Prior research demonstrates that unanswered supervisor support negatively affects the way employees feel, behave, and connect with others. The present research examines whether being provided with autonomy can reverse these detrimental effects.

This scoping review explores the diverse conceptualizations and applications of autonomy in mental health care, a principle central to international human rights frameworks such as the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Despite its prominence, autonomy remains a contested concept, varying across cultural and institutional settings. Using the Arksey and O'Malley framework and PRISMA-ScR guidelines, the review will analyze literature from multiple databases and grey sources, focusing on how autonomy is defined and implemented for mental health service users and ex-users. The findings, expected by December 2025, aim to inform rights-based policies and practices aligned with global mental health reform efforts.

Many definitions of autonomy and sentience are used by scientists, philosophers, and the public to explain the minds and behaviors of entities like humans, nonhuman animals, and artificial intelligences (AIs). Autonomous and sentient capacities are central to discussions about AIs in particular and the two terms are frequently used in conjunction with each other. Although there are numerous and varied conceptualizations of both terms within scholarship, scientists and philosophers routinely identify and define what they mean by "autonomy" and "sentience". How do people in the general public routinely think of these two concepts? Do lay perceptions correspond to scholarly definitions? We consider these questions with three studies that are intended to set up future studies on the same topic.

Allyship from men in male-dominated spaces has been found to positively affect women’s sense of identity-safety (Moser & Branscombe, 2021) and confidence (Cihangir et al., 2014) in historically male-dominated spaces. However, many men may be resistant to acting as allies to the extent to that they do not feel that gender inequality is relevant to them or that they are being forced to comply with egalitarian norms (i.e., autonomy). The goal of this study is to examine whether framing allyship for gender equality as meeting basic motivational need of autonomy (i.e., that it's men’s choice to engage in allyship and that men’s perspectives are valued and wanted) predicts men’s allyship intentions.

This two-wave longitudinal study is part of a project exploring the key determinants of adolescents’ psychological well-being. A growing body of research has suggested that parents who interact with their adolescents in ways that support the latter’s experience of autonomy are particularly effective in supporting adaptive psychological functioning (Chirkov & Ryan, 2001; Ferguson et al., 2011). We aim to investigate the longitudinal influence of maternal autonomy support and controlling parenting, which is measured by both mothers’ self-reports and adolescents’ perception, on the depressive symptoms in adolescents. We also aim to investigate the mediating role of basic psychological need satisfaction in the link between both autonomy support and controlling parenting and depressive symptoms.

In this research the influence of a professional standardprocedure on the experienced professional autonomy of primary school teachers is investigated. The study specifically focusses on the use of a professional standardprocedure during the track recommendations at the end of primary school in the Netherlands and the effect of the procedure on the autonomy that primary school teachers experience to express their professionalism. The research is based on a embedded mixed methods design in which an experiment is performed and in addition interviews are being held.

In today’s media-saturated environments, the use of mobile digital devices like smartphones is ubiquitous, leading users to be permanently online and connected to others. Both cognitive (i.e. online vigilance) and behavioural components (i.e. communication load, media multitasking) of permanent connectedness can elicit stress (i.e. digital stress), which is detrimental to individuals’ well-being and health. The present research deepens the understanding of underlying mechanisms of digital stress by considering the boundary conditions of goal conflict and autonomy appraisals which have been linked to indicators of permanent connectedness (i.e. availability demands, instant messenger use) in the past.

The study examines how neuroticism and action versus state orientation are related to perceived stress, and whether this relationship is influenced by an individual's autonomy motive. It is hypothesized that higher neuroticism and state orientation will be associated with greater perceived stress (H1). Additionally, the study proposes that the autonomy motive moderates these relationships (H2). Specifically, individuals high in neuroticism or state-oriented individuals are expected to experience higher levels of perceived stress when their autonomy motive is strong, compared to when it is low (H2.1). Conversely, individuals low in neuroticism or those who are action-oriented are not expected to show differences in perceived stress, regardless of the strength of their autonomy motive (H2.2).

Current studies in the field o human-robot interaction (HRI) connect robots due to technical restrictions sometimes via wires to the internet or the computer of the experimenter. This simple wired connection might change aspects especially in regard to the perception of the robot that were not intended. Most crucially, the wired connection might lead to a change of the perception from the robot as source of information to the robot as medium of the information (Hoorn, 2021). This might reduce the perception of robots as independent entities that are attributed with intentions and agency (Broadbent, 2017; Young et al., 2011). Moreover, based on the link between task and appearance (Goetz et al. 2003, Roesler et al. 2021) the wired connection might influence different task settings differently. Social robots commonly aim to communicate with their human counterpart to engage them and/or distribute knowledge to them (e.g., education) (Campa, 2016; Belpaeme et al., 2018). Depending on what content the robot is communicating, the cable could have a different impact. Most typically social robots teach STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathamatics) topics to students (Belpaeme & Tanaka, 2021). However, those robots are also used for more emotional and social aspects like storytelling (Steinhaeusser et al., 2021). First the story might influence how the robot is perceived - either as technology or more humanlike entity. Second, in connection with the cable more social content like storytelling might be affected more negatively by a cable than more technical content like STEM education.

It aims to identify classroom practices and environmental factors that effectively foster autonomy while exploring differences and commonalities in how educators and students conceptualize and experience it. Student autonomy is a key dimension of high-quality teaching, linked to greater motivation, engagement, and self-regulated learning. Addressing this gap is essential for developing effective, discipline specific strategies that empower students as independent, self-directed learners.

In this systematic review, we analyse available literature on evidence on relationships between pleasure-inclusive comprehensive sex education (CSE), sexual autonomy or related variables (e.g., sexual agency, sexual self-efficacy) and positive and negative sexual experiences as outcome measures.

The prescription and use of steroids, both corticosteroids and anabolic steroids, present significant ethical challenges in medical practice. While corticosteroids are integral in managing inflammatory conditions, their long-term use is associated with considerable side effects, necessitating careful medical supervision. Anabolic steroids, originally developed for medical purposes, are often misused for performance enhancement, raising concerns about health risks, fairness in sports, and informed consent. This review explores the ethical implications of steroid prescriptions, focusing on the balance between patient autonomy, informed consent, medical responsibility, and societal pressures. Key ethical principles, including autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice, are discussed in the context of steroid use, highlighting the complex dilemmas healthcare providers face. The review emphasizes the need for clear ethical guidelines, stringent regulatory measures, and patient education to ensure responsible steroid use. It also examines the importance of equitable access to steroids for legitimate medical purposes and the role of healthcare providers in preventing misuse. The findings contribute to the broader discourse on medical ethics and inform best practices for steroid prescription, ultimately aiming to safeguard patient health and uphold professional integrity. 

Moodle is an open source for e-learning system. Moodle can be used as a tool for delivering contents to students and it can be used to build rich collaborative learning communities. It allows users to be active learners, who actively participate in the online learning process. Based on this background, this study aimed to investigate the students’ views on the use of Moodle in mathematics education. This study gave attention to the variables of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude and students’ self- efficacy in learning mathematics.  Participants of this study consisted of 24 students, who took first and second semester courses at the master's levels in mathematics education in 2018 batch from Open and Distance Education Center (ODEC), TU. There are 21 male and three female students. Four students were chosen for interview including one female representative. Data triangulation between the data of interview, online observation and interview with online teachers were used to analyze and analysis of the data. Three online teachers were chosen for interview purposively. The finding revealed that students had positive perception towards the use of Moodle and were happy to learn mathematics from the online mode rather than face-to-face mode. It was suggested that the Moodle, if used appropriately and systematically, benefits tutors and students equally.
