The protection of double circuit transmission lines is a challenging task. The proposed work presents a protection technique based on the high-frequency transients generated by the fault to cover almost the total length of double circuit transmission lines. This paper presents the formal verification of a new protocol for online distributed diagnosis for the SPIDER family of architectures. An instance of the Scalable Processor-Independent Design for Electromagnetic Resilience (SPIDER) architecture consists of a collection of processing elements communicating over a Reliable Optical Bus (ROBUS). The ROBUS is a specialized fault-tolerant device that guarantees Interactive Consistency, Distributed Diagnosis (Group Membership), and Synchronization in the presence of a bounded number of physical faults. Formal verification of the original SPIDER diagnosis protocol provided a detailed understanding that led to the discovery of a significantly more efficient protocol. The original protocol was adapted from the formally verified protocol used in the MAFT architecture. It required O(N) message exchanges per defendant to correctly diagnose failures in a system with N nodes. The new protocol achieves the same diagnostic fidelity, but only requires O(1) exchanges per defendant. This paper presents this new diagnosis protocol and a formal proof of its correctness using PVS.

Compared with commonly used schemes involving dedicated devices or complicated techniques, a convenient approach for breakdown locating based on transmission line (TL) theory offers advantages in the typical constant-gradient TW-accelerating structure. To deliver such an approach, an equivalent TL model has been constructed to equate the TW-accelerating structure based on the fundamental theory of the TL transient response in the time domain. An equivalence relationship between the TW-accelerating structure and the TL model has been established via analytical derivations associated with grid charts and verified by TL circuit simulations. Furthermore, to validate the proposed fault-locating method in practical applications, an elaborate analysis via such a method has been conducted for the recoverable RF-breakdown phenomena observed at an existing prototype of a TW-accelerating-structure-based beam injector constructed at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology. In addition, further considerations and discussion for extending the applications of the proposed method have been given. This breakdown-locating approach involving the transient response in the framework of TL theory can be a conceivable supplement to existing methods, facilitating solution to construction problems at an affordable cost. A highly accurate transmission line fault locator based on the traveling-wave principle was developed and successfully operated within B.C. Hydro. A transmission line fault produces a fast-risetime traveling wave at the fault point which propagates along the transmission line. This fault locator system consists of traveling wave detectors located at key substations which detect and time tag the leading edge of the fault-generated traveling wave as if passes through. A master station gathers the time-tagged information from the remote detectors and determines the location of the fault. Precise time is a key element to the success of this system. This fault locator system derives its timing from the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites. System tests confirmed the accuracy of locating faults to within the design objective of +/-300 meters.

 Neural computing is now one of the most promising technologies in all fields of engineering, resulting in the development of a number of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Double circuit transmission lines are being employed in the distribution of power to consumers and have become more widespread than single transmission line, as they increase the electric power transmission capacity and the reliability of an electrical system. Losses along transmission lines occur due to faults. Possible faults on the transmission line were predicted using Artificial Neutral Network. In this work, the simulation of fault on a 132kV double circuit transmission lines using MATLAB was undertaken. Parameters considered during the simulation were the input of the network which is the fault current value at each fault location while the output of the network is the fault location. The efficiency of the neural network was tested and verified. This approach provided satisfactory results with accuracy of 95% or higher.
