Three people were killed in a shoot-out with Federal Security Service (FSB) officers and Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) officers in the Kumtorkalinsky District of Dagestan on Tuesday night. The three individuals were travelling in a car and had refused to stop when law enforcement authorities attempted to pull them over to check their identification documents. The people inside the car then opened fire on the officers and all three were eventually killed in a heavy exchange of fire.  No other injuries or deaths were reported.

The article is devoted to linguoculturological description of woman's image in the proverbial worldview of the Dagestan languages. The analysis of proverbial expressions revealed androcentric bias of the Dagestan paroemiological worldview where woman, as a rule, appears for an object: mainly for mother, daughter, bride, and wife/mistress. The proverbs representing the image of mother have uniquely positive connotation, while the image of stepmother is traditionally laden with negative context. One of the most important components of the gender worldview is marriage. The role and position of woman in family is represented especially eloquently. Image of wife is one of the most frequent female proverbial images. In the proverbs and sayings a series of warnings and recommendations regarding marriage are represented, addressed mostly to man, which shows the androgenic character of the Dagestan language worldview. Zoomorphic images in the Dagestan culture may have gender compound. The concept of woman, actualized by the Dagestan proverbial units is of a contradictory and inhomogeneous nature. Some attributes represent the moral system and social grounds of patriarchal society, while the other are connected with the fair side of the female origin as a source of life. The woman's image is multifaceted and expresses opposite connotations which may be explained by the enigma of womanhood and its ambiguous interpretation in the national linguistic views of the world.

From the Abstract: "As a sacral space, mountains in Dagestan are traditionally considered to be the abode of gods and demons. Rainmaking rituals and folk medical procedures are performed on the mountain sites. On the tops of mountains, their slopes and passes there are many buildings which were later transformed into Muslim places of worship. The paper describes some cases of orolatry [worship of mountains] among the peoples of Dagestan, based on the relevant sources and personal field materials."

In what many have highlighted as a blatant act of antisemitism, an angry mob looking for Israelis and Jewish passengers overran an airport in Russia’s Caucasus Republic of Dagestan on Sunday night, after rumors spread that a flight was arriving from Israel. Members of the mob could be seen in videos holding signs reading “Child killers have no place in Dagestan", while dozens of others chanted "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest). The mob also broke through doors and barriers, with some even running onto the runway. No Israelis were injured. The incident was reportedly spurred by Israel's current war on Gaza, which has so far killed over 8,500 Palestinians. A statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said: "Israel expects the Russian authorities to protect all Israeli citizens and all Jews, and to act decisively against the rioters and against incitement to violence against Jews and Israelis." Russian President Vladimir Putin placed blame on the incident on Western and Ukrainian "spies". Although part of the Russian Federation, which is majority Orthodox Christian, the population of Dagestan on its own, like neighbouring Chechnya, is majority Muslim.

🏗 Specialists of Military Construction Complex continue to build facilities of new deployment site for ships of Caspian Flotilla in Republic of Dagestan Deputy Russian Defence Minister Timur Ivanov inspected the progress of construction works during his working visit to the Southern MD’s troops. Military builders are creating a whole complex of new hydraulic structures, including the Northern and Southern barrier breakwaters with a total length of almost three kilometres, berthing and coastal infrastructure. In total, the large-scale project envisages the construction of 17 berths, three of which are floating. In 2023, specialists built four new berths, and already in February this year, a hydraulic launch for ships to enter the water was put into operation. A large military hospital for 150 beds is also under construction in Makhachkala. The total construction area of the new hospital complex is more than 27 thousand square metres. The hospital will be equipped with modern medical equipment and will be delivered on a turnkey basis. Polyclinic building, treatment and diagnostic block, ward module, infectious disease department, two helipads, canteen, transformer substation and other auxiliary facilities are being erected. Work is being carried out in all buildings simultaneously. On-site heating and gas supply utilities have been laid, and finishing of the premises is underway.
