, i.e. X is a Stone dual of a homogeneous Boolean algebra. It is shown that the universal minimal space M(G) of the topological group G=Homeo(X), is the space of maximal chains on X introduced by Uspenskij. If X is metrizable then clearly X is homeomorphic to the Cantor set and the result was already known (Glasner-Weiss 2003). However many new examples arise for non-metrizable spaces. These include, among others, the generalized Cantor sets X={0,1}^{kappa} for non-countable cardinals kappa, and the corona or remainder of omega, X=beta(omega) \ omega, where beta(omega) denotes the Stone-Cech compactification of the natural numbers.

35Spaces H^1 And BMO On Ax+b-groups

Let S be the semidirect product of R^d and R^+ endowed with the Riemannian symmetric space metric and the right Haar measure: this is a Lie group of exponential growth. In this paper we define an Hardy space H^1 and a BMO space in this context. We prove that the functions in BMO satisfy the John-Nirenberg inequality and that BMO may be identified with the dual space of H^1. We then prove that singular integral operators which satisfy a suitable integral Hormander condition are bounded from H^1 to L^1 and from L^{\infty} to BMO. We also study the real interpolation between H^1, BMO and the L^p spaces.

38Discretization In Generalized Coorbit Spaces: Extensions, Annotations And Errata For "Continuous Frames, Function Spaces And The Discretization Problem" By M. Fornasier And H. Rauhut

By

During the process of writing the manuscript ["Continuous warped time-frequency representations - Coorbit spaces and discretization", N. Holighaus, C. Wiesmeyr and P. Balazs], the work ["Continuous Frames, Function Spaces and the Discretization Problem" by M. Fornasier and H. Rauhut - (1)] was one of the major foundations of our results and, naturally, we found ourselves going back to reading that contribution once and again. In particular in Section 5, which is concerned with the discretization problem, we have found some typographical errors, small inaccuracies and some parts that we just would have wished to be slightly more accessible. Finally, for our own theory, a generalization of a central definition required us to verify that all the derivations in Section 5 of (1) still hold after the necessary modifications. Considering the importance of the results in (1) for the community, this was reason enough to start this side project of re-writing that least accessible portion of Fornasier and Rauhut's manuscript, eliminating the errors we found, adding annotations where we consider them useful and modifying the results to take into account the generalization we require for our own work. What you see is the result of our endeavor, a one-to-one substitute for Section 5 in (1).

39Minimal Hyperspace Actions Of Homeomorphism Groups Of H-homogeneous Spaces

By

Let X be a h-homogeneous zero-dimensional compact Hausdorff space, i.e. X is a Stone dual of a homogeneous Boolean algebra. Using the dual Ramsey theorem and a detailed combinatorial analysis of what we call stable collections of subsets of a finite set, we obtain a complete list of the minimal sub-systems of the compact dynamical system (Exp(Exp(X)),Homeo(X)), where Exp(X) stands for the hyperspace comprising the closed subsets of X equipped with the Vietoris topology. The importance of this dynamical system stems from Uspenskij's characterization of the universal ambit of G = Homeo(X). The results apply to X = C the Cantor set, the generalized Cantor sets X = {0,1}^kappa for non-countable cardinals kappa, and to several other spaces. A particular interesting case is X = beta(omega) \ omega, where beta(omega) denotes the Stone-Cech compactification of the natural numbers. This space, called the corona or the remainder of omega, has been extensively studied in the fields of set theory and topology.

41For Hausdorff Spaces, $H$-closed = $D$-pseudocompact For All Ultrafilters $D$

By

We prove that, for an arbitrary topological space $X$, the following two conditions are equivalent: (a) Every open cover of $X$ has a finite subset with dense union (b) $X$ is $D$-pseudocompact, for every ultrafilter $D$. Locally, our result asserts that if $X$ is weakly initially $\lambda$-compact, and $2^ \mu \leq \lambda $, then $X$ is $D$-\brfrt pseudocompact, for every ultrafilter $D$ over any set of cardinality $ \leq \mu$. As a consequence, if $2^ \mu \leq \lambda $, then the product of any family of weakly initially $\lambda$-compact spaces is weakly initially $\mu$-compact.

42Embeddings Of Besov Spaces On Fractal H-sets

By

Let $\Gamma$ be a fractal $h$-set and ${\mathbb{B}}^{{\sigma}}_{p,q}(\Gamma)$ be a trace space of Besov type defined on $\Gamma$. While we dealt in [9] with growth envelopes of such spaces mainly and investigated the existence of traces in detail in [12], we now study continuous embeddings between different spaces of that type on $\Gamma$. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for such an embedding to hold, and can prove in some cases complete characterisations. It also includes the situation when the target space is of type $L_r(\Gamma)$ and, as a by-product, under mild assumptions on the $h$-set $\Gamma$ we obtain the exact conditions on $\sigma$, $p$ and $q$ for which the trace space ${\mathbb{B}}^{{\sigma}}_{p,q}(\Gamma)$ exists. We can also refine some embedding results for spaces of generalised smoothness on $\mathbb R^n$.

43Riesz Transforms Characterizations Of Hardy Spaces $H^1$ For The Rational Dunkl Setting And Multidimensional Bessel Operators

By

We characterize the Hardy space $H^1$ in the rational Dunkl setting associated with the reflection group $\mathbb Z_2^n$ by means of Riesz transforms. As a corollary we obtain a Riesz transform characterization of $H^1$ for product of Bessel operators in $(0,\infty)^n$.

44Non-separable H-homogeneous Absolute F_{σδ}-spaces And G_{δσ}-spaces

By

Denote by Q(k) a \sigma-discrete metric weight-homogeneous space of weight k. We give an internal description of the space Q(k)^\omega. We prove that the Baire space B(k) is densely homogeneous with respect to Q(k)^\omega if k > \omega. Properties of some non-separable h-homogeneous absolute F_{\sigma \delta}-sets and G_{\delta \sigma}-sets are investigated.

45H^1 And BMO For Certain Nondoubling Metric Measure Spaces

By

Suppose that (M,d,m) is an unbounded metric measure space, which possesses two geometric properties, called "isoperimetric property" and "approximate midpoint property", and that the measure m is locally doubling. The isoperimetric property implies that the volume of balls grows at least exponentially with the radius. Hence the measure m is not globally doubling. In this paper we define an atomic Hardy space H1(m), where atoms are supported only on "small balls", and a corresponding space BMO(m) of functions of bounded mean oscillation, where the control is only on the oscillation over small balls. We prove that BMO(m) is the dual of H1(m) and that an inequality of John-Nirenberg type on small balls holds for functions in BMO(m). Furthermore, we show that the Lp(m) spaces are intermediate spaces between H1(m) and BMO(m), and we develop a theory of singular integral operators acting on function spaces on M. Finally, we show that our theory is strong enough to give H1(m)-L1(m) and L1(m)-BMO(m) estimates for various interesting operators on Riemannian manifolds and symmetric spaces which are unbounded on L1(m) and on L\infty(m).

46Theory Of H_p-spaces For Continuous Filtrations In Von Neumann Algebras

By

We introduce Hardy spaces for martingales with respect to continuous filtration for von Neumann algebras. In particular we prove the analogues of the Burkholder/Gundy and Burkholder/Rosenthal inequalities in this setting. The usual arguments using stopping times in the commutative case are replaced by tools from noncommutative function theory and allow us to obtain the analogue of the Feffermann-Stein duality and prove a noncommutative Davis decomposition.

48Non-regularity In H\"older And Sobolev Spaces Of Solutions To The Semilinear Heat And Schr\"odinger Equations

By

In this paper we study the Cauchy problem for the semilinear heat and Schr\"odinger equations, with the nonlinear term $ f ( u ) = \lambda |u|^\alpha u$. We show that low regularity of $f$ (i.e., $\alpha >0$ but small) limits the regularity of any possible solution for a certain class of smooth initial data. We employ two different methods, which yield two different types of results. On the one hand, we consider the semilinear equation as a perturbation of the ODE $w_t= f(w)$. This yields in particular an optimal regularity result for the semilinear heat equation in H\"older spaces. In addition, this approach yields ill-posedness results for NLS in certain $H^s$ spaces, which depend on the smallness of $\alpha $ rather than the scaling properties of the equation. Our second method is to consider the semilinear equation as a perturbation of the linear equation via Duhamel's formula. This yields in particular that if $\alpha $ is sufficiently small and $N$ sufficiently large, then the nonlinear heat equation is ill-posed in $H^s ({\mathbb R}^N ) $ for all $s\ge 0$.

50Dirichlet Spaces On H-convex Sets In Wiener Space

By

We consider the $(1,2)$-Sobolev space $W^{1,2}(U)$ on subsets $U$ in an abstract Wiener space, which is regarded as a canonical Dirichlet space on $U$. We prove that $W^{1,2}(U)$ has smooth cylindrical functions as a dense subset if $U$ is $H$-convex and $H$-open. For the proof, the relations between $H$-notions and quasi-notions are also studied.
