The study used a survey design. The instrument was teachers' questionnaire and interview on awareness and readiness. The interview was administered to the different categories of the respondents using a 4-point Likert scale. Two hundred mathematics teachers were randomly selected from 100 schools (public and private) using stratified random sampling technique. Simple percentage and frequency counts were used on research questions. The findings revealed inadequacy in both human and material resources for implementation of the UBE (universal basic education) project in CRS (Cross River State). On teachers' awareness, 71% believed that 6-3-3-4 is just changed to 9-3-4 as a new system, the quality of the new mathematics curriculum reduced as seen in their responses which points to the fact that most of them are unaware of the main objectives of the UBE and the rationale for restructuring the curriculum which mostly is to infuse emerging issues into relevant content and NEEDS (National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy) targets. Public primary school teachers also had higher attendance to re-training programmes than other teachers but attendances were still low (below 50%). On readiness, only 45% of teachers in public schools and 25% in private schools indicated readiness due to inadequacies in availability of resources for implementation and proper training required for taking off. This document provides a common base for the K-9 (grades 10-12 are still under development) mathematics curriculum expectations mandated by the western Canadian provinces and territories of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon Territory, and the Northwest Territories. The framework identifies beliefs about mathematics, general and specific student outcomes, and illustrative examples agreed upon by these six jurisdictions. The following aspects are discussed: (1) mathematical processes based on the standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics: communication, connections, estimation and mental mathematics, problem solving, reasoning, technology, and visualization; (2) nature of mathematics: change, constancy, dimension, number, pattern, quantity, relationships, shape, and uncertainty; (3) strands: number, patterns and relations, shape and space, and statistics and probability; and (4) student expectations. The majority of the document contains general outcomes and specific outcomes with illustrative examples for each grade from kindergarten through grade 9. (MKR)

This guide is intended to assist home economics teachers in designing lessons and activities that will reinforce mathematics skills in consumer and homemaking education programs. Included in the guide are a total of 55 mini-lessons on the following areas of home economics: child development; family relationships; foods and nutrition; consumer education; housing, home furnishings, and equipment; and clothing and textiles. Each activity contains some or all of the following: content area, level of difficulty, home economics content objective, mathematics objective, learning activity, and source. An appendix contains the answers to all activities. Also included is a matrix that details (1) the number(s) of the learning activities in which a particular mathematics skill is reinforced and (2) whether a given mathematics skill is required to pass the New Jersey High School Proficiency Test. This study describes the basic mathematics programs used in, and develops a set of recommendations for, the curriculum at Saddleback College. A survey of the mathematics chairpersons of 105 California community colleges and of the mathematics department faculty was conducted for use in beginning a four-part Delphi exercise. Based on the results of the Delphi exercise it was recommended that the Saddleback College program consist of an optional, tutorial laboratory course and two arithmetic/introduction to algebra courses. One of the latter courses would be directed at those students needing extensive development work in this area and the other would be designed for those needing only a review or those already in possession of a high level of computational skills. Cost analysis for the recommended system was reported. Learning environment surveys, the Delphi questionnaires and results, and material for program cost analysis are provided in appendices. The tales in the Grey Fairy Book are derived from many countries — Lithuania, various parts of Africa, Germany, France, Greece, and other regions of the world. 'The Three Sons of Hali' is from the last century 'Cabinet des Fees,' a very large collection. The stories, as usual, illustrate the method of popular fiction. A certain number of incidents are shaken into many varying combinations, like the fragments of coloured glass in the kaleidoscope. Joan of Arc is a folk heroine of France and a Roman Catholic saint. Claiming divine guidance, she led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years' War, which paved the way for the coronation of Charles VII of France. Captured by her enemies, she was sold to the English and put on trial for charges of "insubordination and heterodoxy". She was burned at the stake for heresy when she was 19 years old. Twenty-five years after her execution, an inquisitorial court examined the trial, pronounced her innocent, and declared her a martyr. Joan of Arc was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920. The tales of King Arthur and his Knights are of Celtic origin. The Celts were the people who occupied Britain at the time when the history of the country opens, and a few words are necessary to explain why the characters in the stories act and speak as though they belonged to a later age. These stories are adapted from the Book of Romance by ANDREW LANG.<br /><br /> It is believed that King Arthur lived in the sixth century, just after the Romans withdrew from Britain, and when the Britons, left to defend themselves against the attacks of the marauding Saxons, rose and defeated them at Mount Badon, securing to themselves peace for many years. It was probably about this time that King Arthur and his company of Knights performed the deeds which were to become the themes of stories and lays for generations afterwards.<br /><br /> In olden times, it was the custom of minstrels and story-tellers to travel through the land from court to court, telling of tales of chivalry and heroism, and for many centuries the tales of King Arthur formed the stock from which the story-teller drew.<br /><br /> In this way the stories came to be handed down from father to son, in Brittany (whose people are of the same family as the Welsh) as well as in Wales and England, and by this means alone were they prevented from being lost. But in the reigns of Henry II. and Richard I., they were set down on paper, and so became literature. Before this, however, a British writer had written out some of the tales, and from him as well as from the lips of the bards and story-tellers of their own generation, the writers in the time of Henry II. were able to collect their information. Lang complemented each myth with poetry by other authors who, like her, were inspired by these ancient stories of the gods. Lang chose these stories because they portrayed heroic gods, faithfully and blindly worshipped by man. Ultimately, however, these gods demonstrated the same frailties as humans, and were found to be just as corrupt. Still, as Lang said, in spite of this these myths portrayed "a wonderful humanity that strikes a vibrant cord . . . ."
