This paper outlines a general philosophy and framework for the specification of a data model. Extracts from scenarios that have been developed for specification of several well-known data models (e.g., DBTG, relational, TDMS) are given and discussed. These extracts are preliminary and incomplete, but they are used to illustrate the feasibility of the Data Model Processor Approach. The scenarios are intended for implementation of an augmented positional processor that will be able to support different data models and, through transformation, serve in defining and testing new DBMS standards. The Boston College Institute for Scientific Research (ISR) has conducted innovative research using tools, analysis techniques, and database development to support the Air Force Research Laboratory s (AFRL) nuclear monitoring program. The innovative research objectives of this task have been directed toward applying waveform modeling techniques to earthquakes and explosions at locations of interest to the community where both teleseismic and regional waveform data are available. Moderate to large earthquake sources provide high resolution ground truth information for regional studies of earthquake and explosion phenomenology. Some of our major efforts included the New England Damage Experiment where the question of shear wave generation mechanisms for explosive sources was addressed. Another major effort included the determination of attenuation parameters in La Paz, Bolivia for improved seismic phase identification.

It is completed manually using standardized procedures and controls to ensure responsiveness in highly dynamic situations. We present a complex data handling system for the COMPASS tokamak, operated by IPP ASCR Prague, Czech Republic [1]. The system, called CDB (Compass DataBase), integrates different data sources as an assortment of data acquisition hardware and software from different vendors is used. Based on widely available open source technologies wherever possible, CDB is vendor and platform independent and it can be easily scaled and distributed. The data is directly stored and retrieved using a standard NAS (Network Attached Storage), hence independent of the particular technology; the description of the data (the metadata) is recorded in a relational database. Database structure is general and enables the inclusion of multi-dimensional data signals in multiple revisions (no data is overwritten). This design is inherently distributed as the work is off-loaded to the clients. Both NAS and database can be implemented and optimized for fast local access as well as secure remote access. CDB is implemented in Python language; bindings for Java, C/C++, IDL and Matlab are provided. Independent data acquisitions systems as well as nodes managed by FireSignal [2] are all integrated using CDB. An automated data post-processing server is a part of CDB. Based on dependency rules, the server executes, in parallel if possible, prescribed post-processing tasks.

This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) describes coupling of the Great Lakes Coastal Forecasting System (GLCFS) database to WaveNet, the first module of MetOcnDat (Meteorological and Oceanographic Data or Metocean data) management and analysis system. This Part 4 in the WaveNet technical note series provides a step-by-step procedure for users to access, process, and analyze wave and wind data from the GLCFS database, which is part of the Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS) data portal.

This report presents the results of research on the allocation of binary cartesian product database files across several stores (such as disks) which are accessible in parallel so that the average time required to perform the retrieval (by using several parallel accesses) of all buckets specified by a partial-match query is objective of constructing efficient packings of Hamming spheres in hypercubes. The viewpoint of binary cartesian product file allocation thus produced allowed in our research the creation of allocations for two particular sizes of the set of stores such that the average processing time for partial-match queries was smaller than that of the best allocation technique found in the literature for these same two cases. It also provides a framework in which good allocations for other particular sizes of the set of stores, and possibly for general sets of stores, might be found.

Volume holographic memories combine high storage capacity, massive transfer rates, and the ability to associatively search the entire data set in a highly parallel way. Database applications can benefit greatly from these characteristics. The goal of this research was to evaluate the capability, of volume holographic storage to perform associative recall on binary data of an actual database and, thus, operate successfully in a database management environment. An angularly multiplexed volume holographic database system (VHDS) was developed and used for storing and searching alphanumeric database records and image data. VHDS operates in three modes: a) the recording mode, b) the addressed-based retrieval mode, and c) the content-based retrieval mode. In the latter mode, the LiNbO3 crystal is illuminated by a search pattern and a reference beam profile is reconstructed with peaks pointing to the addresses of pages that contain the search pattern. These pages can be retrieved later with the system operating in the addressed-based retrieval mode. VHDS has operated in all three modes. Several hundreds of pages of binary data have been recorded and good associative recall with search arguments as small as 1/30th of a page has been demonstrated. A first order analysis of the factors that affect the quality of the reconstructed reference beam profile has been completed. Both digital and analog data can be combined in the same recording and searching is possible with either data type. This functionality can be very useful in multimedia database management systems and a whole array of applications that use different types of data.

This thesis reports the client server architecture choices (2- tier versus 3 tier) and details the supporting web server and database server choices, It then presents a prototype of a web-based database system to speed and simplify tracking of academic and personal information on naval officers attending graduate school in another country. The result will be better manpower data for naval headquarter with fewer errors at the lower cost, The difficulties implementing client server systems are discussed along with suggestions for better management of information technology,

This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) describes coupling of the WAVEWATCH III (WW3) database to WaveNet, the first module of MetOcnDat (Meteorological and Oceanographic Data or Metocean data) management and analysis system. This Part 5 technical note in the WaveNet series provides a step-by-step procedure for users to access, process, and analyze wave and wind data from the WW3 database. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) coastal modeling and planning missions require metocean data (e.g., winds, waves, tides, water levels). WaveNet is a web-based graphical-user-interface (GUI) data management tool that allows users to access, process, and analyze wave and wind data from different data sources. This GUI provides a combination of analysis and graphical tools to minimize the complexity and uncertainty in data processing for project needs. It allows users to check status of data processing, check the availability of data, and analyze quality and consistency of data. Users can extract, download, analyze, and prepare input files for numerical wave models and obtain tabular and graphical information for project planning and reporting and further analysis. Four previous companion CHETNs (Wilson et al. 2012; Demirbilek et al. 2013, 2014a, 2014b) provide descriptions and demonstrations of the WaveNet application to wave databases most frequently used in the United States. These earlier User s Guides describe details of the utility of WaveNet with the following databases: Part 1 for the National Data Buoy Center (NDBC); Part 2 for the Wave Information Study (WIS); Part 3 for the Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP); and Part 4 for the Great Lakes Observing System/Coastal Forecasting System (GLOS/GLCFS). Using step-by-step instructions, this Part 5 guide describes how to access the WW3 database using WaveNet.

Replicated architecture has been proposed as a way to obtain acceptable performance in a multilevel secure database system. This architecture contains a separate database for each security level such that each contains replicated data from lower security classes. The consistency of the values of replicated data items must be maintained without unnecessarily interfering with concurrency of database operations. This paper provides a protocol to do this that is secure, since it is free of covert channels, and also ensures one-copy serializability of executing transactions. The protocol can be implemented with untrusted processes for both concurrency and recovery.

We demonstrate the newly developed resource for exoplanet researchers - The Exoplanet Transit Database. This database is designed to be a web application and it is open for any exoplanet observer. It came on-line in September 2008. The ETD consists of three individual sections. One serves for predictions of the transits, the second one for processing and uploading new data from the observers. We use a simple analytical model of the transit to calculate the central time of transit, its duration and the depth of the transit. These values are then plotted into the observed - computed diagrams (O-C), that represent the last part of the application.

Methods and apparatus for providing a multi-tier object-relational database architecture are disclosed. In one illustrative embodiment of the present invention, a multi-tier database architecture comprises an object-relational database engine as a top tier, one or more domain-specific extension modules as a bottom tier, and one or more universal extension modules as a middle tier. The individual extension modules of the bottom tier operationally connect with the one or more universal extension modules which, themselves, operationally connect with the database engine. The domain-specific extension modules preferably provide such functions as search, index, and retrieval services of images, video, audio, time series, web pages, text, XML, spatial data, etc. The domain-specific extension modules may include one or more IBM DB2 extenders, Oracle data cartridges and/or Informix datablades, although other domain-specific extension modules may be used.

DBC is a specialized back-end computer which is capable of managing database of 10 to the 10th power bytes in size and supporting known data models such as relational, network, hierarchical and attribute-based. This report deals with the post processing functions of DBC. A description of some known methods for performing natural and implicit joins is first given. It then goes on to show how both natural and implicit joins are performed by the post processor (PP) of DBC utilizing the parallelism of PP. This report show that the algorithm for performing joins is of O(N) time, where N is the number of records to be joined. Algorithms necessary for performing set functions such as maxima, minima, average, sum and count are given. The time complexities of these algorithms are also calculated. Finally, it is shown how to implement the set inclusion operator. Given a set of values for a particular attribute and a number of retrieved records, this operator can select those records whose values for the attribute are the values in the set.

(2012) provided a detailed description of WaveNet in the Part 1 companion CHETN and demonstrated the utility of WaveNet for National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) wave data. WaveNet is a web-based Graphical-User-Interface (GUI) data management tool that allows users to access, process and analyze wave and wind data from different metocean data sources. TideNet is the next addition to the MetOcnDat system that will provide access and similar functionality for water level and current data. Once the user identifies a data need for a time interval, WaveNet performs data processing on-the-fly to check the availability, quality and consistency of data. It allows users to extract data to download, analyze and prepare input files for numerical wave models, and provides tabular and graphical information for project planning and design reports. WaveNet addresses a basic need of the Corps coastal modeling and planning missions by acquiring metocean data and providing analysis methods to minimize the complexity and uncertainty involved in data processing. This CHETN provides a guide for users to access the WIS database using WaveNet and step-by-step instructions that demonstrate processing and analysis of WIS data for project planning, design and evaluation studies, as well as the generation of input files for numerical wave models.

This contents of this draft copy include: how to log into the SPDB (Science Processing DataBase); how to navigate through menus; how to use ESC keys; how to get help; and how to quit the program. The Science Processing Database is an interactive, on-line system that provides updated information about Earth Observing System Project, including instruments, investigators, output data products, input requirements, retrieval algorithms, and VO datasets archived at DAAC's.

Multivariate analysis software capabilities were used for automated data processing. The bacterial identification by the BSPS-MS is based on Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of various bacterial proteins followed by their correlation with in-house database constructed from several bacteria of interest using our in-house ProMAPDB software. The identification of bacteria using ProMAPDB was validated using standard proteins analyzed by the BSPS-MS under various conditions. The results show that BSPS analysis was reproducible and sensitive at 1000 cfu/mL.

Now the asynchronous Python is getting better by increasing third party packages. In this talk I'll cover the explanation about asynchronous DB operations in Python and then hands-off to show the results of using the asynchronous code compare with the synchronous one. The main objective of this research was to explore and refine methods for detailed phonetic labeling (English or Russian) and character level labeling (Mandarin). Much of the work involved new front end signal processing methods designed to improve acoustic phonetic representations for speech. This resulted in recognition rates for TIMIT (English) of 74%, among the highest reported in the literature. A complete character recognition system for Mandarin was developed and tested. Character recognition rates as high as 88% were obtained, using an approximately 40 training databases. For the case of Russian, a system for automatically converting Russian to morphemes, a kind of base syllable, was created and tested. A suite of tools for front end processing, automatic forced alignment, and a complete automatic recognition system are described.

However, natural language is essentially a way of encoding information and knowledge. Thus, the focus should be on what is encoded and how it is encoded. In line with this, we suggest a database-based approach for natural language processing that emulates the encoding of information and knowledge to build models.
