Great Lent is the great search for the "normal life" found only in Christ.  What the Church sings about this Sunday's them of the Exile of Adam from Paradise.  Why did Adam cry the most bitter tears of all mankind?  The true treasure found in waking with God versus the pseudo-treasure that Satan uses to deceive us.  How a priest's number one job is to convince everyone that we are already rich in Christ.  Lent is the willful entering into a "spiritual desert" in order to strip away all the secondary and tertiary things in our lives so that the essential things can appear to us. 

How many of these cliches have you heard? "Forgiveness brings healing." "Forgiveness brings restoration." "Forgiveness causes the other to come to repentance." "Forgiveness unlocks a cage, only you find that you are setting yourself free." How do these cliches stack up against Scripture? Sometimes it can take so little to be hurt or hurt someone else. We may even build a wall of protection around a hurt that makes it more and more difficult to dismantle over the years. Everett Worthington, who has researched forgiveness and endured coming to terms with his own mother's murder, likens unforgiveness to a dragon protecting a hoard. Join Rev. Divine forgiveness (DF) remains understudied, despite its importance in many people’s spirituality and links to wellbeing (Fincham, 2022). Most research has focused on general beliefs about DF, such as God’s forgiving nature and how these beliefs relate to other forms of forgiveness (Fincham & Maranges, 2024). In contrast, little is known about how individuals experience DF for specific transgressions—how they seek it, perceive receiving it, and how it affects their identity, relationship with God, and behavior. Although some DF-seeking processes align with subscales of existing measures like the RCOPE (Pargament et al., 2000), current tools likely miss important aspects of DF-seeking and experiencing. For instance, no measures assess whether people feel forgiven by God for a particular act. Our previous research with an undergraduate sample and online sample used exploratory bifactor analysis to examine the structure of a large pool of items assessing seeking DF and receiving DF. The current study seeks to confirm the structure identified in previous samples using bifactor-exploratory structural equation modeling (B-ESEM) in an online sample of adults. Fincham, F. D. (2022). Forgiveness has been defined in many ways by many traditions. However, a powerful and clinically relevant way of defining forgiveness is as a suite of skills that can be learned to promote a sense of self-efficacy, emotional effectiveness, physical and emotional well-being & resolution of grieving in the aftermath of betrayal, wrongdoings and even trauma. In this episode with author, teacher, and clinician Dr. Fred Luskin, we discuss the clinical and practical implementation of his forgiveness model as outlined in his best-selling book Forgive For Good. In this conversation we review:the Forgive for Good definition of forgivenessthe preconditions of forgiveness, including grievinghow & when a grievance has formed and when this becomes a barrier to moving forwardforgiveness as a strategy for resolving complicated griefthe definition and application of the concept of "unenforceable rules"the definition and application of the concept of the "personal and impersonal pain" dialectic and how this concept is critical to conceptualizing our hurts caveats and considerations around forgiveness in the context of traumaa brief consideration of the role of forgiveness in helping address clinician burnout/compassion fatigue.Fred Luskin, Ph.D. is Director of the Stanford Forgiveness Project, an ongoing series of workshops and research projects that investigate the effectiveness of his forgiveness methods on a variety of populations. The forgiveness project has successfully explored forgiveness therapy with people who suffered from the violence in Northern Ireland, Sierra Leone as well as the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11. In addition his work has been successfully applied and researched in corporate, medical, legal and religious settings. He currently serves as a Senior Consultant in Health Promotion at Stanford University and is a Professor at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology. He presents lectures, workshops, seminars and training on the importance, health benefits and training of forgiveness, stress management and emotional competence throughout the United States. Forgiveness In 3D: Part One

“As I have done you must do likewise,” clearly refers to his giving forgiveness to them and their need to do the same to each other. Rising to new life entails dying to our old life. The Fathers express this by saying the baptismal font is both tomb and womb. The body of the Church must practice forgiveness, or it won’t be. “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven.” Jesus forgave his murderers and torturers because “they know not what they do.” To miss this is to miss everything. God has created all human life to love the good. We can be truly free only with the aid of divine grace. Christ has made sin and evil a temporary condition , which is what salvation means, that that temporary condition has been overcome. Believing in mercy is step one. Hoping in mercy is step two. Experiencing mercy is step three.

Jesus says that to really experience life to the fullest, we have to first die to ourselves.

is forgiveness as easy to obtain from God as we think or is there more.

Sunday morning, I spoke about how all of humanity can receive forgiveness, salvation and peace through Christ. We looked at the story of a sinful woman anointing Jesusâ feet with an expensive perfume at the home of a Pharisee named Simon. This woman, who must have been looked at as one of the worst of the worst sinners in the community, was able to find forgiveness, salvation, and peace through Jesus; just like each and every one of us could.
