The main objective of the course (through the lectures and through these notes) is to provide enough background on wavelets so that a researcher or skilled practitioner in computer graphics can understand the nature and properties of wavelets, and assess their suitability to solve specific problems in computer graphics. Our goal is that after the course and/or the study of these notes one should be able to access the basic mathematical literature on wavelets, understand and review critically the current computer graphics literature using them, and have some intuition about the pluses and minuses of wavelets and wavelet transform for a specific application. The NYIT Computer Graphics Laboratory was a research facility located in the Gerry House of the New York Institute of Technology between 1974-1992. At the CGL a variety of accomplishments were made such as the invention of the alpha channel as well as the development of computerized 2D animation. This is a large set of images recovered from the lab's disks recovered in 1999 by lab member Ephriam Cohen. Included is a readme file with further context for the disks included along with a note about the requirements needed for presentation in the correct aspect ratio. Images included are a large assortment but include brushes from Alvy Smith's Paint3 program, the bitmap font from the Images II system, images used in Sunstone , concept art from The Works , and a large variety of artworks created for personal entertainment, used in projects at the lab, or of unidentified origin. Also included is a "Bin" folder with software of unknown usage.

The present status of the application of computer graphics to the building profession or architecture and its relationship to other scientific and technical areas were discussed. It was explained that, due to the fragmented nature of architecture and building activities (in contrast to the aerospace industry), a comprehensive, economic utilization of computer graphics in this area is not practical and its true potential cannot now be realized due to the present inability of architects and structural, mechanical, and site engineers to rely on a common data base. Future emphasis will therefore have to be placed on a vertical integration of the construction process and effective use of a three-dimensional data base, rather than on waiting for any technological breakthrough in interactive computing.

This report is concerned with incremental methods for computer graphics. The application of the incremental approach to some advanced problems in computer graphics is discussed and demonstrated. In Section II, the problem of fast curve generation and display is discussed. This section uses the mathematical approach to curves as a perspective projection of polynomial-curves in higher-dimensional spaces. Section III, also discusses a fast generation of curves, but using another mathematical approach, the linear-differences method, only two-dimensional curves are discussed. Section IV, shows how to make the Warnock algorithm, for hidden lines elimination, incremental. Section V, discusses the generation of half-tone images, in real time. Section VI, discusses an incremental method for finding the intersection of given line segments.

The colloquium was held at WES, 1-3 Aug 78. The objective was to bring together people from throughout the Corps who were involved in developing and supporting graphics activities in their offices. Over 100 participants representing 11 Division offices, 22 District offices, and 3 Corps laboratories attended the colloquium. Speakers from the field offices addressed the graphics applications that are currently being pursued by their offices. Speakers from the R and D laboratories addressed graphics applications developed for field offices' use and other future developments. The interactive and passive workshops informed participants on using existing graphics programs and provided a forum to discuss the future needs of computer graphics. The Colloquium Proceedings are published in two volumes. All papers and abstracts of the presentations and workshops are included in Volume I. Volume II contains the abstracts of computer graphics programs being used by the Corps' offices.

To date there is little evidence to support the widespread belief of educators and trainers that the use of visual displays enhances instructional effectiveness. This lack of supporting data is critical when computer-based education systems are considered training delivery vehicles; systems capable of providing sophisticated graphics displays are costly. The purpose of this experiment was to obtain data comparing the instructional effectiveness of three types of graphics displays for computer-assisted instruction (CAI). Three groups of subjects each studied one of three versions of a CAI lesson on the psychophysiology of audition. The text of the lesson was identical for all versions; the type of graphics used in the lesson was different for each group. No control group was used. Graphics were either low level (schematic representations and boxed alphanumerics), medium level (line drawings), or high level (animations plus line drawings). After completing the lesson, all subjects were tested for retention of four knowledge categories addressed in the lesson: acquisition and use of principles, identification of structures, definitions and use of terminology, and memory of specific facts. Results indicated that the type of graphics used during the CAI lesson did not affect lesson completion time or final performance on the retention tests.

This thesis explores the requirements necessary to develop a graphics support library for the Ada programming language hosted on the Zenith H/A-100 microcomputer. A prototype graphics library is implemented in 8086 assembly language embedded in an Ada package. The library operates with JANUS/Ada under the CP/M-86 operating system. Listings of library routines developed are provided as well as a user's guide and demonstration programs. Potential areas for further investigation and development are suggested. An important problem in solid modeling systems is the creation of surfaces that blend together two or more surfaces that describe objects. The purpose of blending is to create a single, more complex object. The blending surface itself is generally not of any special importance in this context but is intended to provide a smooth transition between the surfaces to be blended. The most complete results were obtained for the blending of surfaces that are described by either the explicit or implicit boundary representations. The final report provides a description of the results.

This thesis describes the modification of six computer programs on the Micro VAX/2000/CAD/CAE workstation. Three of the programs, NEW_DOUBLE, NEW_PANEL, and NEW_ VOR, were originally transferred to the Aeronautical Engineering VAX System Server by LCDR John Campbell. Two of the programs (SUB and SUPER), both vortex lattice method programs, were placed in the VAX system by Mr. Rich Margason of the Langley Research Center. None of the above five programs had any graphics facility. The sixth program, a viscous interaction program was transferred/adapted to the VAX system by the author of this report. Extensive modifications were subsequently made to these programs to enhance their user interface. In addition, all the programs have been adapted to provide interactive graphical/printed output. Further­ more, program NEW_DOUBLE was modified to accept any arbitrary symmetri­cal shaped body. Lastly, NEW_PANEL was altered to interface with a viscous interaction effects program in which the boundary layer characteristics are determined. All user inputs in NEW_DOUBLE, NEW_PANEL and NEW_VOR were backed up with interactive checking routines. The programs are intended to be used by aeronautics/astronautics engineering students in basic and advanced courses in aerodynamics.
