Compared with classical block codes, efficient list decoding of rank-metric codes seems more difficult. Although the list decodability of random rank-metric codes and limits to list decodability have been completely determined, little work on efficient list decoding rank-metric codes has been done. The only known efficient list decoding of rank-metric codes $\mC$ gives decoding radius up to the Singleton bound $1-R-\Ge$ with positive rate $R$ when $\rho(\mC)$ is extremely small, i.e., $\Theta(\Ge^2)$ , where $\rho(\mC)$ denotes the ratio of the number of rows over the number of columns of $\mC$ \cite[STOC2013]{Guru2013}. It is commonly believed that list decoding of rank-metric codes $\mC$ with not small constant ratio $\rho(\mC)$ is hard. The main purpose of the present paper is to explicitly construct a class of rank-metric codes $\mC$ with not small constant ratio $\rho(\mC)$ and efficiently list decode these codes with decoding radius beyond $(1-R)/2$. Our key idea is to employ two-variable polynomials $f(x,y)$, where $f$ is linearized in variable $x$ and the variable $y$ is used to "fold" the code. In other words, rows are used to correct rank errors and columns are used to "fold" the code to enlarge decoding radius. Apart from the above algebraic technique, we have to prune down the list. The algebraic idea enables us to pin down the messages into a structured subspace of dimension linear in the number $n$ of columns. This "periodic" structure allows us to pre-encoding the messages to prune down the list. More precisely, we use subspace design introduced in \cite[STOC2013]{Guru2013} to get a deterministic algorithm with a larger constant list size and employ hierarchical subspace-evasive sets introduced in \cite[STOC2012]{Guru2012} to obtain a randomized algorithm with a smaller constant list size.

The messages take values from a finite alphabet, and unlike traditional quantized decoders which are quantized versions of the Belief propagation (BP) decoder, the proposed finite alphabet iterative decoders (FAIDs) do not propagate quantized probabilities or log-likelihoods and the variable node update functions do not mimic the BP decoder. Rather, the update functions are maps designed using the knowledge of potentially harmful subgraphs that could be present in a given code, thereby rendering these decoders capable of outperforming the BP in the error floor region. On certain column-weight-three codes of practical interest, we show that there exist 3-bit precision FAIDs that surpass the BP decoder in the error floor. Hence, FAIDs are able to achieve a superior performance at much lower complexity. We also provide a methodology for the selection of FAIDs that is not code-specific, but gives a set of candidate FAIDs containing potentially good decoders in the error floor region for any column-weight-three code. We validate the code generality of our methodology by providing particularly good three-bit precision FAIDs for a variety of codes with different rates and lengths.

According to the DSM-5, ASD displays deficits in sustained attention, nonverbal communication, and maintaining or understanding relationships. However, for students diagnosed with ASD without cognitive impairment, academic achievements predicted by intellectual levels are not met. Many researchers attribute the incongruence between intelligence and academic success to social deficits, particularly reading comprehension.  Reading comprehension is understanding and inferring information from written dialogue. Improving an individual's reading comprehension abilities is crucial as it may improve their access to education, independence and recreational activity. A large body of research investigates interventions for reading comprehension in a school environment, such as computer-based interventions, explicit reading comprehension methods, and utilising other senses, such as music and imagination-based therapies. It is important to assess such interventions over the last decade and note the popular avenues of research. Therefore, the paper aims to investigate reading comprehension interventions within a school environment for children with ASD without cognitive impairment.

We present algorithms performing sparse univariate polynomial interpolation with errors in the evaluations of the polynomial. Based on the initial work by Comer, Kaltofen and Pernet [Proc. ISSAC 2012], we define the sparse polynomial interpolation codes and state that their minimal distance is precisely the length divided by twice the sparsity. At ISSAC 2012, we have given a decoding algorithm for as much as half the minimal distance and a list decoding algorithm up to the minimal distance. Our new polynomial-time list decoding algorithm uses sub-sequences of the received evaluations indexed by a linear progression, allowing the decoding for a larger radius, that is, more errors in the evaluations while returning a list of candidate sparse polynomials. We quantify this improvement for all typically small values of number of terms and number of errors, and provide a worst case asymptotic analysis of this improvement. For instance, for sparsity T = 5 with up to 10 errors we can list decode in polynomial-time from 74 values of the polynomial with unknown terms, whereas our earlier algorithm required 2T (E + 1) = 110 evaluations. We then propose two variations of these codes in characteristic zero, where appropriate choices of values for the variable yield a much larger minimal distance: the length minus twice the sparsity.

In this paper, a new approach for decoding low-rate Reed-Solomon codes beyond half the minimum distance is considered and analyzed. Unlike the Sudan algorithm published in 1997, this new approach is based on multi-sequence shift-register synthesis, which makes it easy to understand and simple to implement. The computational complexity of this shift-register based algorithm is of the same order as the complexity of the well-known Berlekamp-Massey algorithm. Moreover, the error correcting radius coincides with the error correcting radius of the original Sudan algorithm, and the practical decoding performance observed on a q-ary symmetric channel (QSC) is virtually identical to the decoding performance of the Sudan algorithm. Bounds for the failure and error probability as well as for the QSC decoding performance of the new algorithm are derived, and the performance is illustrated by means of examples.

In this paper, we consider quantum error correction over depolarizing channels with non-binary low-density parity-check codes defined over Galois field of size $2^p$ . The proposed quantum error correcting codes are based on the binary quasi-cyclic CSS (Calderbank, Shor and Steane) codes. The resulting quantum codes outperform the best known quantum codes and surpass the performance limit of the bounded distance decoder. By increasing the size of the underlying Galois field, i.e., $2^p$, the error floors are considerably improved.
