Aim: We aim to evaluate the effect of the movement of air bubbles after embryo transfer (ET) on pregnancy outcomes under transabdominal ultrasound-guided ET in IVF cycles.  Material and Method: One hundred and thirty six (136) ultrasound-guided fresh fundal ETs included in this study were divided into 3 groups according to the movement of air bubbles after ET. Group 1 (n=101) consisted of ETs in which the air bubbles moved towards the uterine fundus with ejection immediately after transfer; Group 2 (n=5) consisted of ETs in which the air bubbles moved towards the cervical canal after transfer; Group 3 (n=30) consisted of ETs in which no movement of air bubbles was observed after transfer. The primary outcome was the clinical pregnancy rate.  Results: Of all the transfers, 53 (38.9%) resulted in a clinical pregnancy. Of these clinical pregnancies, 75% was in group 1, 1.9% was in group 2 and 22.6% was in group 3. The clinical pregnancy rates were 39.6%, 20%, and 40% in groups1, 2, and 3 respectively. The clinical pregnancy rates were dramatically reduced in cases with the air bubbles moving towards the cervical canal after transfer, although this did not reach statistical significance (p=0.67).  Discussion: The movement of air bubbles towards the cervical canal after transfer can reflect a poor prognostic outcome in terms of lower pregnancy rates and can influence the success of IVF treatment.

ABSTRACT Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the most suitable endometrial preparation protocols such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) with gonadotropin releasing hormone analogue (GnRH-a) suppression, HRT without GnRH-a suppression and mild ovarian stimulation (OS) for women with  polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) undergoing frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET). Material and Methods: We conducted a historical cohort analysis of 161 women with PCOS who underwent the “freeze-all” strategy between December 2018 and August 2020 because of their high risk for ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Three endometrial preparation protocols were used: HRT with GnRH-a suppression (n=43); HRT without GnRH-a suppression (n=86); mild-OS (n=32). Results: The biochemical pregnancy results (55.8 % vs 54.65 % vs 53, p=0.900), ongoing pregnancy rates (44.2 % vs 43 % vs 40.62, p=0.572), and abort rates (20.8 % vs 21.3 % vs 23.52, p=0.900) were similar between the HRT with GnRH-a suppression, without GnRH-a suppression and mild-OS, respectively. This study showed no statistically significant difference between the three protocols in laboratory parameters (p>0.05). Conclusion: There was no statistically difference between three groups in terms of pregnancy outcomes. Dependent on clinical experience and facility, one of these protocols could be deployed for FET in women with PCOS.

Spherical embryos of the algal genus $Volvox$ must turn themselves inside out to complete their embryogenesis. This `inversion', which shares important features with morphological events such as gastrulation in animals, is perhaps the simplest example of a topological transition in developmental biology. Waves of cell shape changes are believed to play a major role in the process, but quantification of the dynamics and formulation of a mathematical description of the process have been lacking. Here, we use selective plane illumination microscopy on $V. globator$ to obtain the first quantitative three-dimensional visualizations of inversion $in~vivo$. A theory is formulated for inversion based on local variations of intrinsic curvature and stretching of an elastic shell, and for the mechanics of an elastic snap-through resisted by the surrounding fluid.

An expression for the free energy of embryo formation is constructed and analyzed. The Gibbs dividing surfaces method is used to attain a coincidence between Laplace formula for critical embryo and integral definitions of concenterations inside the embryo. A global structure of free energy is analyzed and some useful properties are extracted.

This study was undertaken to determine the optimum harvest time for infected duck embryo cell (DEC) cultures to yield the highest rickettsial titers and greatest infectivity for rhesus monkeys. A consistently reproducible Rocky Mountain spotted fever-infected monkey model for pathogenesis studies and testing vaccine is produced when the inoculum given intravenously contains =1000000 chick embryo median lethal dose organisms. This is optimally attained with day-4 DEC culture harvest material. (Author)
