10Analysis, Design And Implementation Of A Database Management System For Generating Technical/medical Reports By Chiropractors
By Bolling, Rodney A.
A medical center specializing in chiropractic care is burdened with the enormous task of managing numerous patient's records, preparing error free billing statements, and writing official business/medical. This task requires increased attention of staff personnel. The burden of paper file management could be lessened through automation of record keeping, while increasing accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness. Valuable time for the providers and secretary could be saved through elimination of excessive paperwork which they are required to prepare. Based on the staff requirements, this thesis designs and implements a database management system. The primary objective is to automate the current manual system to allow providers to generate official medical reports. In addition to, this system will also store, sort, and compare data relevant to all patients while minimizing the need to maintain hard copy files. The Chiro Pro 97 (CP97) Database system is designed using Microsoft Access 97

11DTIC ADA267413: Design And Implementation Of An Object-Oriented Interface For The Multi- Model/Multi-Lingual Database System
By Defense Technical Information Center
Database designs in today's information-intensive environment, Challenge the database-system user to adhere to strict and somewhat archaic means, i.e., traditional data models and their data languages, of expressing their database applications. In light of these requirements, the user must purchase the new database system that supports the latest data model and its data language. We design and implement a comprehensive data-model-and-data- language interface which is a simple and yet effective alternative to the costly and cumbersome standard method of purchasing o developing a new database system. Our solution is two-fold. First, we use the concept of a data-model-and-data language interface to an existing database system. This not only eliminates the costs associated with building a arate, stand-alone database system to support each new data model and its language, but also allows for resource consolidation and data duplication elimination. Second, using the data-model-and-data-language interface concept, we design and implement an object-oriented-data-model-and- data-language interface for the multimodel/multilingual database system.

12DTIC ADA244180: Design And Implementation Of A Graphical User Interface And Database Management System For The Saber Wargame
By Defense Technical Information Center
Saber is a theater level, multi-sided, airpower employment computerized wargame that can be programmed to simulate any combat scenario. The model simulates theater level combat between air and land forces, and takes into account the effects of logistics, resupply, and both theater nuclear and chemical warfare. The major objective of the Saber model is to provide a suitable educational platform to allow users to apply basic, tactical employment concepts to multiple combat units, each having a specialized mission, and incorporating every branch of the armed services. This thesis documents a graphical user interface and data management system that has been developed to execute the Saber theater level wargame simulation. It is a continuation of two previous efforts, and is one component of three thesis efforts designed to develop an integrated, on-line simulation of the Saber theater-level wargame.

13DTIC ADA282955: Design And Implementation Of A Prototype Database For Part Information To Support The MK92 Fire Control System Maintenance Advisor Expert System
By Defense Technical Information Center
The MK92 Fire Control System (FCS) is the heart of shipboard weapon systems found aboard U. S. Oliver Hazard Perry class FFGs. This system, based on 1970's technology, frequently requires extensive troubleshooting and supplemental shore-base support. A maintenance advisor expert system is being developed to assist shipboard technicians in correctly diagnosing system faults, providing expert advice concerning part replacement or further tests which should be made. Additional information provided by the expert system includes documentation references, alternate location for a part, and part numbers. Storing such information in a relational database that communicates with the expert system would greatly improve its maintainability, modifiability, and accuracy. This thesis addresses the design and implementation of a database to support the MK92 MOD 2 FCS Maintenance Advisor Expert System using Microsoft Access(TM). This database includes such functions as part and replacement information, database maintenance, and expert system support. Research revealed that the currently supported Windows(TM) interprogram communications mechanism of Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), as supported by the current versions of Access and Softsell Adept(TM), will not adequately support the database to expert system interface requirements. Suggestions for alternative interface solutions are provided in the thesis. Database, Expert system, MK92 MOD 2 Fire control system, Database design and implementation, Database application.

17Analysis, Design, And Implementation Of A Database Management System For The Naval Postgraduate School Alumni Association.
By Kohlheim, Mark Todd
The Naval Postgraduate School Alumni Association is a professional group consisting of graduates from the Postgraduate School. The Alumni Association is a self supporting entity that is not part of the administrative structure of the school. The Alumni Association supports itself through membership fees paid by graduates who join the association. The administrative work required to run the association is accomplished through a part-time employee and volunteers. Until recently, the Alumni Association was unorganized and lacked a firm plan of action to establish itself with the School's graduates and to increase its membership base. Records of graduates were located in various locations and in different formats which made tracking and contacting alumni an extremely time consuming operation. This thesis develops a database management system for the Naval Postgraduate School Alumni Association. This system provides a standardized format for storing data and tracking alumni. It also performs the time consuming accounting and billing functions associated with the Association's membership management. This thesis provides an outline covering the Alumni Association's system requirements analysis and design methodology. The system was written using dBASE IV, version 1.1.

18Analysis, Design, And Implementation Of A Database Management System For The CINCPACFLT PEB
By Encinias, Tony R.
The Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet Propulsion Examining Board (CINCPACFLT PEB) is a professional group of naval officers experienced in engineering readiness. This group of naval officers conducts examinations to assess the engineering readiness of the Pacific Fleet. There are two classes of examinations conducted by the PEB. The Operational Propulsion Plant Examination (OPPE) assesses the engineering readiness when the ship is underway. The Light Off Examination (LOE) assesses the engineering readiness after a ship's propulsion plant has been secured, for example overhauls, in excess of ninety days. The examination data is then collected in the exam summary worksheet and entered into the database. The current database system uses the dBASE IV Plus database management system (DBMS) software and is constructed as a flat file system. Redundant data, inaccuracies, and inefficiencies are prevalent throughout the current system. The purpose of this thesis is to design a relational database (Propulsion Examining Board Database System (PEBDS)), implement and replace the current system, and provide a user friendly graphical user interface (GUI). The PEBDS and the GUl are constructed using Paradox for Windows Version 4.5 DBMS software.

19The Design And Implementation Of A Functional Interface For The Attribute-based Multi-lingual Database System.
By Mack, Sybil B.
Traditionally, the design and implementation of a conventional database system begins with the selection of a data model, followed by the specification of a model-based data language. Hence, the database system is restricted to a single data model and a specific data language. One alternative to this traditional approach to database-system development is the multi-lingual database system (MLDS). This alternative approach affords the user the ability to access and manage a large collection of databases, via several data models and their corresponding data languages, without the aforementioned limitations. This thesis presents a methodology for supporting the Functional Data Model and the Data Language DAPLEX for the MLDS. Specifically, we design an interface which translates DAPLEX data language calls into attribute-based data language (ABDL) requests. A description of the software engineering aspects of the implementation and an overview of the modules which comprise our DAPLEX language interface are provided.

22Design And Implementation Of A NATOPS Qualification Database Management System For Naval Aviation Safety Officers
By Martin, Terryll R.
The VFA-125 Safety Office located at NAS Lemoore is burdened with the enormous administrative responsibility of managing the NATOPS qualifications for over 200 pilots and passengers. During this period of military downsizing and operational funding cuts, this responsibility will require the increased attention of a smaller staff with a limited budget. The burden of paper file management could be eased through the introduction of automated record keeping while simultaneously increasing accuracy and efficiency. The potential for non-qualified personnel to fly squadron aircraft could be eliminated. Based on VFA-125 Safety Office requirements, this thesis designs and implements a database management system. The primary objective is to automate the currently utilized manual NATOPS filing system to allow the squadron Safety Officer immediate access to all NATOPS-related pilot qualification data. This system will store, sort and compare data relevant to all squadron pilots while minimizing the time spent verifying the previously-used manual filing system. Additionally, the staff will be able to query reports and generate memoranda with minimal effort. The system is also analyzed to determine possible enhancements in the future. The Aviation Safety Database System is designed using dBASE III Plus and dBASE for Windows 5.0.

25Design And Implementation Of A Prototype Database For The Analysis Of Student Opinion Forms For The Administrative Sciences Department
By Cecconi, Richard C.
The Naval Postgraduate School currently collects and disseminates the data from Student Opinion Forms (SOF) on a quarterly basis. After all required SOF reports are routed to the academic departments and the instructors, the data is archived on magnetic tape. Until recently, there was no method of retrieving this data for use in classroom environment research or for instructor evaluation purposes. This thesis develops a prototype database for the analysis of Student Opinion Forms (SOFA) for the Administrative Sciences Department using FOCUS database management system. It will be used to retrieve SOF data and to produce reports and graphics which will assist the chairman, his representatives, and department researchers in examining the historical data relating to courses, curricula or instructors. SOFA will greatly assist department personnel in making reasonable inferences regarding instructor performance, classroom environment, student curriculum and other factors which may be affecting the learning environment.

29DTIC ADA077101: The Design And Implementation Of A Database Management System Using Abstract Data Type.
By Defense Technical Information Center
The design, implementation, and performance analysis of a database management system implemented using abstract data types are presented. The use of abstract data types as an implementation tool is shown to have several significant advantages over current implementation techniques. First, by using a combination of abstract data types and generic procedures to structure the design of a database system, the resulting software will be more reliable. Also, by employing a programming language which supports specification and verification of abstract data types, we can Guarantee data imdependence. Finally, we demonstrate that the application of abstract data types permits the elimination of run-time interpretation of the schema and subschema such as in IBM's IMS, Univac's DMS110, and INGRES. Instead, the data manipulation routines, which are shown to be examples of generic procedures, are implemented as parameterized calls to the procedures bound to the instances of the three abstract data types used to represent the logical structure of the database. 30DTIC ADA245589: Design And Implementation Of Visual Interface To Database
By Defense Technical Information Center
Traditional approaches to database system design and implementation involve text-oriented data access with their inherent lack of modularity, extensibility and modifiability. An alternative to this traditional approach is using visual interface for the design and implementation of databases. This alternative approach involves using software development tools (toolkits) to ensure modularity, extensibility and modifiability. To study the effectiveness of using visual interfaces, we have designed and implemented a sample application using KnowledgePro(Windows), a tool for rapid application development under Windows.

31DTIC ADA257630: Faculty Workload Database System (FWDS) For The Administrative Sciences Department: Analysis, Design, And Implementation
By Defense Technical Information Center
The Administrative Sciences (AS) Department of the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) has a very large database containing information regarding faculty activity in the areas of course instruction; thesis development, ongoing research, and academic service. Management of this information was disjointed and required considerable time and energy, and could be more efficiently handled with a software application. Subsequently, the choice was made to develop a database application that effectively manages these facets of the AS Department faculty workload. This thesis develops and implements the Faculty Workload Database System (FWDS) to support the AS Department. This thesis provides an in- depth discussion of the entire software application analysis, design, and implementation process. The system was produced using dBase IV, version 1.1 and will transition to operational status during FY 93.

By Defense Technical Information Center
The Chiro Pro 97 (CP97) Database system is designed using Microsoft Access 97.

38Design And Implementation Of A Database Management System For A Navy Medical Administrative Unit
By Bianchi, Kevin Albert.
The Navy Medical Administrative Unit (NMAU) for the Monterey Peninsula has a challenging mission which encompasses many administrative tasks. Medical readiness and occupational health requirements are tracked for all Navy and Marine Corps personnel in the region. In order to fulfill their mission satisfactorily, it was necessary for NMAU to get an automated database management system. The Flight Surgeon at the Naval Postgraduate School works very closely with NMAU. The Flight Surgeon's administrative responsibilities would also benefit from a database system. Based on the requirements for NMAU a database system was designed and implemented in their clinic. Based on the Flight Surgeon's requirements the data base system was further analyzed in order to assist future upgrades that would employ the flight surgeon's requirements. The primary objective, however, was to get a system on line for NMAU that would enable them to effectively and efficiently execute their mission. The Navy Medical Administrative Unit Database System (NMAUDS 1.0) was the result of the previously described endeavors; it was written in dBASE IV version 1.5.

39Database Design And Implementation For USMC Manpower Retention Survey
By Smith, Horace Wayde
MCERC is a database design and implementation to support the survey instruments for the USMC Exit and Retention Censuses, which are administered over the Internet. The Retention Census is a longitudinal survey administered annually to all Marines. A review of commercially available survey software revealed a lack of support for longitudinal surveys. A semantic object model for survey instruments is developed that relates them to the response data they collect. The resultant database schema facilitates version management of survey instruments over their life cycle. The design supports the longitudinal aspect of the USMC Censuses by allowing the tracking of the instruments and response data over time. A relational model of the database design is prepared and implemented in Access (TM). A user interface is designed using Visual Basic, which integrates Cognos powerplay (TM) into the system for analysis of the data. The interface includes the capability to convert raw data into a matrix for analysis. Issues of database administration are discussed as they relate to scaling the system from a stand alone to a multiple user environment

42DTIC ADA080395: The Design And Implementation Of A Pedagogical Relational Database System.
By Defense Technical Information Center
A relational database system was designed with the goal of obtaining as near optimal behavior from the system as possible. In addition, the database was to be implemented as a general purpose system but with specific provisions for its use as a pedagogical tool for teaching database management and manipulation. The advantages and disadvantages of relational systems were explored, and based on a certain criteria a relational algebra was chosen as the basis for the data manipulation and definition language. With this background, a top-down structured design of the system was completed. Techniques used to manage data entry; i.e., the user interface, and techniques to transform those inputs in order to optimize their execution were developed and implemented.

44DTIC ADA289656: Analysis, Design And Implementation Of A Database System For The Systems Management Curriculum Office.
By Defense Technical Information Center
The Systems Management Curricular Office at the Naval Postgraduate School is burdened with the enormous administrative task of managing files for over 500 students. In a time of drastic military downsizing and funding cuts, this task will require more work of a smaller staff with less money. The burden of paper management could be lessened through automation of record keeping, while increasing efficiency and effectiveness. Valuable time for the students could be saved through elimination of excessive paperwork which they were required to prepare. Based on requirements from the Systems Management Curricular Office, this thesis designs and implements a database management system. The primary objective is to allow the incoming class of students to enroll using this system instead of traditional paper forms, enabling the staff to focus on more non-administrative tasks. This system will store, sort and compare data relevant to all students while minimizing the need to maintain hardcopy files. Additionally, the staff will be able to query reports and generate letters with minimal effort. The system is also analyzed to determine possible enhancements that could be added in the future. The Systems Management Database Systems (SMDS) is designed using Borland's PARADOX version 4.0. (AN)

46The Design And Implementation Of An Object-oriented Interface For The Multimodel/multilingual Database System
By Karlidere, Turgay and Moore, John William.

50The Design And Implementation Of Pedagogical Software For Multi-backend/multi-lingual Database System.
By Little, Craig W.
Traditionally, courses in database systems do not use pedagogical software for the purpose of instructing the database systems, despite the progress made in modem database architecture. In this thesis, we present a working document to assist in the instruction of a new database system, the Multi-Backend Database System (MBDS)-and the Multi-Lingual Database System (MLDS). As the course of instruction describes the creation and manipulation of each language, this pedagogical aid will demonstrate, utilizing the live database system, the procedures and methods learned in class.
