This report is one of a series of three produced by a Rand study of the relationships between the tactical employment and the technological capabilities of advanced weapons for ground combat. The TIMER model was developed to determine the effects of terrain on target visibility during combat engagements. TIMER supplies data on the occurrence and duration of target visibility from defense positions, the maximum range at which target acquisition might occur, and the potential rate at which a defense force could fire on an attacking force. The model uses the digitalized data base developed by the Defense Mapping Agency. The report includes the TIMER inputs and program listings, and illustrates the results that TIMER can produce.
