1Synchronization Time In A Hyperbolic Dynamical System With Long-range Interactions
By Rodrigo Frehse Pereira, Sandro Ely de Souza Pinto and Sergio Roberto Lopes
We show that the threshold of complete synchronization in a lattice of coupled non-smooth chaotic maps is determined by linear stability along the directions transversal to the synchronization subspace. We examine carefully the sychronization time and show that a inadequate observation of the system evolution leads to wrong results. We present both careful numerical experiments and a rigorous mathematical explanation confirming this fact, allowing for a generalization involving hyperbolic coupled map lattices.

2Chaos Synchronization In A Hyperbolic Dynamical System With Long-range Interactions
By Rodrigo Frehse Pereira, Sandro Ely de Souza Pinto, Ricardo Luiz Viana and Sergio Roberto Lopes
We show that the threshold of complete synchronization in a lattice of coupled non-smooth chaotic maps is determined by linear stability along the directions transversal to the synchronization subspace. As a result, the numerically determined synchronization threshold agree with the analytical results previously obtained [C. Anteneodo et al., Phys. Rev. E 68, 045202(R) (2003)] for this class of systems. We present both careful numerical experiments and a rigorous mathematical explanation confirming this fact, allowing for a generalization involving hyperbolic coupled map lattices.

3Mechanism Of Synchronization In A Random Dynamical System
By Dong-Uk Hwang, Inbo Kim, Sunghwan Rim, Chil-Min Kim and Young-Jai Park
The mechanism of synchronization in the random Zaslavsky map is investigated. From the error dynamics of two particles, the structure of phase space was analyzed, and a transcritical bifurcation between a saddle and a stable fixed point was found. We have verified the structure of on-off intermittency in terms of a biased random walk. Furthermore, for the generalized case of the ensemble of particles, \emph{a modified definition} of the size of a snapshot attractor was exploited to establish the link with a random walk. As a result, the structure of on-off intermittency in the ensemble of particles was explicitly revealed near the transition.

4Adaptive Synchronization And Anticipatory Dynamical System
By Ying-Jen Yang, Chun-Chung Chen, Pik-Yin Lai and C. K. Chan
Many biological systems can sense periodical variations in a stimulus input and produce well-timed, anticipatory responses after the input is removed. Such systems show memory effects for retaining timing information in the stimulus and cannot be understood from traditional synchronization consideration of passive oscillatory systems. To understand this anticipatory phenomena, we consider oscillators built from excitable systems with the addition of an adaptive dynamics. With such systems, well-timed post-stimulus responses similar to those from experiments can be obtained. Furthermore, a well-known model of working memory is shown to possess similar anticipatory dynamics when the adaptive mechanism is identified with synaptic facilitation. The last finding suggests that this type of oscillators can be common in neuronal systems with plasticity.
