This scoping review will map the existing evidence about the use of technology at home for the terminally ill elderly population. The purpose is to identify what technology systems are used in practice today, how technology can change communication between palliative care professionals and patients, and what is known about the strengths or weaknesses perceived on the use of technology by palliative patients at home.

Compassionate communication deepens human relationships by prioritizing empathy, understanding, and harmony, utilizing words, gestures, attitudes, and choices. As a therapeutic tool, it allows healthcare professionals to respect a person’s autonomy, establishing trust and security. For palliative care nurses, it is fundamental, as it creates compassionate relationships between caregivers, the person in a palliative situation, and their family/caregiver. The review will identify areas in scientific knowledge that require further research and map the dimensions of compassionate communication in palliative nursing.
