This study is part of the StigmaPrime Project. It aims at examining effects of manipulation of continuum beliefs on social perception and self-perception.

Note: This registration is identical to our earlier registration (https://osf.io/ev4zx) barring the fact that we removed PDFs of questionnaires (and any references to them) due to potential copyright concerns. Psychologists are becoming increasingly interested in studying memories for repeated events as a bridge between 'episodic' memory (i.e., memory for specific events localized in time and place) and 'semantic' memory (i.e., memory for general facts and information). However, the relative contribution of episodic and semantic memory in recalls of repeated events has yet to be determined: do repeated events rely more on episodic memory or semantic memory? Moreover, do different repeated events utilize these forms of memory to different degrees? Prior experimental research has shown that children are more accurate in their recall of specific episodes of repeated events when the repeated events are low in similarity. Conversely, when episodes of repeated events are high in similarity, children tend to recall more details about the 'gist' of the event or, in other words, the details that are fixed across episodes (Danby et al., 2019). Do recalls of repeated events in adults follow a similar pattern, such that repeated events lower in similarity utilize more episodic memory and repeated events high in similarity utilize more semantic memory? Here, the “similarity” of an event refers to a continuum from low-similarity (where each episode of a repeated event is very different) to high-similarity (where each episode of a repeated event is very similar). We present a non-perturbative study of the lambda phi**4 model on a non-commutative plane. The lattice regularised form can be mapped onto a Hermitian matrix model, which enables Monte Carlo simulations. Numerical data reveal the phase diagram; at large lambda it contains a "striped phase", which is absent in the commutative case. We explore the question whether or not this phenomenon persists in a Double Scaling Limit (DSL), which extrapolates simultaneously to the continuum and to infinite volume, at a fixed non-commutativity parameter. To this end, we introduce a dimensional lattice spacing based on the decay of the correlation function. Our results provide evidence for the existence of a striped phase even in the DSL, which implies the spontaneous breaking of translation symmetry. Due to the non-locality of this model, this does not contradict the Mermin-Wagner Theorem.

This scoping review aims to identify community-based interventions that promote Advance Care Planning (ACP) engagement in older adults, explore the use of social ecological concepts in intervention design and implementation, and examine outcome indicators of successful ACP. Given the aging population and the importance of involving older adults in ACP, community-based approaches leveraging social ecological frameworks may enhance engagement more effectively than individual-level strategies. The review includes studies on adults aged 55 and older in community settings, excluding hospitalized patients. A systematic search will synthesize both qualitative and quantitative data. Our protocol was drafted following the Joanna Brigg’s Institute guidelines.

The construction of a continuum limit for the dynamics of loop quantum gravity is unavoidable to complete the theory. We explain that such a construction is equivalent to obtaining the continuum physical Hilbert space, which encodes the solutions of the theory. We present iterative coarse graining methods to construct physical states in a truncation scheme and explain in which sense this scheme represents a renormalization flow. We comment on the role of diffeomorphism symmetry as an indicator for the continuum limit.

Although interdisciplinary teaching has long been supported as a pedagogical practice, little research has looked closely at interdisciplinary teaching. A literature review was undertaken, therefore, to articulate the current theoretical understanding of interdisciplinary education and to examine how it influences practice in middle and high schools. Four questions were considered: What is interdisciplinary education?; How do the disciplines interrelate in practice?; What facilitating and/or problematizing factors impact interdisciplinary instruction?; and What are its effects upon students, teachers, and the school environment? A broad range of articles on interdisciplinary programs in grades 5 through 12 were examined, under the following headings: (1) language and vocabulary associated with interdisciplinary education; (2) types of disciplinary combinations described in the literature; (3) what actually happens in classrooms using interdisciplinary approaches; (4) factors that facilitate interdisciplinary programs; and (5) influence of interdisciplinary programs on teachers and students. For the review's purposes, an interdisciplinary continuum is composed of three ways of knowing that represent stages of disciplinary blending. Knowledge moves from being correlated (stage one) to being shared (stage two) to being reconstructed (stage three) along a continuum in which the disciplines move from being distinct and separate, to being combined with boundaries preserved, to being blended until disciplinary distinctions are no longer evident. Findings suggest that issues in literacy, curriculum, assessment, and institutional support are all of primary importance in effective interdisciplinary programs. Prepared largely by representatives of Pilot Career Motivation programs from nine Ohio school districts during a summer workshop and subject to correction, revisions, and additions by teachers, this curriculum guide is intended to assist the elementary teacher in implementing a career motivation program, which is the first phase of a 3-phase career development program and stresses the goals of awareness, appreciation, and motivation. Divided into three color-coded sections by grade level (K-2, 3-4, and 5-6), topics and objectives have been developed for three of the seven broad career development areas, including The Individual and His Environments, World of Work, and Self. Four additional areas will be developed. Each major career area is comprised of a series of units containing the following components: (1) developmental objectives for awareness, appreciation, and motivation levels, (2) behavioral objectives for cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, (3) activities which can be classified into levels (vicarious, simulated, and actual experience), integrated into the curriculum, or identified as student units (independent, small group, or class), (4) sample lesson plans, (5) a coding grid which provides a reference to the suggested activities numbered in the units. The spectrum of N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, calculated on the lattice, is presented. The masses have been determined on three different lattice spacings and extrapolated towards vanishing gluino mass. We present the extrapolation to the continuum limit which is consistent with the formation of degenerate supermultiplets.

The Woods-Saxon-Strutinsky method (the microscopic-macroscopic method) combined with Kruppa's prescription for positive energy levels, which is necessary to treat neutron rich nuclei, is studied to clarify the reason for its success and to propose improvements for its shortcomings. The reason why the plateau condition is met for the Nilsson model but not for the Woods-Saxon model is understood in a new interpretation of the Strutinsky smoothing procedure as a low-pass filter. Essential features of Kruppa's level density is extracted in terms of the Thomas-Fermi approximation modified to describe spectra obtained from diagonalization in truncated oscillator bases. A method is proposed which weakens the dependence on the smoothing width by applying the Strutinsky smoothing only to the deviations from a reference level density. The BCS equations are modified for the Kruppa's spectrum, which is necessary to treat the pairing correlation properly in the presence of continuum. The potential depth is adjusted for the consistency between the microscopic and macroscopic Fermi energies. It is shown, with these improvements, that the microscopic-macroscopic method is now capable to reliably calculate binding energies of nuclei far from stability.

We consider viscous, heat conducting mixtures of molecularly miscible chemical species forming a fluid in which the constituents can undergo chemical reactions. Assuming a common temperature for all components, we derive a closed system of partial mass and partial momentum balances plus a mixture balance of internal energy. This is achieved by careful exploitation of the entropy principle and requires appropriate definitions of absolute temperature and chemical potentials, based on an adequate definition of thermal energy excluding diffusive contributions. The resulting interaction forces split into a thermo-mechanical and a chemical part, where the former turns out to be symmetric in case of binary interactions. For chemically reacting systems and as a new result, the chemical interaction force is a contribution being non-symmetric outside of chemical equilibrium. The theory also provides a rigorous derivation of the so-called generalized thermodynamic driving forces, avoiding the use of approximate solutions to the Boltzmann equations. Moreover, using an appropriately extended version of the entropy principle and introducing cross-effects already before closure as entropy invariant couplings between principal dissipative mechanisms, the Onsager symmetry relations become a strict consequence. With a classification of the factors in the binary products of the entropy production according to their parity--instead of the classical partition into so-called fluxes and driving forces--the apparent anti-symmetry of certain couplings is thereby also revealed. If the diffusion velocities are small compared to the speed of sound, the Maxwell-Stefan equations follow in the case without chemistry, thereby neglecting wave phenomena in the diffusive motion. The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks were a major catalyst for intelligence reform in the United States. Since this date, most government agencies have strived to evolve and advance in this capacity. One such way has been through the development of multi-agency, multi-disciplinary intelligence centers, such as the National Counterterrorism Center, the Interagency Threat Assessment and Coordination Group, and the 72 state and major urban area fusion centers established throughout the nation. However, despite the changes that have occurred throughout the U.S. intelligence and law enforcement communities, significant issues still remain that are impeding the creation and flow of actionable intelligence to support domestic counterterrorism efforts. This has been identified from research conducted on numerous sources. Several policy, technological, cultural and political challenges exist, all contributing to the less-than-perfect nature of the United States' existing counterterrorism framework. This thesis aims to identify potential solutions that leverage existing intelligence operations to promote an intelligence-sharing continuum across all tiers of U.S. government. The author provides an analysis of specific, priority issues that require fixing within our nation's counterterrorism system, and provides evidence-based recommendations to improve the capability and value of existing intelligence support structures and further-develop the desired intelligence-sharing continuum.

This program is to develop an analytic method for reducing SUMS data for the determination of the undisturbed atmosphere conditions ahead of the shuttle along its descending trajectory. It is divided into an internal flow problem, an external flow problem and their matching conditions. Since the existing method of Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) failed completely for the internal flow problem, the emphasis is on the internal flow of a highly non-equilibrium, rarefied air through a short tube of a diameter much less than the gaseous mean free path. A two fluid model analysis of this internal flow problem has been developed and studied with typical results illustrated. A computer program for such an analysis and a technical paper published in Lecture Notes in Physics No. 323 (1989) are included as Appendices 3 and 4. A proposal for in situ determination of the surface accommodation coefficients sigma sub t and sigma e is included in Appendix 5 because of their importance in quantitative data reduction. A two fluid formulation for the external flow problem is included as Appendix 6 and a review article for AIAA on Hypersonic propulsion, much dependent on ambient atmospheric density, is also included as Appendix 7.

Understanding the spontaneous emergence of dislocation patterns during plastic deformation is a long standing challenge in dislocation theory. During the past decades several phenomenological continuum models of dislocation patterning were proposed, but few of them (if any) are derived from microscopic considerations through systematic and controlled averaging procedures. In this paper we present a 2D continuum theory that is obtained by systematic averaging of the equations of motion of discrete dislocations. It is shown that in the evolution equations of the dislocation densities diffusion like terms neglected in earlier considerations play a crucial role in the length scale selection of the dislocation density fluctuations. It is also shown that the formulated continuum theory can be derived from an averaged energy functional using the framework of phase field theories. However, in order to account for the flow stress one has in that case to introduce a nontrivial dislocation mobility function, which proves to be crucial for the instability leading to patterning.

This research aims to develop a biology science learning continuum on the aspects of structure and function at the elementary school (ES) level based on the teachers’ cognitive abilities. This survey research used a reasoned multiple-choice test, having the material aspects of structure and function with the cognitive levels of C1-C2, was developed by listing the key sub-aspects, forum group discussion, item development, expert judgement, and item revision. The test was administered to 240 ES teachers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and the results were analyzed through the Quest program. The results reveal that the learning continuum is developed based on the difficulty level of the questions in which item response theory (IRT) shows the respondents’ cognitive ability, the level of cognitive processes from the lower level to the higher ones, the complexity level from the simple to the most complex in each sub-aspect of the structure and function. The sub-aspects with higher cognitive ability scores, lower difficulty index, lower level of cognitive processing, and lower complexity are recommended to at the lower grades. Sub-aspects with lower cognitive ability value, higher difficulty index, higher level of cognitive processing, and higher complexity category are recommended to the higher grades.

The theory of dislocations in a continuum is developed. Methods are presented for solving boundary value problems for stresses and displacements due to distributions of dislocations. Examples are presented of the application of the theory to crystalline materials.

The words integrated and integration have appeared for many years in their association with defense acquisition. Although integration has been discussed and written about extensively, making it happen has not been successful in such a non-integrated environment of multiple Services and agencies, multiple contractors, multiple responsible test organizations, and multiple customers. In 1983, Congress looked towards test and evaluation (T&E) officials to take a giant step toward integration in defense acquisition by incorporating responsibility for operational T&E with designated Service and agency Operational Test Agencies (OTAs), and the creation of the Director of Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E). This move created an integrated chain of testing, evaluating, and reporting at the completion of major defense acquisition programs (MDAPS) to the two customers of defense acquisition: 1) the warfighter who uses the equipment, and 2) Congress, representing the U.S. taxpayer who pays for the equipment. While this integration of responsibility and authority for operational T&E (OT&E) has been very effective, a drawback is that OT&E by nature requires test items that are near the completion of development so that they can be operated by their ultimate users in an operationally representative environment. Therefore, the majority of OT&E must be accomplished near the end of the development cycle. Here within lies the problem; too much stuff happens during the earlier, significantly non-integrated, developmental part of the acquisition process that the two key customers above have no knowledge of or influence over.

Continuum or hyper-redundant robots are robots which exhibit behavior similar to biological trunks, tentacles and snakes. Unlike traditional robots, continuum robot manipulators do not have rigid joints, hence the manipulators are compliant, extremely dexterous, and capable of dynamic, adaptive manipulation in unstructured environments; however, the development of high-performance control algorithms for these manipulators is a challenging problem. In this paper, we present an approach to whole arm grasping control for continuum robots. The grasping controller is developed in two stages; high level path planning for the grasping objective, and a low level joint controller using a neural network feedforward component to compensate for dynamic uncertainties. These techniques are used to enable whole arm grasping without using contact force measurements and without using a dynamic model of the continuum robot. Experimental results using the OCTARM, a soft continuum robotic manipulator are included to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed low level joint controller.

The U.S. Navy is undergoing a major Command and Control (C2) transformation to meet changes in its operational commitments and to ensure that necessary operational information (12) is delivered to the right person, at the right time, and in the right way. Almost a decade after the terrorist attacks on 9-11, Navy missions have expanded to include such unconventional warfare areas as counterterrorism, counterinsurgency, information operations, security cooperation, humanitarian relief, and civil-military operations. To meet these additional missions, the Navy increasingly needs to interoperate with other U.S. military services, U.S. governmental agencies, and a diverse list of international partners. In this new environment, Information and Intelligence (12) have become core war-fighting enablers. The Command and Control Rapid Prototyping Continuum (C2RPC) is a new initiative designed to produce enhanced operational concepts and capabilities and establishes a technology readiness venue for piloting new C2 capability increments at selected operational commands. C2RPC is a jointly-funded, cooperative effort spearheaded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (PEO C4I), in cooperation with Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMPACFLT).
