In a previous functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study, we used an illusory face detection task to study the neural mechanisms associated with the detection of a face (Thome et al, Cereb Cortex 2021, 32(1):137-157). We showed that illusory face perception activated (just as real faces) the core system (i.e., bilateral occipital face area (OFA) and fusiform face area (FFA)), albeit with atypical left-lateralization of the OFA. The core system was coupled with two distinct brain regions in the lateral prefrontal (inferior frontal gyrus, IFG) and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC). A dynamic causal modeling (DCM) analysis revealed that activity in the OFA during illusory face detection was upregulated by a modulatory face-specific influence of the IFG. In the present study, we aim to generalize these findings. We will investigate the neural network associated with the detection of letters, as one specific example of a non-face object. We will use an illusory detection task. Subjects will be presented with pure noise stimuli, but are instructed that letters are hidden in 50% of the stimuli they perceive. We hypothesize that the neural mechanisms underlying top-down modulations described in the neuroanatomical model of face detection (as outlined in Thome et al., 2021) is not specific to faces, but constitutes a more general categorization mechanism.

Both traditional cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy appear to be efficacious treatment packages for adult depression based on past research. Furthermore, some of the cognitive components of these treatments, cognitive restructuring and defusion, seem to produce similar outcomes and work partially through the same processes, despite being theoretically opposed to each other. While defusion has been studied extensively, the other component of the openness pillar of ACT, willingness, has not yet received the same empirical attention. Therefore, the aim of this study is to clarify the differences between the cognitive components of CBT and ACT in terms of treatment outcomes, processes, and acceptability. To accomplish this, individuals with moderate to severe levels of depression symptoms took part in a week-long, online intervention meant to help them cope with a self-relevant, unwanted/unpleasant thought. Participants were randomly assigned to practice either cognitive restructuring or defusion & willingness using daily thought logs. Both within-and-between subjects effects were examined (i.e., pre-to-post treatment scores within conditions and post-treatment scores between conditions). It is predicted that both interventions will provide benefit to participants, but will work through distinct process.

The objective of this systematic review is to identify the markers of quality behaviour support plans that are likely to affect positive behavioural and quality of life changes for the people with disability subject to the plans. While the available body of evidence will likely include sources of evidence that report opinion regarding relevant quality markers, this review is focused on collating markers that are evidence-based. Given this, the systematic review will focus on sources of evidence that report findings from a research study. This work will inform positive behaviour support practice moving forward by assembling an evidence-based set of quality markers that can be used to guide behaviour support plan development in future.

Abstract The aim of the present study was the development and validation of a simple, precise and specific reversed phase HPLC method for the simultaneous determination of 22 components present in different essential oils namely cinnamon bark oil, caraway oil and cardamom fruit oil. The chromatographic separation of all the components was achieved on Wakosil–II C18 column with mixture of 30 mM ammonium acetate buffer (pH 4.7), methanol and acetonitrile in different ratio as mobile phase in a ternary linear gradient mode. The calibration graphs plotted with five different concentrations of each component were linear with a regression coefficient R2 >0.999. The limit of detection and limit of quantitation were estimated for all the components. Effect on analytical responses by small and deliberate variation of critical factors was examined by robustness testing with Design of Experiment employing Central Composite Design and established that this method was robust. The method was then validated for linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity and demonstrated to be applicable to the determination of the ingredients in commercial sample of essential oil.

A pingo transect 5 km NE of Tununuk Point, Richards Island, N.W.T., was chosen for studies of the succession of soil Cottembola, soils and vegetation. Some well established attitudinal zones of plant and collembolan communities and soil types, representing stages of different successional age, were established on the pingo and its foot-hill. A mosaic of vegetation subtypes was typical on the pingo foot -hill, whereas the older suecessional stages on the slope up to the pingo top formed three different vegetation bells. The soils across the transect developed from the former lake sediments and peat to Cryic Brunisol. The humus form changed during the succession in the sequence peat to raw-humus to raw-humus-moder to moder, and the clay B-horizon came closer to the soil surface. The succession of collembolan communities started with a low diversity semiaquatic community dominated by Ceratophysella czukczorum, lsotoma cf. neglecta and Anurida decemoculata. The species diversity was high in more advanced communities. In these, large euedaphobionts with a furca were the dominant life-form. Folsomia bisetosa, F. regularis, F. quadrioculata, C. czukczorum and Willemia similis appeared eudominantly in certain seral communities.

Methods: This community-based cross-sectional study was performed using 1423 women aged between 15–75 years from rural Bangladesh in 2009 and 2010. Metabolic syndrome was defined according to standard NCEP-ATP III criteria. Logistic regression was used to estimate the association between age at menarche and metabolic syndrome, with adjustment of potential confounding variables, including age, education, marital status, tobacco users, use of contraceptives and number of pregnancies. Results: Early onset of menarche ( 13 years) was found to be associated with a higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome (odds ratio=1.55; 95 % confidence interval =1.05-2.30). The pot experiment with spring barley was carried on in 2011 and 2013-2014 years. The total number of 263 genotypes was tested against short-term drought stresses introduced at the tillering stage for 11 days or at full flag leaf stage for 14 days. At the control treatment, plants were grown at the optimal soil moisture level of 13-15% weight by weight for the whole vegetation period and in the stress treatments, the moisture was maintained at the level of 5-6% weight by weight. Spring barley showed a higher tolerance to the drought stress at tillering stage than at flag leaf stage. Barley genotypes differed in their response to terminal drought stresses due to diverse ability for regenerating after the stress removal. The resistance and tolerance of the genotypes to the drought stress imposed at tillering stage resulted from their ability to produce additional fertile tillers and to the stress at flag leaf stage by compensation of the reduced grain number per spike through increasing the weight of 1000 grains. The grain yield of tolerant genotypes named as MCAM: 85, 86, 102, 128 and 129 was stable independent on water supply and the most suitable for breeders in Poland.
