Atmospheric turbulence has been shown to have measurable effects on the angle-of-arrival (AOA) of electromagnetic wave beams, but these effects are on the order of a few microradians, which is a negligible level for most applications. In this paper, we present a theory describing this phenomenon and compare this theory to one-way measurements made over a 3.5 km path and two way measurements made over a 25 km path using an Xband interferometric radar.

It's pointed out that the traditional gyrokinetic theory dealing with low frequency electromagnetic perturbation violates the near identity transformation, which is supposed to be obeyed by Lie perturbed transformation theory, if resonance happens between \omega and k\cdot v. A modification is given to overcome this problem by not requiring all components in the first order Lagrangian 1-form equaling zero. A numerical example is given as an application of the new theory.

The non-relativistic quantum field theoretic lagrangian which describes an anyon system in the presence of an electromagnetic field is identified. A non-minimal magnetic coupling to the Chern-Simons statistical field as well as to the electromagnetic field together with a direct coupling between between both fields are the non-trivial ingredients of the lagrangian obtained from the non-relativistic limit of the fermionic relativistic formulation. The results, an electromagnetic gyromagnetic ratio 2 for any spin together with a non-trivial dynamical spin dependent contact interaction between anyons as well as the spin dependence of the electromagnetic effective action, agree with the quantum mechanical formulation.

A quantum kinetic theory for correlated charged-particle systems in strong time-dependent electromagnetic fields is developed. Our approach is based on a systematic gauge-invariant nonequilibrium Green's functions formulation. We concentrate on the selfconsistent treatment of dynamical screening and electromagnetic fields which is applicable to arbitrary nonequilibrium situations. Numerical results for the nonlinear plasma heating by the laser field and the electron-ion collision frequency including multi-photon absorption (inverse bremsstrahlung) are presented.

We consider a pp-wave symmetric model in the framework of the Einstein-Maxwell-aether-axion theory. Exact solutions to the equations of axion electrodynamics are obtained for the model, in which pseudoscalar, electric and magnetic fields were constant before the arrival of a gravitational pp-wave. We show that dynamo-optical interactions, i.e. couplings of the electromagnetic field to a dynamic unit vector field, attributed to the velocity of a cosmic substratum (aether, vacuum, dark fluid...), provide the response of axionically active electrodynamic system to display anomalous behavior.

A concise discussion of the 3-dimensional irreducible (1,0) and (0,1) representations of the restricted Lorentz group and their application to the description of the electromagnetic field is given. It is shown that a mass term is in conflict with relativistic invariance of a formalism using electric and magnetic fields only, contrasting the case of the two-component Majorana field equations. An important difference between the Dirac equation and the Dirac form of Maxwell's equations is highlighted by considering the coupling of the electromagnetic field to the electric current.

A Brillouin-Wigner perturbation theory is developed for open electromagnetic systems which are characterised by discrete resonant states with complex eigenenergies. Since these states are exponentially growing at large distances, a modified normalisation is introduced that allows a simple spectral representation of the Green's function. The perturbed modes are found by solving a linear eigenvalue problem in matrix form. The method is illustrated on exactly solvable one- and three-dimensional examples being, respectively, a dielectric slab and a microsphere.

15-component matrix and tetrad-based description of a a scalar particle with two electromagnetic characteristics -- charge e and polarizability \sigma, is elaborated in presence of external Coulomb field. With the use of Wigner's D-functions, in the basis of diagonal spherical tetrad, the separation of variables in the generalized wave equation is done, and a system of 15 radial equations is given. It is shown that the radial system is reduced to a generalized Klein-Fock radial equation with an additional term of the form r^{-4}. In the framework of the analogous approach a scalar particle with charge e and polarizability \sigma is investigated in presence of the field of a magnetic charge g. The separation of variables is done. Again all the radial system is reduced to a single differential equation of second order with an additional term of the form r^{-4} . This means that because of the known peculiar properties of the potential r^{-4} (an absorbing center), the monopole influence on the scalar particle with \sigma -characteristics is much more noticeable in the radial equation than in the case of usual particle.

In this work we apply Bohr-Sommerfeld (Old quantum atomic) theory for analysis of some remarkable electro-dynamical problems, concretely magnetic monopoles, electron electromagnetic mass and fine structure constant. We reproduce exactly some basic elements of the Dirac magnetic monopoles theory, especially Dirac electric/magnetic charge quantization condition. It follows after application of Bohr-Sommerfeld theory at the system, simply called magnetic monopole "atom", consisting of the practically standing, massive magnetic monopole as the "nucleus" and electron rotating stable around magnetic monopole under magnetic and electrostatic interactions. Also, we obtain exactly relativistic equivalence between electron electromagnetic self-interaction energy (that is negative and that corresponds to the electron as a stable system without introduction of any non-electromagnetic forces) and electron electromagnetic mass (without any non-electromagnetic mass fractions). It follows, in full agreement with Heisenberg uncertainty relations and Compton wavelength definition, after application of Bohr-Sommerfeld theory at the effective, "real" electron modeled as a complex system, simply called electron "atom"(consisting of two virtual, point-like electrons and one virtual, point-like positron in the middle) or, generally, electron "lattice" (consisting of many virtual, point-like electrons and positrons). Especially for electron "lattice" consisting of the virtual, point-like four electrons and three positrons, we obtain corresponding "discrete Madelung constant" practically exactly 1000 times larger than fine structure constant.

Characterized by its author as an "essay in constructive criticism," the book has as its chief purpose an examination, through careful analysis of standard texts and treatises, of accepted theory and the presentation of guidelines for a reconstruction in the field. Unfettered by dogma, authority, or consensus, this is a work in the great searching tradition of scientific advance. Professor O'Rahilly points out inadequacies and inconsistencies in various "established" concepts, such as the notion of displacement current in Maxwell's equations and Lorentz's "local time," and in theories of Heaviside, Kelvin, Einstein, Minkowski, J. J. Thomson, Hertz, Poynting, Weyl, etc. Extensive reference to primary sources (plus much directly quoted material) is made in these analyses. The integrations are carried out in terms of dimensionless scattering, and size distribution parameters, which are simply related to the usual mass scattering coefficients. Coupling of transients to aboveground transmission lines is analyzed and measured experimentally. Measurements were made using scale models approximately 1-foot high to represent power transmission lines. The coupling to the line and the propagation characteristics of the line were measured. The effects of bends and junctions on the transmitted signals were measured and analyzed. Periodically, grounded lines and multiconductor lines were also examined. The variation of the induced-voltage waveforms with soil conductivity, line height, and pulse width were calculated.

The Floquet-Bloch theorem allows waves in infinite, lossless periodic media to be expressed as a sum of discrete Floquet-Bloch modes, but its validity is challenged under the realistic constraints of loss and finite extent. In this work, we mathematically reveal the existence of Floquet-Bloch modes in the electromagnetic fields sustained by lossy, finite periodic layered media using Maxwell's equations alone without invoking the Floquet-Bloch theorem. Starting with a transfer-matrix representation of the electromagnetic field in a generic layered medium, we apply Fourier transformation and a series of mathematical manipulations to isolate a term explicitly dependent on Floquet-Bloch modes. Fourier-domain representation of the electromagnetic field can be reduced into a product of the Floquet-Bloch term and two other matrix factors: one governed by reflections from the medium boundaries and another dependent on layer composition. Electromagnetic fields in any finite, lossy, layered structure can now be interpreted in the Fourier-domain by separable factors dependent on distinct physical features of the structure. The developed theory enables new methods for analyzing and communicating the electromagnetic properties of layered metamaterials.
