The objective of this thesis is to develop a computer based architecture for curriculum management of the Command, Control and Communications (C3) curriculum. The architecture is based on hypertext technology. Knowledge elements are defined for Educational Skill Requirements (ESRs) and core courses, and they are used as key components in the architecture. A general assignment model, that uses knowledge elements, has been included as an aid in curriculum management. The feasibility of implementing the proposed architecture is also discussed. Seven appendices have been included which contain lists of knowledge elements, core courses, a course matrix, Educational Skill Requirements and a discussion of hypertext and multimedia. The software product the author produced using hypertext technology, which is the first implementation of the architecture described in this thesis, can be obtained from the C3 curricular Office.

This IDA Paper was prepared at the request of the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization. The paper documents findings of an evaluation on the capabilities of certain computer software/computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools to provide computer-aided graphic design of Battle Management/C3 for the SDIO. Each tool (of the five selected on the basis of the best available at this time), was installed at IDA. After training by vendor tool staff, an IDA team, using a hands-on design exercise determined the merits of the tools for SDI application. A comparative summary of the tools is given relative to envisaged SDI requirements and an extensive questionnaire is answered for each.

This volume provides comparative data for faculty salaries in public and private colleges, based on an annual survey of over 700 colleges and universities. Data cover the following 15 disciplines: accounting, agribusiness and agricultural production, anthropology, architecture and environmental design, area and ethnic studies, audiology and speech pathology, business administration and management, business and management, business economics, chemistry, communication technologies, communications, computer and information sciences, curriculum and instruction, and dramatic arts. Presented for each discipline is a summary of the overall average salary increases between the baseline year of 1985-86 and the year 1988-89, for both state and private institutions. Data from institutions participating in both years are compared with each other and with the consumer price index. Also included are average salaries by rank and the faculty mix percentage as well as comparisons with other disciplines. The participating institutions are listed. (DB)
