All other jurisdictions have some kind of formal voice, within government, for women. The speaker will present evidence from various sources, including Statistics Canada and other national data sources, that women in Alberta still experience disproportionate levels of poverty, low wages and high levels of economic inequality in comparison with men. Such data are contained in a report produced by partnership between Parkland Institute based in Edmonton and Womanspace Resource Centre, Lethbridge. The speaker is a key figure in the creation of the report.Issues addressed in the presentation will include concerns that, for women, Alberta is the most unequal place in Canada. An Alberta woman working a full-year and full-time earns, on average, 60% of a man''s salary. By contrast, Quebec women earn, on average, 81% of men''s earnings. The survey by the UNESCO secretariat on the equality of access of girls and women to education in the context of rural development forms the basis of this report. A questionnaire (Annex I) was sent to all Member States and associate members of UNESCO. Replies from fifty-six countries were considered, with 45 detailed replies furnishing the main data for the report. The first part describes characteristics of rural areas, size of their population, and the reasons, scope, and impact of the exodus of women to towns and urban areas. A description of the present situation with respect to the unequal access to education of girls and women in rural areas follows and includes characteristics of educational systems, opportunities and difficulties encountered. The essential factors of rural development and the extent of women's role in this process (activities engaged in and employment opportunities depending on the level of training) form the third part of the report. In conclusion, the replies received make it possible to pick out certain features of the various countries' policies for the advancement of rural women. The challenge of equality in the strong subadditivity inequality of entropy is approached via a general additivity of correlation information in terms of nonoverlapping clusters of subsystems in multipartite states (density operators). A family of tripartite states satisfying equality is derived.

In this project, we look into the sense of belonging of students who identify with one or more background indicators that have historically been underrepresented in higher education (HE). More specifically, we will interview students before and after they participate in a course that addresses issues of (in)equality and diversity within the context of the content of the course that students follow.

For $k \ge 2$, let $H$ be a $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices and $m$ edges. The transversal number $\tau(H)$ of $H$ is the minimum number of vertices that intersect every edge. Chv\'{a}tal and McDiarmid [Combinatorica 12 (1992), 19--26] proved that $\tau(H)\le ( n + \left\lfloor \frac k2 \right\rfloor m )/ ( \left\lfloor \frac{3k}2 \right\rfloor )$. When $k = 3$, the connected hypergraphs that achieve equality in the Chv\'{a}tal-McDiarmid Theorem were characterized by Henning and Yeo [J. Graph Theory 59 (2008), 326--348]. In this paper, we characterize the connected hypergraphs that achieve equality in the Chv\'{a}tal-McDiarmid Theorem for $k = 2$ and for all $k \ge 4$.

For a certain class of two-dimensional lattices, lattice-dual pairs are shown to have the same bond percolation critical exponents. A computational proof is given for the martini lattice and its dual to illustrate the method. The result is generalized to a class of lattices that allows the equality of bond percolation critical exponents for lattice-dual pairs to be concluded without performing the computations. The proof uses the substitution method, which involves stochastic ordering of probability measures on partially ordered sets. As a consequence, there is an infinite collection of infinite sets of two-dimensional lattices, such that all lattices in a set have the same critical exponents.
