6DTIC ADA074601: Data Model Processing: An Approach To Standardization Of Database Management Systems.

By

This paper outlines a general philosophy and framework for the specification of a data model. Extracts from scenarios that have been developed for specification of several well-known data models (e.g., DBTG, relational, TDMS) are given and discussed. These extracts are preliminary and incomplete, but they are used to illustrate the feasibility of the Data Model Processor Approach. The scenarios are intended for implementation of an augmented positional processor that will be able to support different data models and, through transformation, serve in defining and testing new DBMS standards. 7DTIC ADA564387: Development Of Novel Data Processing Schemes And Global Seismic Event Database And Special Studies To Support The Explosions Monitoring Research Program

By

The Boston College Institute for Scientific Research (ISR) has conducted innovative research using tools, analysis techniques, and database development to support the Air Force Research Laboratory s (AFRL) nuclear monitoring program. The innovative research objectives of this task have been directed toward applying waveform modeling techniques to earthquakes and explosions at locations of interest to the community where both teleseismic and regional waveform data are available. Moderate to large earthquake sources provide high resolution ground truth information for regional studies of earthquake and explosion phenomenology. Some of our major efforts included the New England Damage Experiment where the question of shear wave generation mechanisms for explosive sources was addressed. Another major effort included the determination of attenuation parameters in La Paz, Bolivia for improved seismic phase identification.

12Optimize Your Database Operations With Asynchronous Processing

By

By: Radical Rakhman Wahid Event: PyConZA 2021 URL: https://2021.za.pycon.org/talks/35-optimize-your-database-operations-with-asynchronous-processing/ The bottleneck of a program can be caused by many reasons like bad data structure/logic/algorithm implementation, network connection, I/O bound operations, processor, etc. Database operations is kind of I/O bound operation which means, when it comes to the DB query program will waiting the result from another separate process. If the bottleneck is from the DB operations then you should try asynchronous processing :) In Python, asynchronous support first introduced in version 3.4. Now the asynchronous Python is getting better by increasing third party packages. In this talk I'll cover the explanation about asynchronous DB operations in Python and then hands-off to show the results of using the asynchronous code compare with the synchronous one. Postscript : Since I work day to day using the ORM (like SQLAlchemy) and PostgreSQL is our main DBMS (for product development), so the async in DB ops will be covered with SQLAlchemy and PsycoPG/AsyncPG as well. Audience: Anyone who work with database operations (data scientists, back-end engineers, students/researchers, etc.) What will they get out of it: - Clear concept and application of asynchronous DB operations that can be applied in production environment, as well. - A modern way to optimize query DB time with a minimum resource. 17DTIC ADA585306: WaveNet: A Web-Based Metocean Data Access, Processing And Analysis Tool, Part 2 - WIS Database

By

This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) describes coupling of the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Wave Information System (WIS) database to Wavenet, the first module of MetOcnDat (Meteorological and Oceanographic Data or Metocean data) management and analysis system. Part 2 in the WaveNet technical note series provides a step-by-step procedure for users to access, process and analyze wave and wind data from the WIS database. Wilson et al. (2012) provided a detailed description of WaveNet in the Part 1 companion CHETN and demonstrated the utility of WaveNet for National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) wave data. WaveNet is a web-based Graphical-User-Interface (GUI) data management tool that allows users to access, process and analyze wave and wind data from different metocean data sources. TideNet is the next addition to the MetOcnDat system that will provide access and similar functionality for water level and current data. Once the user identifies a data need for a time interval, WaveNet performs data processing on-the-fly to check the availability, quality and consistency of data. It allows users to extract data to download, analyze and prepare input files for numerical wave models, and provides tabular and graphical information for project planning and design reports. WaveNet addresses a basic need of the Corps coastal modeling and planning missions by acquiring metocean data and providing analysis methods to minimize the complexity and uncertainty involved in data processing. This CHETN provides a guide for users to access the WIS database using WaveNet and step-by-step instructions that demonstrate processing and analysis of WIS data for project planning, design and evaluation studies, as well as the generation of input files for numerical wave models.

18DTIC ADA246382: A Database Processing Application For The Direct Air Support Center

By

The Marine Air Command and Control System execution of Direct Air Support is based on the concept of centralized command and decentralized control. It is completed manually using standardized procedures and controls to ensure responsiveness in highly dynamic situations. This thesis investigates the issues in developing and implementing an automated database application for receiving, processing, disseminating, and recording information as it pertains to the Air Tasking Order within the Direct Air Support Center. A relational database design is proposed using Entity-Relationship modeling. A simple prototype of the system is implemented in dBASE IV to demonstrate proof of concept. The major benefit of the database approach is that databases are dynamic and can evolve with changing needs.

19NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) 20080007041: Methods And Apparatus For Constructing And Implementing A Universal Extension Module For Processing Objects In A Database

By

Methods and apparatus for providing a multi-tier object-relational database architecture are disclosed. In one illustrative embodiment of the present invention, a multi-tier database architecture comprises an object-relational database engine as a top tier, one or more domain-specific extension modules as a bottom tier, and one or more universal extension modules as a middle tier. The individual extension modules of the bottom tier operationally connect with the one or more universal extension modules which, themselves, operationally connect with the database engine. The domain-specific extension modules preferably provide such functions as search, index, and retrieval services of images, video, audio, time series, web pages, text, XML, spatial data, etc. The domain-specific extension modules may include one or more IBM DB2 extenders, Oracle data cartridges and/or Informix datablades, although other domain-specific extension modules may be used.

20DTIC ADA500568: Database Creation For Information Processing Methods, Metrics, And Models (DCIPM3)

By

One challenge of tactical information processing within the demanding net-centric environment is the fusion of data extracted from various free-form message databases. The development of high-level data fusion products addresses this challenge; however, development relies heavily on the availability of large, accurate data sets. This report documents the Database Creation for Information Processing Methods, Metrics, and Models (DCIPM3) project that creates, from a U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL)-designated context, a notional albeit realistic detailed scenario encompassing a multitude of social interactions. A time ordered event list (TOEL) was created from the scenario that includes references to multiple forms of communication, events, and interactions between subjects. An extensive message set that includes communication between subjects was derived from the TOEL. The Web Ontology Language (OWL) was used to create an ontology populated with information, e.g., 'meet at two,' from the message set. Resource Description Framework (RDF) triples were extracted from this ontology. The resulting database from the extracted triples can be used by the information fusion community when both a known social context and a comprehensive database of messages to support that context are required.

26On The Abductive Or Deductive Nature Of Database Schema Validation And Update Processing Problems

By

We show that database schema validation and update processing problems such as view updating, materialized view maintenance, integrity constraint checking, integrity constraint maintenance or condition monitoring can be classified as problems of either abductive or deductive nature, according to the reasoning paradigm that inherently suites them. This is done by performing abductive and deductive reasoning on the event rules [Oli91], a set of rules that define the difference between consecutive database states In this way, we show that it is possible to provide methods able to deal with all these problems as a whole. We also show how some existing general deductive and abductive procedures may be used to reason on the event rules. In this way, we show that these procedures can deal with all database schema validation and update processing problems considered in this paper.

27DTIC ADA571008: Open-Source Multi-Language Audio Database For Spoken Language Processing Applications

By

This report gives a detailed summary of research work completed under Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) grant 53925, over the time period (April 12, 2010 April 10, 2012). There are two main aspects of the work completed. First was the collection and annotation of a large open source data base of speech passages from web sites such as You Tube. 300 passages were collected in each of three languages English, Mandarin, and Russian. Approximately 30 hours of speech were collected for each language. Each passage has been carefully transcribed at the phrasal level by human listeners. Each passage was originally transcribed and then checked and the transcription edited as needed by at least two additional native language listeners. The English and Mandarin were then forced aligned and labeled at the phonetic level using a combination of manual and automatic methods. The Russian passages have not yet been marked at the phonetic level. Another phase of the work was to explore several algorithmic methods for improving automatic speech recognition (ASR) for this intelligible but challenging data base. Note that the body of the report has four main sections plus appendices which introduce, describe, and summarize a portion of the work.

The biological sample processing system (BSPS) combines sample pretreatment, protein concentration, and separation modules and was interfaced to electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Multivariate analysis software capabilities were used for automated data processing. The bacterial identification by the BSPS-MS is based on Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of various bacterial proteins followed by their correlation with in-house database constructed from several bacteria of interest using our in-house ProMAPDB software. The identification of bacteria using ProMAPDB was validated using standard proteins analyzed by the BSPS-MS under various conditions. The results show that BSPS analysis was reproducible and sensitive at 1000 cfu/mL.

34Federal Information Processing Standards Publication: Database Language SQL

By

35Exoplanet Transit Database. Reduction And Processing Of The Photometric Data Of Exoplanet Transits

By

We demonstrate the newly developed resource for exoplanet researchers - The Exoplanet Transit Database. This database is designed to be a web application and it is open for any exoplanet observer. It came on-line in September 2008. The ETD consists of three individual sections. One serves for predictions of the transits, the second one for processing and uploading new data from the observers. We use a simple analytical model of the transit to calculate the central time of transit, its duration and the depth of the transit. These values are then plotted into the observed - computed diagrams (O-C), that represent the last part of the application.

45ERIC ED352007: Semantics-Based Reference Resolution In Technical Text Processing: An Exploration Of Using The WordNet Database In The Computerized Comprehensibility System.

By

The Computerized Comprehensibility System (CCS) provides an automated copy editing function, generating a mark-up of a draft of a technical document by simulating the simpler comprehension processes of a human reader, and then criticizing the text when these simple processes cannot successfully comprehend the material. A key CCS function is criticizing the coherence of the material by tracking which objects are mentioned in the passage. A common comprehensibility problem is that the text mentions a new object using the syntactic structures appropriate for an already known object. If the reader must make an inference that presence of the new object is implied by the earlier mentioned object, the result is a potential break in the coherence of the text. CCS criticizes all such coherence breaks. However, many such inferences are actually easy for most readers, since only general knowledge is required to make the inference, rather than specialized knowledge about the domain. If so, then the CCS criticism of a coherence break is a false alarm. This report describes exploratory work with an augmented form of CCS, in which the WordNet database is used as a source of general knowledge to allow CCS to make the same kind of general knowledge inferences that human readers do to overcome coherence breaks. (Contains 6 references.) (Author/AFL)

48DTIC ADA616442: WaveNet: A Web-Based Metocean Data Access, Processing And Analysis Tool; Part 5 - WW3 Database

By

This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) describes coupling of the WAVEWATCH III (WW3) database to WaveNet, the first module of MetOcnDat (Meteorological and Oceanographic Data or Metocean data) management and analysis system. This Part 5 technical note in the WaveNet series provides a step-by-step procedure for users to access, process, and analyze wave and wind data from the WW3 database. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) coastal modeling and planning missions require metocean data (e.g., winds, waves, tides, water levels). WaveNet is a web-based graphical-user-interface (GUI) data management tool that allows users to access, process, and analyze wave and wind data from different data sources. This GUI provides a combination of analysis and graphical tools to minimize the complexity and uncertainty in data processing for project needs. It allows users to check status of data processing, check the availability of data, and analyze quality and consistency of data. Users can extract, download, analyze, and prepare input files for numerical wave models and obtain tabular and graphical information for project planning and reporting and further analysis. Four previous companion CHETNs (Wilson et al. 2012; Demirbilek et al. 2013, 2014a, 2014b) provide descriptions and demonstrations of the WaveNet application to wave databases most frequently used in the United States. These earlier User s Guides describe details of the utility of WaveNet with the following databases: Part 1 for the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC); Part 2 for the Wave Information Study (WIS); Part 3 for the Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP); and Part 4 for the Great Lakes Observing System/Coastal Forecasting System (GLOS/GLCFS). Using step-by-step instructions, this Part 5 guide describes how to access the WW3 database using WaveNet.

49DTIC ADA112168: Integration Of Narrative Processing, Data Fusion, And Database Updating Techniques In An Automated System.

By

Narrative data processing and database updating are examined from the viewpoint of interaction with other processes in an automated data fusion system. Methods are outlined for using production rules (if-then rules) in the processing of the narrative data and for integrating such a process with other rule-based data-fusion processes. Database updating methods which employ a 'history file' are processed. An experimental rule-based program compares event reports for redundancies, combines reports of the same event and retires old data into a history file in a form useful for event reconstruction and evaluation. A number of related areas of investigation are suggested for future research. (Author)

50DTIC ADA462366: Transaction Processing Using An Untrusted Scheduler In A Multilevel Database With Replicated Architecture

By

Replicated architecture has been proposed as a way to obtain acceptable performance in a multilevel secure database system. This architecture contains a separate database for each security level such that each contains replicated data from lower security classes. The consistency of the values of replicated data items must be maintained without unnecessarily interfering with concurrency of database operations. This paper provides a protocol to do this that is secure, since it is free of covert channels, and also ensures one-copy serializability of executing transactions. The protocol can be implemented with untrusted processes for both concurrency and recovery.
