This was one of my first designs in 123d, so it's not the most detailed model out there but it looks cool when printed off and painted. I plan on making a new one soon with more detail in fusion 360.

One of the last flights of the Avro Vulcan ... flew over head ... heading up the North East coast ... parabolic reflector ...

Avro Vulcan B2 Strategic bomber used by RAF from the 1956 to the 1984. The Avro (Hawker Siddeley after 1963) Vulcan is a delta wing aircraft born from the British Air Force's request for an advanced bomber/nuclear deterrent that led to 3 projects of the V-bombers series ; the others were the Vickers Valiant and the Handley Page Victor. Built in 136 exemplars (including prototypes) this aircraft served only with the RAF although it had been proposed to Australia but without results. Argentina was also interested in this plane but after the Falklands war and the subsequent embargo the opportunity vanished. The model is the B2 variant with increased wing surface, more powerful engines and better avionics especially ECM equipments. Model 1:100 scale printed at 1:285 with 0.4mm nozzle and 0.12 mm layers. Printed with a Ender3 as shown in the image taken from PrusaSlicer 2.0. I opted for the version divided into two parts by length ; use sandpaper and in the end the glued joint is not so visible and once painted almost invisible. Ciao Erik

Due to its ability to evade the early jet interceptors and its significant performance advancement over contemporary piston-engined bombers, the Canberra was a popular export product and served with air forces of many nations. This video presents the teardown of a vintage Ground Position Indicator which was used in Avro Vulcan aircrafts. If someone knows something about this device please let me know, particularly the purpose of the various controls on the front panel. 00:00 - Intro 03:54 - Teardown 05:16 - Disc & Ball integrator 07:33 - Latitude and Longitude computations 13:44 - Normal / Fix modes 15:16 - Synchronous motor 16:14 - Test with manual heading change 17:26 - Longitude-latitude simplified electro-mechanical diagram Notes: - At that time the goal of the third disc and ball integrator (on the bottom side) is unknown - The goal of the motor linked to each output differential gear is unknown. I am not sure that they are used for wind correction (unlike in the PHI-4A navigation computer) because the velocity of the shaft of these motors is not controlled. - The Lat/Lon are permuted in the simplified electro-mechanical diagram Latitude/Longitude computation: The latitude and longitude are computed using two disc and ball integrators. The disc of each integrator is linked to the same synchronous motor. The frequency of the signals which drive the motor must be proportional to the ground speed. The input of the integrator (the displacement of the balls) is an image of the sine and the cosine of the heading. This is simply done using slides and levers linked to the heading shaft. The angle of the output shaft is therefore an image of the integral of V(t)*sin(Theta(t)) and of V(t)*cos(Theta(t)), that is to say respectively the longitude and the latitude of the aircraft.
