It's no secret that we're big fans of all bodies and embodiment and in this episode we discuss the intersection of bodies and spirituality. We both have had personal experiences with shame and disconnection from our bodies, particularly in relation to  gender identity. Fr. Shay talks about how transitioning helped him become more aware of and connected to his body and also helped him explore the concept of 'embodied spirituality' in Catholicism where there is emphasis on taking care of the body as it ages. They act as a link between health and social services and the community to improve access to services and their quality. CHWs also help increase health knowledge and self-sufficiency through outreach, education, counseling, social support, and advocacy. Our intention is to undertake a scoping review to delineate the existing evidence pertaining to the training methodologies and strategies employed in studies that depict training programs for CHWs who care for older adults. Our ultimate objective is to utilize the findings to enhance training programs for CHWs, thereby enabling them to deliver high-quality care for older adults. In light of the scarcity of literature specific to Community Health Workers (CHWs) serving older adults and the broad spectrum of disciplinary influence within CHW literature, our study will employ a scoping review methodology. The purpose of this scoping review is to ascertain the characteristics of training curricula for CHWs who provide care for older adults (aged 65+). Abstract Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between men who engage in carework and commitment to gender equity. The context of the study was that gender inequitable masculinities create vulnerability for men and women to HIV and other health concerns. Interventions are being developed to work with masculinity and to 'change men'. Researchers now face a challenge of identifying change in men, especially in domains of their lives beyond relations with women. Engagement in carework is one suggested indicator of more gender equitable practice. Methods: A qualitative approach was used. 20 men in three South African locations (Durban, Pretoria/Johannesburg, Mthatha) who were identified as engaging in carework were interviewed. The men came from different backgrounds and varied in terms of age, race and socio-economic status. A semi-structured approach was used in the interviews. Results: Men were engaged in different forms of carework and their motivations to be involved differed. Some men did carework out of necessity. Poverty, associated with illness in the family and a lack of resources propelled some men into carework. Other men saw carework as part of a commitment to making a better world. 'Care' interpreted as a functional activity was not enough to either create or signify support for gender equity. Only when care had an emotional resonance did it relate to gender equity commitment. Conclusions: Engagement in carework precipitated a process of identity and value transformation in some men suggesting that support for carework still deserves to be a goal of interventions to 'change men'. Changing the gender of carework contributes to a more equitable gender division of labour and challenges gender stereotypes. Interventions that promote caring also advance gender equity.

Abstract BACKGROUND:: Infectious disease control is one of the important components of patient care which can assist in reducing morbidity and mortality. Source isolation is one of the strategies that have used in order to prevent from the spread of contagious infectious diseases. Since nursing student should be able to do the caring in source isolation patients after learning the principles, it’s necessary to assess the students’ perception of caring for this client group in order to prepare them for the role of caring. METHODS:: This is a qualitative phenomenological study; its participants were selected with maximum variation by purposed sampling from first to fourth year nursing and midwifery students of Isfahan School of Nursing and Midwifery. The students used to do the patient caring during the clinical internship. The sampling done until 10 interview data saturation was obtained. In order to collect data, researcher used depth interview method. Data analysis was performed by seven-stage Collaizzi method. RESULTS:: The findings of this study included 6 main concept (themes) from participants’ experiences as following: 1. Stressor agents of caring,2. Response to stress,3. Care requirments,4. Care provider performance, 5. Consequence of care, and 6. Improper caring. CONCLUSIONS:: Providing educational programs in terms of isolated patients can reduce anxiety in students which this can lead to more control and prevent the spread of infectious diseases. In addition, studying about patients’ needs can be useful for improving practical interventions and clinical care.

Aim To explore what factors inform healthcare professionals’ clinical decision-making when providing end of life care for patients with dementia in primary care. Design A qualitative study design, utilising an ethnographic approach. Methods A mixed sample group of registered healthcare professionals, including district nurses, specialist nurses and general practitioners, will be purposively sampled and recruited from one health board in Wales, which will cover three settings within primary care. A multi-method approach will be utilised to provide rich data, including non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and review of key documents. Data will be managed using NVivo and analysed thematically. Ethical approval was gained in April 2022. Discussion Little is known about the end of life care decision-making process of healthcare professionals caring for patients with dementia in primary care settings. This study will therefore address this pertinent gap. The study findings may also be transferable to healthcare professionals working in similar clinical settings across the UK. Impact It is anticipated that this study will inform the subsequent development of an intervention that can be used by healthcare professionals to support decision making and subsequently the provision of quality end of life care in primary care for people with dementia.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed healthcare professionals to traumatic and unprecedented experiences worldwide, (Braquehais et al., 2020), with additional burden being carried by nurses in direct patient care provision (Nestor, O’ Tuathaigh and O’ Brien, 2021). In addition to the impact of COVID-19, pre-existing constraints including resource inadequacy and work-related enforced pressures have further compounded the long-term impact on nursing and nursing care outcomes (Gavin et al., 2020). Events such as disasters and disease outbreaks, epidemics and pandemics require intense response from a workforce, however there is sometimes a lack of focus on the wellbeing of those providing the response (Albott et al., 2020). The WHO (2018) prioritise health in terms of the reduction of inequity, and highlight that a qualified, motivated, and well supported workforce is paramount to the development of people-centred healthcare systems, and emergency preparedness. This reinforces the necessity post COVID-19 to reflect on the seismic and rapid changes and stressors in relation to the well-being, capability and preparedness of nurses in their caring role for future crises (Gavin et al., 2020). Evidence suggests that post pandemic studies should be undertaken to ascertain the long-term consequences of the pandemic (Braquehais et al., 2020), as an opportune time to ensure that the nurses voices are integrated into local and global decision making, to enhance future policy and targeted supports (Morley et al., 2020; Digby et al., 2021; Holton et al., 2021). The aim of this study is a post pandemic view of how the experiences of the nurses in their caring role during COVID-19, impacted, informed and prepared them in their caring role for the COVID-19 pandemic and for future inevitable crises in healthcare.

The objective of this scoping review is to map and examine in scientific evidence, the role of TeamSTEPPS® in interprofessional communication, during care for people in critical situations. This is a registration of study plans before data colletion begins.

The role of a clinical pharmacist embraces the philosophy of pharmaceutical care, which is a patient-centred practice in which the practitioner assumes responsibility for a patient’s drug therapy needs. The practitioner is also committed and held accountable for identifying, resolving, and preventing drug therapy problems (DTPs). Drug therapy problems are actual or potential undesirable event(s) experienced by a patient which involve or are suspected to involve drug therapy and that interfere with achieving the desired goals of therapy. There are seven categories of DTPs which include: unnecessary drug, new drug required, suboptimal/ineffective drug/route, drug dose too high, drug dose too low, adverse drug event, and adherence concerns. Pharmacists must categorize these DTPs as actual or potential and resolve them on a priority basis. Clinical pharmacy is defined as “that area of pharmacy concerned with the science and practice of rational medication use”. Clinical pharmacists ensure rational medication for hospitalized patients by performing several daily activities. In general, the daily activities of the clinical pharmacist include doing best possible medication histories, medication reconciliation, bedside patient visits, attending patient care rounds, therapeutic drug monitoring, providing discharge medication counselling and acting as a direct resource to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers. More specifically, clinical pharmacists should perform high value actions proven to be associated with improved processes and outcomes of care. These high-value actions are reflected in a set of national clinical pharmacy key performance indicator (cpKPI) activities. A cpKPI is a quantifiable process measure of clinical pharmacist activities that are evidence-based and associated with improved patient and health-system outcomes. The measurement and reporting of cpKPIs can support pharmacists to target and prioritize the delivery of clinical pharmacy services in a resource limited setting. The eight Canadian consensus cpKPIs include medication reconciliation on admission, pharmaceutical care plan, resolution of drug therapy problems, active participation on interprofessional patient care rounds, patient education during hospital stay, patient education at discharge, medication reconciliation at discharge, and bundled patient care interventions. Numerous studies of differing methodologies and endpoints have been conducted to investigate the benefit of clinical pharmacists as essential members of the interdisciplinary team. For example, Bond et al., investigated the link between hospital-based clinical pharmacy services and hospital mortality rates and determined that the presence of clinical pharmacy services was associated with reduced mortality rates. Other studies have demonstrated that clinical pharmacists also reduce morbidity, re-admission rates and have a positive return of investment. The pharmacist’s recommendations regarding therapeutic decisions reduces the time it takes to get the appropriate medication to the patient, ultimately, improving patient care. The role of the clinical pharmacist is an essential one. Due to robust evidence supporting the benefit of clinical pharmacists they have become integral team members in many areas, including the emergency department (ED). The roles and responsibilities of the ED and ICU clinical pharmacist are well defined and serve as the standard of care in these areas. In contrast, there are no publications that comprehensively describe the role of clinical pharmacists integrated into trauma teams who provide care for trauma patients; referred to as trauma pharmacists. The American Society of Health System Pharmacists Guidelines for Emergency Medicine and the Society of Critical Care Medicine offer miniscule recommendations regarding the role of the clinical pharmacist. The American Society of Health System Pharmacists Guidelines for Emergency Medicine provide some reference to the pharmacist’s role in trauma resuscitation, pain control and advanced trauma life support training (ATLS); however, this is insufficient to characterize the optimal value of the holistic trauma clinical pharmacist who provides care along the continuum of acute care for patients who have experienced physical trauma. This lack of inclusivity leaves a perceptible gap in the literature and clinical care. The paucity of literature regarding the defined roles and responsibilities of clinical pharmacists who provide care to trauma patients may in part be due to the diverse and varying locations where they work. A pharmacist that is integrated into a trauma team or that provides care for trauma patients may work in the ED, ICU, or in more specific ward-based care settings such as orthopedic surgery, a burn unit, neurosurgery, or a rehabilitation unit, etc. Trauma pharmacists in these settings have many important, evidence-based interventions and activities to consider completing for a variety of problems including but not limited to ATLS, resuscitation, rapid sequence intubation (RSI), pain/analgesia, opioid stewardship, sedation/agitation, traumatic brain injury, seizure treatment/prophylaxis, tetanus prophylaxis, antibiotic prophylaxis, venous thromboembolism prophylaxis, splenectomy vaccinations, and massive hemorrhage, and hemorrhagic shock. We hypothesize that comprehensively describing the role and impact of trauma pharmacists, similar to work that has already been done for ED or ICU pharmacists, will improve pharmacy practice and patient outcomes. A preliminary search of MEDLINE, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and JBI Evidence Synthesis was conducted. The results suggest that promoting the professional development of the clinical pharmacist in caring for trauma patients has strengthened key steps in the trauma pathway and that a pharmacist’s presence on the trauma ward promotes confidence and evidence-based decision making among other members of the trauma team. This search also confirmed that no other review articles or guidelines exists for this topic. Of the fourteen established evidence review types we determined that a scoping review, following the Arksey and O’Malley’s, JBI, and PRISMA-ScR framework, is the most appropriate methodology for this work. According to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, scoping reviews are “exploratory projects that systematically map the literature available on a topic, identifying key concepts, theories, sources of evidence, and gaps in research.” Scoping reviews can be particularly useful when the body of literature is complex and heterogenous – as anticipated with this work. Thus, completion of a scoping review would be the starting point for comprehensively describing the roles and responsibilities of the clinical pharmacists that provide care for trauma patients, here referred to as trauma pharmacists. This scoping review aims to identify, catalogue, and describe published research investigating the roles, responsibilities, and activities of a clinical pharmacist in the care of trauma patients along the continuum of acute care.

Previous research has shown that irrespective of their actual opinion, perceived trustworthiness increases with how much a target cares about a social issue. Specifically, perceived integrity-based trustworthiness as well as perceived benevolence-based trustworthiness increase with a target’s level of caring about a social issue (Zlatev, 2019). This study serves three main purposes: First, we assess whether the effect reported in Zlatev, 2019 generalizes to social issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-2021. Second, we investigate whether (perceived) controversy of a social issue moderates the effect of caring on trustworthiness. Third, we aim at testing whether the effect extends to trust game behavior by examining whether money transfers in a trust game (as well as expected returns) increase with a target’s level of caring about a social issue.

The purpose of this paper is to show how child care practitioners and public policymakers can function in the seemingly disparate and often overlapping roles of professional caregiver, participating advocate, and public policymaker. Described are: (1) the recent expansion of and anticipated future need for child day care programs, focusing on families with working parents and emphasizing the use of family day care; (2) the identification of children's basic and universal developmental needs; (3) perceptions of childhood that affect adults' responses to children's needs, emphasizing the development of early education and child day care programs, especially in family day care; (4) conceptions of politics that underlie the current role of government in the formation and operation of family day care homes; and (5) means by which to express the relationship between the perceptions of childhood and the conceptions of politics in a pluralistic society. It is argued that persons in the roles of caregiver, advocate, and policymaker must function simultaneously in whichever roles are appropriate so that government will operate at a consistent level of consensus and compromise, so that government will respond to each segment of society that has responsibilities for child-rearing, and so that no one group will be favored to the exclusion of another. William Griffith Thomas was a pastor, teacher and co-founder of the Dallas Theological Seminary. This book contains nine devotional commentaries on prayers from Paul's letters to the churches at Thessalonica, Colossi and Ephesus. Thomas is theologically conservative. The girlfriends are coming to visit the chaps at college, but of course they can't stay unless there is a proper chaperone. So what could be more reasonable that getting a friend from the Drama Club to dress up and pretend to be Charley's Aunt? Simple and sure to work! What could go wrong? Howsabout the real aunt arriving? This play has been revived and adapted numerous times including as films, a Broadway musical, and even an opera. (NOTE: the script contains an almost overwhelming number of stage directions by the author telling each actor what emotion to show, where to move, and even how to create some of the visual effects. Born in 1878, Thomas published his first book when he was 18. Having married while still at university, he supported his family by writing articles and books, some in the form of what we might call slow travel writing, compiled on walks throughout England and Wales. He came to poetry late, encouraged by Robert Frost, and wrote 144 poems between 1914, and 1917 when he was killed, two years after enlisting, and shortly after arriving in France. <br><br> His poetic life coincided with WW1, and though not a war poet, his is the poetry of loss, of life as it would never be again. What is powerful to the English imagination is his depiction of the fragility of the English countryside. This is inseparable from his deep understanding of the longings and regrets of those who would die. Transience and mortality are at the heart of his work. This is true in one of the country’s favourite poems, to be found on this recording: Adlestrop. He is important to other poets in that, at his best, his poetry is quietly, sometimes coldly, conversational, with a slow beat that takes us with him as he thinks through from line to line, and wraps us in his vision of life and the natural world. Two fifteen-year-old boys---the younger of whom may have been fourteen---decide to hunt and trap away from home in the north woods of Maine. A true recounting of their adventures can be found here, though the years that passed before the tale was written down may have added a slight bit of exaggeration. Then again, they set out in the winter of 1875 and all that's written could very well be the complete and honest truth! In terms of population, in terms of development and in terms of wealth, Victoria boomed in the 1850s and 1860s due to the Gold Rush. Undeniably, the colony had money to burn. Surprise port visits by the Russian corvette Bogatyr and the Confederate warship Shenandoah in the 1860s awakened in Victoria a deep sense of vulnerability, and Victorians set their minds to a new domestic project – a decades long pursuit of security. That effort would ultimately give rise to extensive coastal fortifications, militia and artillery formations both voluntary and professional, sea mines, and a small but not inconsequential naval flotilla whose backbone would be the formidable ironclad H.M.V.S. Cerberus. Not that these efforts were confined to Victoria alone. The not-infrequently perilous straits of the Mother Country as it navigated the treacherous shoals of European politics and global empire provided ample reasons for insomnia. To varying degrees the other states too had constituted forces, and most made a start at acquiring ‘warships’—an assemblage tending more to the ‘dinky’ side than that term might otherwise suggest. But where naval matters were concerned New South Wales made something of a false start, while Queensland and South Australia simply started late. Whether this is because the issue didn’t resonate as much in the other colonies, or whether Victoria simply had larger resources to sink into an inherently (economically) unproductive project is not immediately obvious. Efforts _were_ made in all the colonies, however and joint defence and a federal fleet would be a not insignificant impetus towards Federation. The Australian colonies would largely abandon armaments acquisition with the depression of the 1890s, but the arrival of Theodore Roosevelt’s Great White Fleet in 1908 exercised popular imagination, and the recently federated Commonwealth of Australia set about acquiring a new navy. This new Royal Australian Navy, lead by the battle-cruiser HMAS Australia, steamed into Sydney Harbour for the first time in late 1913. This new institution would be tested far more strenuously than the naval forces of the unfederated colonies ever were.
