Introduction Digital health is increasingly used to organise patient care delivery. Digital health is an umbrella term that refers to mobile health and applications, electronic health records and electronic medical record, telehealth and telemedicine, wearable devices, robotics, and artificial intelligence (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, {AIHW} 2020). Although, most of the literature rarely use the terms digital health or digital health systems. More frequently used terms include the electronic health record (EHR) and electronic medical record (EMR) which are used interchangeably across a wide range of research papers (Aapro et al, 2019). Information systems, information technology, health information system (HIS), and digital system are other terms that are used (Aapro et al, 2019). There is an overwhelming amount of literature on digital health to date and understandably as health care systems move towards a fully digital health landscape. In the United States of America (USA), the adoption of EHR in hospitals in 2018 was reported to be 98.3% (Apathy, Holmgren and Alder-Milstein, 2021) and growing. However, the adoption of digital health is perceived to be challenging in low to middle income countries (Salemah, Batran and Jaser, 2019; Kumar and Mostafa, 2020). Nurses are the highest users of digital health systems within the hospital and reported to be the largest proportion of the health care workforce (Jedwab et al, 2019). Nurses in hospital and community health settings use digital health systems to provide timely, safe, quality, and patient centred care (PCC) (Fix et al, 2017). PCC is at the heart of nursing practice and requires the integration of patients’ needs, perceptions, and experiences in the nursing process (Fix et al, 2017). Debono et al, (2017), reported that prior to the implication of digital health systems there were problems with poor and delayed access to patient clinical information and timely record keeping of clinical events, which necessitated the need for efficient, reliable, and advanced digital health systems as a solution. Likewise, Yuan, Dudley, Boscardin and Lin, (2019), stated that the adoption of digital health systems have improved a range of clinical outcomes including: a reduction in medication errors, has enhanced accessibility to patient clinical information, improved facilitation and coordination of care, clinical decision-making through automated information and guidelines. However, evidence specific to the oncology nurses’ experience of using digital systems in the nursing process is limited (Marthick et al, 2021; Lau and Loiselle, 2018). Oncology nursing for cancer patients requires specific clinical knowledge and skills to address this population's needs. There were 18.1 million new cancer cases globally and 9.6 million cancer mortality rates in 2018, (Aapro et al, 2019), and therefore the person-centred health care needs, and nursing contact, for this population is high. New and evolving cancer therapies necessitates increased monitoring and timely supported self-management of symptoms. Against the backdrop of increasing numbers of patients being diagnosed with cancer globally, oncology nurses are required to meet the clinical demands of an increasing population across the entire cancer care continuum (Lau and Loiselle, 2018). Digital health systems are utilised by cancer nurses to meet these care demands in a variety of both hospital and community care (also referred to as ambulatory care) settings (Hopstaken et al, 2021). Cancer care is diverse in nature, with complex disease processes, treatment, and complications, along with the high psychosocial and emotional support demands (Young et al, 2020). A study on nurses’ experiences revealed nurses found digital systems helped with time management and timesaving when analysing patient data, enabled timely interventions to be delivered when patients were identified to have clinical deterioration, increased quality of quality of clinical services, and improved nurse-patient communication. However, barriers were reported which included: issues with dealing with technology which underscored the need for training to optimise digital literacy among nurses (Aapro et al, 2020; Lau and Loiselle, 2018). The perspectives represented from this study (Aapro et al, 2020) are among nurses working within the ambulatory cancer settings and therefore, these findings have limited transferability to other oncology settings. Systematic reviews on oncology nurses’ experiences are limited, of poor quality or poorly represent nurses from all areas of oncology care settings (Aapro et al, 2020). More information is needed to better understand nurses’ experiences of using digital health systems within this context of care as current general nursing literature on digital health may not be sufficient and applicable to oncology nurses and care settings. Digital systems can be problematic and can impact on nurses’ workflow in a variety of clinical settings. To illustrate, a study conducted by Dykes and Chu, 2020, reported that the interface of software designs, such as scanning the barcode on a patient wristband for identification purpose during medication administration was problematic among nurses. The scanning devices were often “glitchy” and did not consistently scan the barcodes to enable time administration of medications (Dykes and Chu, 2020). Consequently, this leads to delays in medication administrations and negative impacts on delays during critical care moments for patients. Like the interface software issues, the default recorded times on digital systems for monitoring of the patients’ vital signs were restrictive meaning that nurses took vital signs within predetermined set times (Dykes and Chu, 2020). This time limitations create unwanted stress on nurses and nurses became system focused rather than being patient focused. The changing demands of individual patients’ needs, and the flow of the nursing process should not be adversely interrupted by the strict technical and policy driven systems and structures, or technical system glitches within digital health systems. Colligan, Potts, Finn and Sinkin, (2015) reported increase work stresses due to digital system demands among paediatric nurses. The findings from this study (Colligan et al, 2015) identified that nurses’ practice occurs largely at the bedside where they converse with patients at point of care. The study found that having regimental and policy driven interface computer software systems can significantly interrupt workflow, therefore, impaired care delivery. Nursing work is cognitively demanding and there is no room for error (Colligan et al, 2015). Nurses are required to adhere to relevant standards, code of conduct, legislations, and local guidelines, at the same time being ethically and morally grounded. Providing safe, efficient, and quality care to patients is a vital and a foremost priority (Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care [ACSQHC], 2018). Effective clinical decision making, and clinical reasoning embedded within the nursing processes (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation) can be delayed or absent as nurses ration care, or do ‘workarounds (Ausserhofer et al, 2021; Bail et al, 2020; and Garcia, 2020). Therefore, a key area of inquiry is to understand oncology nurses’ experiences of using digital health systems in cancer care across hospital and community settings, and whether there is evidence of rationing, workarounds, interruptions as indicated in prior generalised studies (Marthick et al, 2021; Lau and Loiselle, 2018). Given the rapid transition to digital systems prior to, and during the COVID-19 pandemic (Paterson et al, 2020), it is timely to take stock of the existing evidence. To date, systematic reviews on nurses’ general experiences within a broad range of clinical context with a mixture of both international and Australian health systems. Existing systematic reviews have to date on: acceptance, effectiveness, and efficiency (Krick et al, 2019); effectiveness of digital technologies to support nursing care (Huter et al, 2020); measuring nursing benefits of an electronic medical record system (Jedwab et al, 2019); and methods used to examine technology in relation to the quality of nursing work in acute care (Redley and Douglas, 2020). Specific to the specialty of cancer and nursing, there have been two systematic reviews (Hopstaken, et al, 2020; and Marthick et al, 2021). The first systematic review (Hopsaken et al, 2020) focused on the effects of digital care platforms on quality of care for oncological patients and barriers and facilitators for system implementation, as well as patient and health care provider reported experiences (HCP) of digital health care platforms. The study found that HCPs perceived digital health care platforms as reliable, provided accessible patient information, and enabled communication between patient and HCP and among HCPs. Although, barriers such as increased workload were also reported but from physicians’ perspective and not specifically from nurses. The review implies that HCP reported experiences included nurses. The lack of clarity and definition of HCP from this review means that further evidence is needed for better understanding of oncology nurses’ experiences and digital health. The second review (Marthick et al, 2021), aimed to identify how supportive cancer care interventions are assisted by digital technology. This review found that digital supportive care interventions such as interactive voice response, tele and video counselling, web-based exercises, symptom monitoring enhanced patient self-care management skills though effective monitoring and reporting measures. Nursing support is also one of the interventions mentioned in the review although limited information on their involvement nor perspective on the overall digital supportive care. Therefore, this systematic review aims to identify oncology nurses’ experiences of using digital health systems in the delivery of cancer care in a variety of settings.

Digital systems implemented with high-speed transistor technologies face a variety of design challenges in an effort to keep pace with the accelerating demand for performance. As device switching frequencies climb comfortably into the gigahertz range, clock skew in digital systems threatens to limit the advantages of synchronous pipelined designs. This research investigates the limitations of clock skew on high-speed digital systems by designing and simulating an 8x8 bit synchronous, pipelined multiplier using Indium phosphide (InP), heterostructure bipolar junction (HBT) transistor technology. Fundamentals of circuit analysis and the principles of junction transistor behavior are applied to design an optimal family of logic devices using current-mode logic. All testing and simulation data is based upon results obtained from Tanner SPICE design tools. Using the building blocks of this logic family, an array multiplier is constructed and further configured into five distinct pipeline implementations. By employing a different number of pipeline stages in each implementation, the trade-offs of pipelining are illustrated and clock skew is analyzed at a variety of throughput rates. Finally, the impact of clock skew on throughput performance is quantified and summarized as a reference point for further research into asynchronous control techniques

Chronic pain is defined by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) as “an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage, persisting for more than 3 months” (Nicholas, 2019). It is multi-factorial, with biological, psychological, and social factors contributing to the pain experience and is often associated with significant emotional distress and functional disability (NICE; Nicholas, 2019). Chronic pain is a global challenge with significant economic and social burden (Zimmer, 2022). Estimates across countries vary, with reported prevalence ranging from 18% in developing countries (Sa, 2019) to 33% in low to middle income countries (Jackson, 2015). Across Europe, prevalence is estimated at 20% (Rometsch, 2025). The economic impact of chronic pain has been widely reported. European countries and the United States have consistently reported historical national healthcare and socioeconomic costs ranging into the billions annually (Gaskin, 2012; Raftery, 2012; Christensen, 2011; Gustavsson, 2012). Although a cure for chronic pain is not likely in many cases, appropriate interventions can substantially improve quality of life, mood, and functional ability (SIGN, 2013). The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) and The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommend supported self-management approaches in their guidelines for chronic pain. Supported self-management in chronic pain refers to a collaborative approach that enables individuals to manage the physical, emotional, and social impacts of pain with the guidance, encouragement, and support of healthcare professionals (HCPs) (Barlow 2002). Self-management interventions (SMIs) for chronic pain are increasingly delivered through digital modalities—such as apps, websites, and other eHealth tools—because these formats can overcome common barriers (e.g., geographical distance, mobility limitations, lengthy wait times) that restrict participation in traditional face-to-face programmes (Main et al. 2025, Bostrom et al. 2020, O’Reilly et al. 2022). This review will focus on blended /hybrid models of Dual-facing Digital Health Systems (DDHS )—platforms that provide tailored interfaces for both patients and healthcare professionals, enabling reciprocal communication, shared data access, and integrated care management. However, evidence regarding digitally delivered health interventions remains heterogeneous, encompassing diverse intervention types, populations, and settings, with limited reporting on the application of established frameworks to inform their design, implementation and evaluation (McCartney et al. 2025). To date, there are no reviews specifically investigating patient- and professional-facing DDHS despite their potential utility. There is a need to systematically map the literature on DDHS to understand the scope of research activity, highlight gaps, and inform future evidence syntheses. A scoping review is particularly suited due to the potential heterogeneity of available evidence in the context of the rapidly evolving nature of digital health research (Arksey & O’Malley, 2005; Levac et al., 2010). Accordingly, this scoping review seeks to systematically map the existing evidence on DDHS that support chronic pain self-management, with particular focus on the frameworks employed for intervention design, implementation, and evaluation, in order to identify gaps in the current literature in this domain.

Using experimental vignette methodology, we are - to our knowledge - the first to systematically examine the effects of the use of digital assistance systems (DAS) on motivational work characteristics. For this purpose, we present an assembly workplace, once with and once without a prior developed digital assistance system, to employees from the assembly department who evaluate the corresponding workplace with regard to motivational work characteristics. By this, ee provide important insights on potentially positive as well as negative (even contradicting) effects of using such systems in practice.

This paper proposed new hybrid, analog-digital, beamforming for a multiuser millimeter wave (mm-wave) relay system. For this system, we consider a sum rate maximization problem. The proposed hybrid beamforming is designed indirectly by considering a sum mean square error (MSE) minimization problem while utilizing the solution of digital beamforming. To this end, we assume that the digital beamforming utilizes the well known block diagonalization (BD) approach. Under this assumption, we solve our problem as follows: First, we formulate the sum rate maximization problem as the minimization of the MSE between the received signal of the hybrid and digital beamforming designs. Then, we design the hybrid beamformings of the source, relay and each destination by leveraging compressive sensing techniques. Simulation results confirm that the proposed hybrid beamforming design achieves performance very close to that of the digital one. Furthermore, we have examined the effects of the number of radio frequency (RF) chains and paths together, and the accuracy of angle of arrival (AoA) and angle of departure (AoD) estimators on the sum rate of the hybrid beamforming designs. Computer simulations reveal that the total sum rate of the hybrid beamforming increases when the number of RF chains and paths increase (or the accuracy of the AoA (AoD) estimator improves).
