1Particle-Number Restoration Within The Energy Density Functional Formalism: Nonviability Of Terms Depending On Noninteger Powers Of The Density Matrices
By T. Duguet, M. Bender, K. Bennaceur, D. Lacroix and T. Lesinski
We discuss the origin of pathological behaviors that have been recently identified in particle-number-restoration calculations performed within the nuclear energy density functional framework. A regularization method that removes the problematic terms from the multi-reference energy density functional and which applies (i) to any symmetry restoration- and/or generator-coordinate-method-based configuration mixing calculation and (ii) to energy density functionals depending only on integer powers of the density matrices, was proposed in [D. Lacroix, T. Duguet, M. Bender, arXiv:0809.2041] and implemented for particle-number restoration calculations in [M. Bender, T. Duguet, D. Lacroix, arXiv:0809.2045]. In the present paper, we address the viability of non-integer powers of the density matrices in the nuclear energy density functional. Our discussion builds upon the analysis already carried out in [J. Dobaczewski \emph{et al.}, Phys. Rev. C \textbf{76}, 054315 (2007)]. First, we propose to reduce the pathological nature of terms depending on a non-integer power of the density matrices by regularizing the fraction that relates to the integer part of the exponent using the method proposed in [D. Lacroix, T. Duguet, M. Bender, arXiv:0809.2041]. Then, we discuss the spurious features brought about by the remaining fractional power. Finally, we conclude that non-integer powers of the density matrices are not viable and should be avoided in the first place when constructing nuclear energy density functionals that are eventually meant to be used in multi-reference calculations.

2Discrete Phase Space - I: Variational Formalism For Classical Relativistic Wave Fields
By A. Das
The classical relativistic wave equations are presented as partial difference equations in the arena of covariant discrete phase space. These equations are also expressed as difference-differential equations in discrete phase space and continuous time. The relativistic invariance and covariance of the equations in both versions are established. The partial difference and difference-differential equations are derived as the Euler-Lagrange equations from the variational principle. The difference and difference-differential conservation equations are derived. Finally, the total momentum, energy, and charge of the relativistic classical fields satisfying difference-differential equations are computed.

3"Commutator Formalism" For Pairs Correlated Through Schmidt Decomposition As Used In Quantum Information
By Monique Combescot
To easily calculate statistical properties of pairs correlated through Schmidt decomposition, as commonly used in Quantum Information, we propose a "commutator formalism" for these single-index pairs, somewhat simpler than the one we developed for double-index Wannier excitons. We use it here to get the pair number threshold for bosonic behavior of $N$ pairs through the requirement that their number operator mean value must stay close to $N$. While the main term of this mean value is controlled by the second moment of the Schmidt distribution, so that to increase this threshold, we must increase the Schmidt number, higher momenta appearing at higher orders lead to choosing a distribution as flat as possible.

4Gravity, Twistors And The MHV Formalism
By Lionel Mason and David Skinner
We give a self-contained derivation of the MHV amplitudes for gravity and use the associated twistor generating function to define a twistor action for the MHV diagram approach to gravity. Starting from a background field calculation on a spacetime with anti self-dual curvature, we obtain a simple spacetime formula for the scattering of a single, positive helicity linearized graviton into one of negative helicity. Re-expressing our integral in terms of twistor data allows us to consider a spacetime that is asymptotic to a superposition of plane waves. Expanding these out perturbatively yields the gravitational MHV amplitudes of Berends, Giele & Kuijf. We go on to take the twistor generating function off-shell at the perturbative level. Combining this with a twistor action for the anti self-dual background, we obtain a twistor action for the MHV diagram approach to perturbative gravity. We finish by extending these results to supergravity, in particular N=4 and N=8.

6ADM Analysis Of Gravity Models Within The Framework Of Bimetric Variational Formalism
By Alexey Golovnev, Mindaugas Karciauskas and Hannu J. Nyrhinen
Bimetric variational formalism was recently employed to construct novel bimetric gravity models. In these models an affine connection is generated by an additional tensor field which is independent of the physical metric. In this work we demonstrate how the ADM decomposition can be applied to study such models and provide some technical intermediate details. Using ADM decomposition we are able to prove that a linear model is unstable as has previously been indicated by perturbative analysis. Moreover, we show that it is also very difficult if not impossible to construct a non-linear model which is ghost-free within the framework of bimetric variational formalism. However, we demonstrate that viable models are possible along similar lines of thought. To this end, we consider a set up in which the affine connection is a variation of the Levi-Civita one. As a proof of principle we construct a gravity model with a massless scalar field obtained this way.

7Lagrangian-Hamiltonian Unified Formalism For Autonomous Higher-order Dynamical Systems
By Pedro D. Prieto-Martínez and Narciso Román-Roy
The Lagrangian-Hamiltonian unified formalism of R. Skinner and R. Rusk was originally stated for autonomous dynamical systems in classical mechanics. It has been generalized for non-autonomous first-order mechanical systems, as well as for first-order and higher-order field theories. However, a complete generalization to higher-order mechanical systems has yet to be described. In this work, after reviewing the natural geometrical setting and the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms for higher-order autonomous mechanical systems, we develop a complete generalization of the Lagrangian-Hamiltonian unified formalism for these kinds of systems, and we use it to analyze some physical models from this new point of view.

8Range Separated Functionals In The Density Functional Based Tight Binding Method: Formalism
By Thomas A. Niehaus and Fabio Della Sala
A generalization of the density-functional based tight-binding method (DFTB) for the use with range-separated exchange-correlation functionals is presented. It is based on the Generalized Kohn-Sham (GKS) formalism and employs the density matrix as basic variable in the expansion of the energy functional, in contrast to the traditional DFTB scheme. The GKS-TB equations are derived and appropriate integral approximations are discussed in detail. Implementation issues and numerical aspects of the new scheme are also covered.

9Why The Real Time Formalism Doesn't Factorise

We show that in the real time formalism, the generating functional for thermal Green functions does not factorise. However for most calculations, the normal real time Feynman rules can still be used to give correct results.

10Two-magnon Excitations In Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering Studied By Spin-density-wave Formalism
By Takuji Nomura
We study two-magnon excitations in resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the transition-metal $K$-edge. Instead of working with effective Heisenberg spin models, we work with a Hubbard-type model ($d$-$p$ model) for a typical insulating cuprate La$_2$CuO$_4$. For the antiferromagnetic ground state within the spin-density-wave (SDW) mean-field formalism, we calculate the dynamical correlation function within the random-phase approximation (RPA), and then obtain two-magnon excitation spectra by calculating the convolution of it. We propose a new microscopic mechanism of two-magnon RIXS, based on the Hund's rule coupling $J_{sd}$ between the $1s$ and $3d$ electrons at Cu sites. A pair of magnons is excited through second-order processes in $J_{sd}$. Calculated momentum dependence of RIXS spectra agrees well with experimental one. A notable difference from previous calculations based on the Heisenberg spin models is that RIXS spectra have a sizable two-magnon weight at the zone center, which may be hidden by or subtracted with the elastic line in experiments.

11Noncommutative Classical Dynamics On Velocity Phase Space And Souriau Formalism
By José F. Cariñena, Héctor Figueroa and Partha Guha
We consider Feynman-Dyson's proof of Maxwell's equations using the Jacobi identities on the velocity phase space. In this paper we generalize the Feynman-Dyson's scheme by incorporating the non-commutativity between various spatial coordinates along with the velocity coordinates. This allows us to study a generalized class of Hamiltonian systems. We explore various dynamical flows associated to the Souriau form associated to this generalized Feynman-Dyson's scheme. Moreover, using the Souriau form we show that these new classes of generalized systems are volume preserving mechanical systems.

15Reconciling Taxonomy And Phylogenetic Inference: Formalism And Algorithms For Describing Discord And Inferring Taxonomic Roots
By Frederick A. Matsen and Aaron Gallagher
Although taxonomy is often used informally to evaluate the results of phylogenetic inference and find the root of phylogenetic trees, algorithmic methods to do so are lacking. In this paper we formalize these procedures and develop algorithms to solve the relevant problems. In particular, we introduce a new algorithm that solves a "subcoloring" problem for expressing the difference between the taxonomy and phylogeny at a given rank. This algorithm improves upon the current best algorithm in terms of asymptotic complexity for the parameter regime of interest; we also describe a branch-and-bound algorithm that saves orders of magnitude in computation on real data sets. We also develop a formalism and an algorithm for rooting phylogenetic trees according to a taxonomy. All of these algorithms are implemented in freely-available software.

16One-loop Factorization For Inclusive Hadron Production In $pA$ Collisions In The Saturation Formalism
By Giovanni A. Chirilli, Bo-Wen Xiao and Feng Yuan
We demonstrate the QCD factorization for inclusive hadron production in $pA$ collisions in the saturation formalism at one-loop order, with explicit calculation of both real and virtual gluon radiation diagrams. The collinear divergences associated with the incoming parton distribution of the nucleon and the outgoing fragmentation function of the final state hadron, as well as the rapidity divergence with small-$x$ dipole gluon distribution of the nucleus are factorized into the splittings of the associated parton distribution and fragmentation functions and the energy evolution of the dipole gluon distribution function. The hard coefficient function is evaluated at one-loop order, and contains no divergence.

17The Endpoint Formalism For The Calculation Of Electromagnetic Radiation And Its Applications In Astroparticle Physics
By Tim Huege, Clancy W. James, Heino Falcke and Marianne Ludwig
We present the "endpoint" formalism for the calculation of electromagnetic radiation and illustrate its applications in astroparticle physics. We use the formalism to explain why the coherent radiation from the Askaryan effect is not in general Cherenkov radiation, as the emission directly results from the time-variation of the net charge in the particle shower. Secondly, we illustrate how the formalism has been applied in the air shower radio emission code REAS3 to unify the microscopic and macroscopic views of radio emission from extensive air showers. Indeed, the formalism is completely universal and particularly well-suited for implementation in Monte Carlo codes in the time- and frequency-domains. It easily reproduces well-known "classical mechanisms" such as synchrotron radiation, Vavilov-Cherenkov radiation and transition radiation in the adequate limits, but has the advantage that it continues to work in realistic, complex situations, where the "classical mechanisms" tend to no longer apply and adhering to them can result in misleading interpretations.

18The Black-hole Area Spectrum In The Tunneling Formalism With GUP
By C. A. S. Silva and R. R. Landim
The black hole area spectrum has been studied in the framework of tunneling mechanism, where a Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) has been considered. The results implies in a non evenly spaced spectrum for the black hole area which becomes increasingly spaced as the black hole evaporates.

19Relating Gribov-Zwanziger Theory And Yang-Mills Theory In Batalin-Vilkovisky Formalism
By Sudhaker Upadhyay and Bhabani Prasad Mandal
We consider the BRST invariant Gribov-Zwanziger theory with appropriate horizon term in Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism. The usual infinitesimal BRST transformation is generalized by considering the parameter finite and field dependent. We show that such finite field dependent BRST transformation with suitable choice of finite parameter relates the generating functional of Gribov-Zwanziger theory to that of the Yang-Mills theory.

20Spatially Covariant Theories Of A Transverse, Traceless Graviton, Part I: Formalism
By Justin Khoury, Godfrey E. J. Miller and Andrew J. Tolley
General relativity is a covariant theory of two transverse, traceless graviton degrees of freedom. According to a theorem of Hojman, Kuchar, and Teitelboim, modifications of general relativity must either introduce new degrees of freedom or violate the principle of general covariance. In this paper, we explore modifications of general relativity that retain the same number of gravitational degrees of freedom, and therefore explicitly break general covariance. Motivated by cosmology, the modifications of interest maintain spatial covariance. Demanding consistency of the theory forces the physical Hamiltonian density to obey an analogue of the renormalization group equation. In this context, the equation encodes the invariance of the theory under flow through the space of conformally equivalent spatial metrics. This paper is dedicated to setting up the formalism of our approach and applying it to a realistic class of theories. Forthcoming work will apply the formalism more generally.

21Multistep Shell Model Description Of Spin-aligned Neutron-proton Pair Coupling: The Formalism
By Zhen-Xiang Xu, Chong Qi, Roberto J. Liotta and Ramon Wyss
The multistep shell model was extended recently to incorporate both neutron and proton degrees of freedom and applied to study the structure of $N=Z$ systems with four, six and eight particles [arXiv:1108.0269]. In this work we give a brief introduction to the formalism thus developed. A more detailed explanation with applications will be updated later.

22Puncture Black Hole Initial Data In The Conformal Thin-sandwich Formalism
By Thomas W. Baumgarte
We revisit the construction of puncture black hole initial data in the conformal thin-sandwich decomposition of Einstein's constraint equations. It has been shown previously that this approach cannot yield quasiequilibrium wormhole data, which connect two asymptotically flat spatial infinities. This argument does not apply to trumpet data, which connect the spatial infinity in one universe with the future timelike infinity of another. As a numerical demonstration we present results for a single boosted trumpet-puncture black holes, constructed in the original version of the conformal thin-sandwich formalism.

23Efficient Formalism For Large Scale Ab Initio Molecular Dynamics Based On Time-dependent Density Functional Theory
By J. L. Alonso, Xavier Andrade, Pablo Echenique, Fernando Falceto, Diego Prada-Gracia and Angel Rubio
A new "on the fly" method to perform Born-Oppenheimer ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) is presented. Inspired by Ehrenfest dynamics in time-dependent density functional theory, the electronic orbitals are evolved by a Schroedinger-like equation, where the orbital time derivative is multiplied by a parameter. This parameter controls the time scale of the fictitious electronic motion and speeds up the calculations with respect to standard Ehrenfest dynamics. In contrast to other methods, wave function orthogonality needs not be imposed as it is automatically preserved, which is of paramount relevance for large scale AIMD simulations.

24Integrated Lax Formalism For PCM
By Nejat Tevfik Yilmaz
By solving the first-order algebraic field equations which arise in the dual formulation of the D=2 principal chiral model (PCM) we construct an integrated Lax formalism built explicitly on the dual fields of the model rather than the currents. The Lagrangian of the dual scalar field theory is also constructed. Furthermore we present the first-order PDE system for an exponential parametrization of the solutions and discuss the Frobenious integrability of this system.

25Formalism Locality In Quantum Theory And Quantum Gravity
By Lucien Hardy
We expect a theory of Quantum Gravity to be both probabilistic and have indefinite causal structure. Indefinite causal structure poses particular problems for theory formulation since many of the core ideas used in the usual approaches to theory construction depend on having definite causal structure. For example, the notion of a state across space evolving in time requires that we have some definite causal structure so we can define a state on a space-like hypersurface. We will see that many of these problems are mitigated if we are able to formulate the theory in a "formalism local" (or F-local) fashion. A formulation of a physical theory is said to be F-local if, in making predictions for any given arbitrary space-time region, we need only refer to mathematical objects pertaining to that region. This is a desirable property both on the grounds of efficiency and since, if we have indefinite causal structure, it is not clear how to select some other space-time region on which our calculations may depend. The usual ways of formulating physical theories (the time evolving state picture, the histories approach, and the local equations approach) are not F-local. We set up a framework for probabilistic theories with indefinite causal structure. This, the causaloid framework, is F-local. We describe how Quantum Theory can be formulated in the causaloid framework (in an F-local fashion). This provides yet another formulation of Quantum Theory. This formulation, however, may be particularly relevant to the problem of finding a theory of Quantum Gravity.

26Coleman Integration Using The Tannakian Formalism
By Amnon Besser
We use a new idea to construct a theory of iterated Coleman functions in higher dimensions than 1. A Coleman function in this theory consists of a unipotent differential equation, a section on the underlying bundle and a solution to the equation on a residue disc. The new idea is to use the theory of Tannakian categories and the action of Frobenius to anlytically continue solutions of the differential equation to all residue discs.

27Open Systems' Density Matrix Properties In A Time Coarsened Formalism
By Robert Englman and Asher Yahalom
The concept of time-coarsened density matrix for open systems has frequently featured in equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, without being probed as to the detailed consequences of the time averaging procedure. In this work we introduce and prove the need for a selective and non-uniform time-sampling, whose form depends on the properties (whether thermalized or not) of the bath. It is also applicable when an open microscopic sub-system is coupled to another {\it finite} system. By use of a time-periodic minimal coupling model between these two systems, we present detailed quantitative consequences of time coarsening, which include initial state independence of equilibration, deviations from long term averages, their environment size dependence and the approach to classicality, as measured by a Leggett-Garg type inequality. An interacting multiple qubit model affords comparison between the time integrating procedure and the more conventional environment tracing method.

28Formalism For Inclusion Of Measured Reaction Cross Sections In Stellar Rates Including Uncertainties And Its Application To Neutron Capture In The S-process
By T. Rauscher
A general formalism to include experimental reaction cross sections into calculations of stellar rates is presented. It also allows to assess the maximally possible reduction of uncertainties in the stellar rates by experiments. As an example for the application of the procedure, stellar neutron capture reactivities from KADoNiS v0.3 are revised and the remaining uncertainties shown. Many of the uncertainties in the stellar rates are larger than those obtained experimentally. This has important consequences for s-process models and the interpretation of meteoritic data because it allows the rates of some reactions to vary within a larger range than previously assumed.

29Variant N= 1 Supersymmetric Non-Abelian Proca-Stueckelberg Formalism In Four Dimensions
By Hitoshi Nishino and Subhash Rajpoot
We present a new (variant) formulation of N=1 supersymmetric compensator mechanism for an arbitrary non-Abelian group in four dimensions. We call this `variant supersymmetric non-Abelian Proca-Stueckelberg formalism'. Our field content is economical, consisting only of the two multiplets: (i) A Non-Abelian vector multiplet (A_\mu{}^I, \lambda^I, C_{\mu\nu\rho}{}^I) and (ii) A compensator tensor multiplet (B_{\mu\nu}{}^I, \chi^I, \varphi^I). The index I is for the adjoint representation of a non-Abelian gauge group. The C_{\mu\nu\rho}{}^I is originally an auxiliary field Hodge-dual to the conventional auxiliary field D^I. The \varphi^I and B_{\mu\nu}{}^I are compensator fields absorbed respectively into the longitudinal components of A_\mu{}^I and C_{\mu\nu\rho}{}^I which become massive. After the absorption, C_{\mu\nu\rho}{}^I becomes no longer auxiliary, but starts propagating as a massive scalar field. We fix all non-trivial cubic interactions in the total lagrangian, and quadratic interactions in all field equations. The superpartner fermion \chi^I acquires a Dirac mass shared with the gaugino \lambda^I. As an independent confirmation, we give the superspace re-formulation of the component results.

30Weighed Scalar Averaging In LTB Dust Models, Part II: A Formalism Of Exact Perturbations
By Roberto A. Sussman
We examine the exact perturbations that arise from the q-average formalism that was applied in the preceding article (part I) to Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) models. By introducing an initial value parametrization, we show that all LTB scalars that take a FLRW "look alike" form (frequently used in the literature dealing with LTB models) follow as q-averages of covariant scalars that are common to FLRW models. These q--scalars determine for every averaging domain a unique FLRW background state through Darmois matching conditions at the domain boundary, though the definition of this background does not require an actual matching with a FLRW region (Swiss cheese type models). Local perturbations describe the deviation from the FLRW background state through the local gradients of covariant scalars at the boundary of every comoving domain, while non-local perturbations do so in terms of the intuitive notion of a "contrast" of local scalars with respect to FLRW reference values that emerge from q-averages assigned to the whole domain or the whole time slice in the asymptotic limit. We derive fluid flow evolution equations that completely determine the dynamics of the models in terms of the q-scalars and both types of perturbations. A rigorous formalism of exact spherical non-linear perturbations is defined over the FLRW background state associated to the q-scalars, recovering the standard results of linear perturbation theory in the appropriate limit. We examine the notion of the amplitude and illustrate the differences between local vs non-local perturbations by qualitative diagrams and through an example of a cosmic density void that follows from the numeric solution of the evolution equations.

31A Covering Probability Amplitude Formalism For Classical And Quantum Mechanics, And Possible New Modes Of Non-classical Behaviour
By Ram K. Varma
A generalized dynamics is postulated in a product space ${\cal R}^{3}\times {\cal S}^{1}$ with ${\cal R}^3$ representing the configuration space of a one particle system to which is attached the U(1) fibre bundle represented by the manifold ${\cal S}^{1}$. The manifold ${\cal S}^{1}$ is chosen to correspond to the action phase, with the action being the principal function corresponding to the associated classical dynamical system. A Hilbert space representation of the flow equation representing the dynamics in the above product space is then obtained, which is found to yield a probability amplitude formalism in terms of a generalized set of equations of the Schr\"odinger form which constitutes a covering formalism for both quantum and classical mechanics. Being labelled by an integral index $n$, the equation corresponding to $n=1$ is identified with the Schr\"odinger equation, while equations corresponding to $n\rightarrow large$ yield the classical dynamics through the WKB limit. Equations with lower indices n=2,3,4,... predict the existence of new modes of non-classical behaviour, the observational implications of which are discussed. Some preliminary experimental results are presented which point to the existence of these modes of non-classical behaviour.

32Supersymmetric Isospectral Formalism For The Calculation Of Near-zero Energy States: Application To The Very Weakly Bound ${^4}$He Trimer Excited State
By Sudip Kumar Haldar, Barnali Chakrabarti and Tapan Kumar Das
We propose a novel mathematical approach for the calculation of near-zero energy states by solving potentials which are isospectral with the original one. For any potential, families of strictly isospectral potentials (with very different shape) having desirable and adjustable features are generated by supersymmetric isospectral formalism. The near-zero energy Efimov state in the original potential is effectively trapped in the deep well of the isospectral family and facilitates more accurate calculation of the Efimov state. Application to the first excited state in 4He trimer is presented.

33Second Class Constraints In A Higher-Order Lagrangian Formalism
By I. A. Batalin, K. Bering and P. H. Damgaard
We consider the description of second-class constraints in a Lagrangian path integral associated with a higher-order $\Delta$-operator. Based on two conjugate higher-order $\Delta$-operators, we also propose a Lagrangian path integral with $Sp(2)$ symmetry, and describe the corresponding system in the presence of second-class constraints.

34Tannakian Formalism For Fiber Functors Over Tensor Categories
By Mostafa Einollahzadeh and Amir Jafari
In this paper we generalize Tannakian formalism to fiber functors over general tensor categories. We will show that (under some technical conditions) if the fiber functor has a section, then the source category is equivalent to the category of comodules over a Hopf algebra in the target category. We will also give a description of this Hopf algebra using the notion of framed objects.

35Calculation Of Ionization Within The Close-coupling Formalism
By Andris T. Stelbovics
An adaptation of the convergent close-coupling method (CCC) to calculation of differential ionization cross sections is analyzed in the context of the Temkin-Poet model. The asymptotic scattering wave functions and the unitarity relation are given for the model. It is concluded the use of "distinguishable" electrons as proposed in the CCC model is not essential in the close-coupling formulation of ionization.

36A Limitation Of The Bruggeman Formalism For Homogenization
By T. G. Mackay and A. Lakhtakia
The Bruggeman formalism provides an estimate of the effective permittivity of a particulate composite medium comprising two component mediums. The Bruggeman estimate is required to lie within the Wiener bounds and the Hashin-Shtrikman bounds. Considering the homogenization of weakly dissipative component mediums characterized by relative permittivities with real parts of opposite signs, we show that the Bruggeman estimate may not be not physically reasonable when the component mediums are weakly dissipative; furthermore, both the Wiener bounds and the Hashin-Shtrikman bounds exhibit strong resonances.

37Superstring Partition Functions In The Doubled Formalism
By Sudipto Paul Chowdhury
Computation of superstring partition function for the non-linear sigma model on the product of a two-torus and its dual within the scope of the doubled formalism is presented. We verify that it reproduces the partition functions of the toroidally compactified type--IIA and type--IIB theories for appropriate choices of the GSO projection.

38The Ρρinteraction In The Hidden Gauge Formalism And The F_0(1370) And F_2(1270) Resonances
By R. Molina, D. Nicmorus and E. Oset
We have studied the interaction of vectors mesons within the hidden gauge formalism and applied it to the particular case of the $\rho \rho$ interaction. We find a strong attraction in the isospin, spin channels I,S=0,0 and 0,2, which is enough to bind the $\rho \rho$ system. We also find that the attraction in the I,S=0,2 channel is much stronger than in the 0,0 case. The states develop a width when the $\rho$ mass distribution is considered, and particularly when the $\pi \pi$ decay channel is turned on. Using a regularization scheme with cut offs of natural size, we obtain results in fair agreement with the mass and the width of the $f_0(1370)$ and $f_2(1270)$ meson states, providing a natural explanation of why the tensor state is more bound than the scalar and offering a new picture for these states, which would be dynamically generated from the $\rho \rho$ interaction or, in simpler words, $\rho \rho$ molecular states.

39New Formalism For Numerical Relativity
By Carles Bona, Joan Masso, Edward Seidel and Joan Stela
We present a new formulation of the Einstein equations that casts them in an explicitly first order, flux-conservative, hyperbolic form. We show that this now can be done for a wide class of time slicing conditions, including maximal slicing, making it potentially very useful for numerical relativity. This development permits the application to the Einstein equations of advanced numerical methods developed to solve the fluid dynamic equations, {\em without} overly restricting the time slicing, for the first time. The full set of characteristic fields and speeds is explicitly given.

40Quantum Diffusion Of H/Ni(111) Through The Monte Carlo Wave Function Formalism
By S. C. Badescu, S. C. Ying and T. Ala-Nissila
We consider a quantum system coupled to a dissipative background with many degrees of freedom using the Monte Carlo Wave Function method. Instead of dealing with a density matrix which can be very high-dimensional, the method consists of integrating a stochastic Schrodinger equation with a non-hermitian damping term in the evolution operator, and with random quantum jumps. The method is applied to the diffusion of hydrogen on the Ni(111) surface below 100 K. We show that the recent experimental diffusion data for this system can be understood through an interband activation process, followed by quantum tunnelling.

41Statistics And Nosé Formalism For Ehrenfest Dynamics
By J. L. Alonso, A. Castro, J. Clemente-Gallardo, J. C. Cuchí, P. Echenique and F. Falceto
Quantum dynamics (i.e., the Schr\"odinger equation) and classical dynamics (i.e., Hamilton equations) can both be formulated in equal geometric terms: a Poisson bracket defined on a manifold. In this paper we first show that the hybrid quantum-classical dynamics prescribed by the Ehrenfest equations can also be formulated within this general framework, what has been used in the literature to construct propagation schemes for Ehrenfest dynamics. Then, the existence of a well defined Poisson bracket allows to arrive to a Liouville equation for a statistical ensemble of Ehrenfest systems. The study of a generic toy model shows that the evolution produced by Ehrenfest dynamics is ergodic and therefore the only constants of motion are functions of the Hamiltonian. The emergence of the canonical ensemble characterized by the Boltzmann distribution follows after an appropriate application of the principle of equal a priori probabilities to this case. Once we know the canonical distribution of a Ehrenfest system, it is straightforward to extend the formalism of Nos\'e (invented to do constant temperature Molecular Dynamics by a non-stochastic method) to our Ehrenfest formalism. This work also provides the basis for extending stochastic methods to Ehrenfest dynamics.

43Solution Of The Eta-4He Problem With Quasi-particle Formalism
By A. Fix and O. Kolesnikov
The Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas equations for the five-body eta-4N problem are solved for the case of the driving eta N and NN potentials limited to s-waves. The quasi-particle (Schmidt) method is employed to convert the equations into the effective two-body form. Numerical results are presented for the eta-4He scattering length.

44A Relativistic Formalism For Computation Of Irrotational Binary Stars In Quasi Equilibrium States
By Masaru Shibata
We present relativistic hydrostatic equations for obtaining irrotational binary neutron stars in quasi equilibrium states in 3+1 formalism. Equations derived here are different from those previously given by Bonazzola, Gourgoulhon, and Marck, and have a simpler and more tractable form for computation in numerical relativity. We also present hydrostatic equations for computation of equilibrium irrotational binary stars in first post-Newtonian order.

45Measurement-feedback Formalism Meets Information Reservoirs
By Naoto Shiraishi, Takumi Matsumoto and Takahiro Sagawa
There have been two distinct formalisms of thermodynamics of information: One is the measurement-feedback formalism, which concerns bipartite systems with measurement and feedback processes, and the other is the information reservoir formalism, which considers bit sequences as a thermodynamic fuel. In this paper, we derive a second-law-like inequality by applying the measurement-feedback formalism to information reservoirs, which provides a stronger bound of extractable work than any other known inequality in the same setup. In addition, we demonstrate that the Mandal-Jarzynski model, which is a prominent model of the information reservoir formalism, is equivalent to a model obtained by the contraction of a bipartite system with autonomous measurement and feedback. Our results provide a unified view on the measurement-feedback and the information-reservoir formalisms.

46Boundary Term In Metric F(R) Gravity: Field Equations In The Metric Formalism
By Alejandro Guarnizo, Leonardo Castaneda and Juan M. Tejeiro
The main goal of this paper is to get in a straightforward form the field equations in metric f(R) gravity, using elementary variational principles and adding a boundary term in the action, instead of the usual treatment in an equivalent scalar-tensor approach. We start with a brief review of the Einstein-Hilbert action, together with the Gibbons-York-Hawking boundary term, which is mentioned in some literature, but is generally missing. Next we present in detail the field equations in metric f(R) gravity, including the discussion about boundaries, and we compare with the Gibbons-York-Hawking term in General Relativity. We notice that this boundary term is necessary in order to have a well defined extremal action principle under metric variation.

48Monopole And Dipole Layers In Curved Spacetimes: Formalism And Examples
By Norman Gürlebeck, Jiří Bičák and Antonio C. Gutiérrez-Piñeres
The discontinuities of electromagnetic test fields generated by general layers of electric and magnetic monopoles and dipoles are investigated in general curved spacetimes. The equivalence of electric currents and magnetic dipoles is discussed. The results are used to describe exact "Schwarzschild disk" solutions endowed with such sources. The resulting distributions of charge and dipole densities on the disks are corroborated using the membrane paradigm.

50Hamiltonian Dynamics In Extended Phase Space For Gravity And Its Consistency With Lagrangian Formalism: A Generalized Spherically Symmetric Model As An Example
By T. P. Shestakova
Among theoretical issues in General Relativity the problem of constructing its Hamiltonian formulation is still of interest. The most of attempts to quantize Gravity are based upon Dirac generalization of Hamiltonian dynamics for system with constraints. At the same time there exists another way to formulate Hamiltonian dynamics for constrained systems guided by the idea of extended phase space. We have already considered some features of this approach in the previous MG12 Meeting by the example of a simple isotropic model. Now we apply the approach to a generalized spherically symmetric model which imitates the structure of General Relativity much better. In particular, making use of a global BRST symmetry and the Noether theorem, we construct the BRST charge that generates correct gauge transformations for all gravitational degrees of freedom.
