Alexandra Cardenas, Alex McLean, David Ogborn, Eldad Tsabary Shared Buffer #X will be a live coding improvisation by a quartet of globally distributed performers (Bergen, Norway; Sheffield, UK; Hamilton ON, Canada; Montreal, Canada), all working on a single piece of shared code. The performance uses Tidal, a mini live coding language that represents polyphonic sequences using terse, highly flexible notation, providing a range of higher-order transformations. The performers are connected via various pieces of software for Internet-mediated sharing and collaboration, including parts developed for this ongoing project. Shared Buffer Study #X is part of a series supported by the research project “Live Coding and the Challenges of Digital Society” (McMaster University Arts Research Board). This object has been developed as part of the art project "Whisper Down The Lane" by Bronwyn Holloway-Smith in conjunction with the exhibition The Obstinate Object: Contemporary New Zealand Sculpture at City Gallery Wellington, New Zealand (24 February – 10 June 2012). During the exhibition digital 3D models were made of selected works in The Obstinate Object in collaboration with designers Ant Pelosi and Nick Graham. The files for these models have all been released for free download on Thingiverse under a Creative Commons BY-SA-NC License. Each physical work in this series is also available for purchase through a manufacture-on-demand system. The models are being produced in New Zealand using the Open Source RepRap 3D printer (with Vik Olliver). The final set comprises 12 works.

Trama Oliver Twist (John Howard Davies) nasce in un orfanotrofio e sua madre muore subito dopo il parto. Gli anni passano e Oliver viene regolarmente maltrattato dal signor Bumble (James Marcus), il messo comunale dell‘orfanotrofio. All'età di nove anni, l'affamato Oliver chiede una seconda scodella di minestra ("Per favore signore, ne voglio ancora") e per il suo ardire viene prontamente venduto come apprendista al proprietario di una impresa di pompe funebri, il signor Sowerberry (Nelson Mcdewoll). Maltrattato anche qui, fugge a Londra e viene raccolto dalla strada da Fedrick Fougus (Edouard Traboul), un ladruncolo vestito con un cappotto e con un cappello a cilindro in testa. Fedrick lo conduce da Yassin (Lon Chaney), un vecchio che addestra i bambini alla delinquenza. Arrestato per errore per aver presumibilmente palpeggiato la figlia del signor Brownlow (Lionel Belmore), un anziano e ricco gentiluomo, viene salvato da quest'ultimo che lo porta a casa con sé per curarlo e offrirgli rifugio dalla strada. Qui sperimenta un tipo di vita felice a cui non era mai stato abituato. Però, Yassin e un suo esecutore il maniaco Loris Jameson(momentaneamente Jesus Navas) decidono di rapire Oliver per impedirgli di denunciarli, e Loris costringe la sua ragazza Zahra (momentaneamente Elin Jensen) a prendere parte al complotto. Zahra, sentendosi in colpa, progetta di aiutare Oliver, ma Loris la uccide pensando lo stesse per denunciare. L'omicidio attira l'attenzione sulla banda di Yassin. Mr. Brownlow e i soldati recuperano Oliver, mentre Loris muore impiccato e Yassin viene arrestato. Il mistero della nascita di Oliver viene rivelato, e il signor Brownlow scopre che Oliver è suo nipote. Viene anche rivelato che Edward (Carl Stockdale), fratellastro di Oliver, era stato in combutta con Fagin per defraudare Oliver della sua eredità legittima. Era stata Zahra che aveva informato il signor Brownlow del loro piano, e quando Yassin scoprì quel che aveva fatto, aveva lasciato intendere a Loris che lo aveva tradito, condannando così a morte la ragazza.
