The behavior of footings subjected to dynamic forces is the subject of continuing research. Significant contributions were made to available knowledge through a combination of theoretical and experimental research. Prior analytic studies were based on an engineering approach which extended standard soil mechanics approaches to include dynamic behavior. This approach is reviewed and comparisons re made with experimental results. To improve the theoretical results, the influence of soil compressibility was investigated. Specific technical results are presented on the following experimental studies: three-dimensional static and dynamic tests of footings with overpressure on the surrounding soil surface, two-dimensional static and dynamic tests on inclined footings with overpressure on one side (a situation simulating that encountered in footings for arches and/or domes), and three dimensional static and dynamic tests with improved instrumentation to verify earlier results and to provide improved data. Included is a presentation on the Dynamic Soil Facility.

We introduce a foundational sheaf theoretical scheme for the comprehension of quantum event structures, in terms of localization systems consisting of Boolean coordinatization coverings induced by measurement. The scheme is based on the existence of a categorical adjunction between presheaves of Boolean event algebras and Quantum event algebras. On the basis of this adjoint correspondence we prove the existence of an object of truth values in the category of quantum logics, characterized as subobject classifier. This classifying object plays the equivalent role that the two-valued Boolean truth values object plays in classical event structures. We construct the object of quantum truth values explicitly and argue that it constitutes the appropriate choice for the valuation of propositions describing the behavior of quantum systems.

The post earthquake study of the structures reveals that the interaction of soil and foundation plays a major role in the damage/response of structure. In this regard a literature survey has been done on Frame structures supported on various foundations like isolated footings, mat foundations, combined footings or pile foundations. Persual of literature reveals that very few investigations were done on frame structures supported on pile foundations. So in this paper, an attempt is made to implement the prominent investigations on soil structure interaction analysis of framed structures supported on pile foundations. It also covers the analytical methods to predict lateral deflections of pile foundations alone (single and Group piles).

This report includes a discussion of the present method of overturning analysis and a discussion of the underlying assumptions; the contact stresses under the base of the structures; and the effects of strain compatibility, compaction-induced lateral stresses, and wall friction on the driving and resisting moments. Recommendations are made for modifications to the present method of analysis, and areas for future studies where additional improvements could be made are discussed.

This report presents recommendations for modifications to the present Corps of Engineers' stability analysis for concrete gravity structures. These modifications are intended for use in conjunction with the current analysis procedures for a more accurate assessment of the factor of safety of existing structures. The report evaluates microgravity and other geophysical techniques, applied to the detection of density anomalies in structures and in their foundations. Microgravity measurement and processing techniques, as well as in-situ density evaluation (including the Cheops pyramid) are described. The report summarizes microgravity techniques. After a description of field techniques, the main interpretation techniques, both conventional and innovative, are described. The report describes the application of microgravity to the direct in-situ measurements of embankment densities and to the assessment of foundations of existing structures, and includes the description of the Cheops survey. The report describes the use of microgravity for grouting control and other repeat surveys.
