Lower Egypt Comprising Maps Of The Cultivated Area Between The Mediterranean Sea And Cairo. Volume II. Upper Egypt Comprising Maps Of The Cultivated Area Between Cairo And The Sudan Boundary.
By Ministry of Finance, Egypt, Egypt. Wizarat al-Maliyah and Egypt. Maslahat al-Misahah
Zoomable full resolution image available at davidrumsey.com . This image 10285.093 is a part of image group 10285.000 . Preface continues Only one other copy of this atlas is located in Worldcat. It appears to have been produced in limited numbers for banks and businesses. Sheets dated from 1908 to 1919. Most of the sheets say "Reproduced by the Photo-metal Process at the Survey Department, Egypt." We assume the the British Ordnance Survey had some role in the design of these sheets, given the similarity to the Ordnance Survey sheets of Great Britain made in the same time period and the British influence on the administration of Egypt since the building of the Suez canal. Not all sheets in the key sheet are included in this set - some sheets were not yet ready and others may have been left out because they only showed the desert area. The post binding allowed for updating and adding new sheets. The seven sheets of the Kharga Oasis (204-214) were likely added later. Many of the maps have been trimmed at the top and bottom borders to fit into the binding. The maps show the soon to fade Ottoman influences on the Egyptian landscape. Many of the maps have been trimmed at the top and bottom borders to fit into the binding. The maps show the soon to fade Ottoman influences on the Egyptian landscape. 15DTIC ADA206212: Climatic Atlas Of The Outer Continental Shelf Waters And Coastal Regions Of Alaska. Volume 2. Bering Sea. Revision
By Defense Technical Information Center
This project updates the knowledge of climatological conditions presented in the 1977 publication of this atlas. The maps, graphs, and tables in the atlas present a detailed climatic profile of the marine and coastal regions of Alaska. Statistics give the means, extremes, and percent frequency of occurrence of threshold values for these elements: wind, visibility, present weather, sea level pressure, air and sea surface temperature, clouds, waves, and such supplemental information as storm surges, tides, sea ice, cyclone tracks, surface currents, bathymetry, detailed weather, and aviation weather. Data came from 4.5 million surface marine observations and 8.5 million observations for 66 coastal and island stations within the area 40 deg -84 deg N and 110 deg W-160 deg E, and provide the best possible climatologic picture of the outer continental shelf waters and coastal regions of Alaska. Keywords: Marine climatology; Aleutian islands ocean surface; Isopleths; Atmospheric precipitation; Meteorological data tables; Refractive index gradient; Wind velocity.

20DTIC ADA067731: Atlas Of Infrared Imagery Of The Sea Surface
By Defense Technical Information Center
This report is a collection of 192 examples of thermal imagery recorded from aircraft over bodies of water. These infrared pictures show the surface expressions of eddies, convection cells, currents, and thermal fronts in addition to sea ice, wind streaks, whitecaps, and waves. Explanatory information, such as portions of National Ocean Survey charts corresponding to some of the imagery, is provided. The imagery presented was recorded during the period May 1959 to May 1972 by seven airborne passive infrared line scanners (the Reconofax Camera; AN/AAD-2; Reconofax IV, Mark II; AN/AAR-30; AN/AAR-32; AN/AAR-35; and Reconofax XIIIA); brief descriptions of the equipment and a table of design and performance parameters are supplied. The imagery was recorded in the 3- to 5.5-micrometer and 8-to 14-micrometer spectral bands. Sensitivities of sets with the various detector types employed (Ge:Au, Ge:Cu, Ge:Hg, InSb, HgCdTe) ranged from 0.001 to 0.3 K; resolutions varied from 18.4 to 1.0 mrad.

21DTIC ADA149545: Atlas Of The Beaufort Sea.
By Defense Technical Information Center
This is a reference document on oceanography, meteorology, ice and climatology. The oceanography section contains information for circulation, tides, riverine input, ice conditions, storm surges and bathymetry of the Alaskan Beaufort Sea. From review of information on meteorology, climate, ice conditions, and oceanography, maps have been generated showing circulation in two typical wind conditions: ENE wind at 10 knots and NW storm wind at 30 knots. These maps show tides, storm surges, bathymetry and river discharges as well as charts of mean ice drift over time. The meteorology section contains information on winds, storm surges and waves. Included is a rapid manual forecast system for estimating the height of a storm surge. The ice section gives information on the ice zones, including the annual ice cycle within the nearshore area, the freezing and breakup of nearshore ice, and the movement of the pack ice. The climatology section includes information on the arctic climate, temperature information (including wind chill charts), visibility, and precipitation.

Zoomable full resolution image available at davidrumsey.com . This image 10285.094 is a part of image group 10285.000 . Only one other copy of this atlas is located in Worldcat. By Arrowsmith, John, 1790-1873 and Stanford, Edward, 1827-1904
Zoomable full resolution image available at davidrumsey.com . This image 11741.036 is a part of image group 11741.000 . Outline hand color folded map. Showing administrative divisions (Vilayets or governments), cities, towns, landmarks, roads, railroads, canals, mountains and rivers. Relief shown by hachures and spot heights. Includes legend and explanation and table. Prime meridian is Greenwich. Stanford's London Atlas Of Universal Geography, exhibiting the physical and political divisions of the various countries of the world. Partial folio edition published by Edward Stanford Ltd. Atlas dated 1884 by the maps. The Stanford map making company had been active in London since 1854. In 1874 they acquired the London atlas of 1834 from John Arrowsmith, with 50 maps which had increased to over 65 maps within 30 years. According to Francis Herbert, Stanford released a special limited edition in 1884 with 70 maps - our copy appears to be a partial set of those maps. Of the 70 plates, this portfolio contains 31 loose hand colored maps on 41 sheets in dark green cloth half bound leather portfolio with title stamped in gilt on the front cover. Title from the cover. Maps dated 1841-1884. Consists of sheets: 6-28, 30-32, 35-41, 43, 45,-46, 51-53, 57-58. Including maps of the continents, countries, kingdoms and empires. Showing political and administrative divisions, place names, and geographical features. Many maps printed on 2 or more sheets. Some sheets include 2 maps. On most maps noted: "Stanford’s Geographical Establishment, London." Most maps by J. Arrowsmith. Only two complete sets of the 1884 edition are known to exist, both in the archives of George Philip, who had taken over Stanford's in the mid-twentieth century, now held at the Royal Geographic Society, London. Eventually Stanford updated and added new plates. In 1887 Stanford published the London Atlas of universal geography folio edition with 90 plates. It contained important new maps, including the North Pole, Malta, Cyprus, the approaches to the Black Sea, parts of Canada and Australia. Imago Mundi vol 41, 1989, Francis Herbert "The London Atlas of Universal Geography."

Zoomable full resolution image available at davidrumsey.com . This image 3825C is a part of image group 3825.000 . Unusual collaboration between a Scot (Johnston), an American (Rogers), and an Englishman (Stanford). The maps are all on a scale of 54.5 miles to one inch, and are very well executed. They are derived from the large Map of The United States, British & Central America, by Rogers and Johnston, 1857. The western U.S. maps show the routes of the proposed Pacific Railroad. Rogers probably wrote the descriptive text. Johnston engraved and drew the maps - these maps are perhaps the best examples of Scottish highly detailed mapmaking applied to the western territories and states, in the pre civil war period. The only other example is Black's Atlas of North America, published in 1856, but not quite as detailed in the western states and territories, although it is just as good and maybe better in the eastern areas (these two atlas had to be competitive, with their issue within one year of each other). In 1873, J. David Williams issued the Jones and Hamilton "People's Pictorial Atlas" which uses most of these maps, updated. Then in 1875 the same maps appear in the Hardesty issue of the Jones and Hamilton "Historical Atlas of the World Illustrated." (see our copies). With full and outline color. Bound in half leather dark red cloth covered boards with "Atlas Of The United States, British & Central America: By Prof. Rogers & A. Keith Johnston." P3670; NMM 486.

This image 10285.005 is a part of image group 10285.000 . Full color, 21 p., 83 plates including maps and diagrams. The Atlas of Canada, first edition published by the Department of the Interior in 1906, was one of the world's first national atlases. A second edition similar in style and content was published in 1915, both editions, featuring thematic maps dealing with Canada's geology, communications, natural resources, population, economic activities, transportation, as well as maps of principal cities. During this period, a major part of Canada's growth was due to the great influx of immigrants into Canada, many of them coming to open up the farmlands of the Prairies. Consequently, the first two editions of the Atlas of Canada reflect a particular interest in transportation and communications and devote a significant amount of space to mapping the composition and density of the population. Bound in half leather brown covered boards with "Department of Interior 1906 Atlas of Canada." in gilt. Atlas is bound in half leather brown cloth covered boards with "Department Of The Interior. 1906. Atlas of Canada."
