As a series of tools, it offers opportunities for patients and practitioners; yet, as with any technology, it comes with risks. As with any tool, AI will only be as good as those who create and operate it. Given who we are - and our track record - that ought to give us pause.Understanding, interrogating, and mobilizing new technologies requires care, diligence, and diversity. When it comes to equitable, accessible healthcare, we require heaps and heaps of such considerations. In scholarly publishing, artificial intelligence chatbots (AICs)—advanced conversational programs—are emerging as generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools that can support the peer review process by automating tasks, such as identifying methodological flaws, verifying references, and improving language clarity. These tools hold potential to enhance efficiency, reduce reviewer workload, and address inconsistencies in peer review quality. However, their integration also raises significant challenges, including concerns about reliability, ethical implications, and transparency in decision-making. Peer review, a critical component of scholarly publishing, is already under strain due to increasing demands on reviewers and longstanding issues such as variability in review quality and potential biases. AICs have been proposed as tools to assist and augment the peer review process, for example, by ensuring clarity, completeness, and logical stringency of content. However, little is known about how peer reviewers perceive their role, utility, and potential impact. This study will conduct an international cross-sectional survey to assess peer reviewers’ attitudes and perceptions towards AICs in the peer review process. The survey aims to explore reviewers’ familiarity with AI, perceived benefits and challenges, ethical concerns, and anticipated future roles for AICs in peer review. Findings will provide insights to guide the development of policies and best practices for the ethical and effective integration of AICs in peer review.

Artificial intelligence improvisation (AI improv) is an innovative form of improvised theatre that involves at least one human actor performing lines provided by an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot (Lösel et al., 2020). While methods of incorporating chatbots into improvised theatre have been tested and refined for several years, this study aims to investigate whether watching AI improv can change people's impressions of chatbots and AI in general. To assess this, among other scales, we will use the recently developed ATTARI-12 (Stein et al., 2024): A unidimensional measure of general attitudes towards AI. One group of participants (group A) will be presented with a video of an AI improv scene. The effect of this intervention on participants’ impressions of AI (measured pre- and post-intervention) will be compared to the effect of watching a video of a generic improv scene (group B) and the effect of reading an AI-related article (group C). Based on results from a pilot survey, we expect our main intervention to generally have a positive impact on participants' attitudes towards AI, such as increasing their intention to use chatbots if possible.

AI-based recommendation and classification systems, especially those relying on data-intensive machine learning methods, are becoming increasingly important in various fields of application. These include various applications in the medical field – from diagnostic support to therapy recommendations. Especially in critical areas such as medicine, human control and supervision are among the key requirements for trustworthy AI systems. In order for human experts to be able to assess and evaluate AI-generated recommendations and classifications, it must be possible to trace the information on which an AI system arrives at a particular output. Hybrid human-AI teams offer the possibility for better decisions to be made in partnership than by humans or AI systems alone. For this to succeed, AI systems must be designed in such a way that people have a certain amount of trust in them on the one hand, but also critically reflect on the output of these systems on the other. This might also be affected by human's knowledge on AI-models and classification systems. The goal of this experiment is to assess the effect of explanations and the possibility of correction on trust and performance in the context of multi-class classification systems - while considering the covariate of AI-expertise.

Despite the existence of studies and reviews focusing separately on artificial intelligence (AI) or electronic health records (EHRs), there is a gap in the literature regarding how these technologies work together to promote patient safety. Therefore, this scoping review aims to map the available evidence on the use of artificial intelligence applied to electronic health records as a strategy to promote patient safety across different levels of care and healthcare settings. This scoping review will be guided by the methodology proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), using the PCC mnemonic (Population, Concept, Context) to define the inclusion criteria. Various sources of evidence will be considered — including primary studies, reviews, technical documents, and grey literature — in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. A systematic search will be conducted across databases and institutional repositories. Data analysis will be both descriptive and thematic, followed by a narrative synthesis of the findings, identification of knowledge gaps, and recommendations for future research and professional practice.

This study aims to systematically review the literature on the application of AI in RDM in university libraries.

Pain management in non-communicative end-stage patients represents one of the greatest ethical and clinical challenges within palliative care, due to the multidimensional complexity of pain and the impossibility of resorting to verbal self-reports. Traditional tools, such as behavioral scales, have provided partial solutions, but still face limitations related to subjectivity and the workload of clinical staff. In this context, artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as a promising tool to improve pain assessment in this vulnerable population. Its ability to analyze multimodal patterns in real time-including physiological, behavioral, and neurological signals-offers opportunities for more objective and accurate assessment of suffering. This project aims to map the available scientific evidence on the use of AI technologies in the assessment of pain in non-communicative adult terminally ill patients, in order to identify advances, limitations, ethical implications and opportunities for implementation in palliative clinical settings.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar laid out a blueprint for the future of Artificial Intelligence in India in an exclusive interview with NDTV today. "We want to be at the cutting edge in terms of where the AI goes," Mr Chandrashekhar said, quickly adding that the government is also looking to create "guardrails on where AI shouldn't go". "We also want to create our guardrails on where AI shouldn't go and we have laid out our doctrine for the whole world to follow. We are going to regulate them through the prism of user harm and not follow some other countries," he said.

This retrospective observational validation study aims to evaluate the accuracy and clinical decision-making performance of artificial intelligence (AI)-based language models in interpreting rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) findings. ROTEM is a point-of-care viscoelastic testing modality widely used in high-risk surgical settings, including cardiac surgery and liver transplantation, to assess hemostatic function and guide transfusion decisions. Although ROTEM-guided algorithms such as Görlinger’s protocol have contributed to improved clinical outcomes, the interpretation of ROTEM results remains complex and highly dependent on clinical expertise. In this study, de-identified ROTEM datasets previously obtained from adult patients (≥18 years) who underwent elective cardiac surgery or liver transplantation will be retrospectively collected and converted into structured clinical vignettes. Only cases with complete, technically valid ROTEM results will be included. Each case vignette will be assessed by at least three experienced clinicians, forming an expert consensus that serves as the reference standard. Parallelly, the same ROTEM cases will be interpreted by one or more large language models (LLMs) developed for clinical reasoning tasks. Each AI model will be presented with standardized prompts containing ROTEM parameters and relevant clinical context, including Görlinger’s ROTEM interpretation algorithm, and asked to answer a set of 14 structured clinical questions. These questions aim to identify the presence and type of coagulopathy and to recommend appropriate treatments, such as antifibrinolytics, protamine, fibrinogen, platelets, or coagulation factor replacement. Responses will be limited to binary (“Yes” or “No”) format for consistency across evaluators. The primary outcome is the agreement between the AI models and the expert panel regarding the decision to initiate treatment. Secondary outcomes include the diagnostic classification of coagulopathies, concordance in specific treatment recommendations, and standard diagnostic accuracy metrics (sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, overall accuracy, and Cohen’s Kappa). As this study involves secondary use of previously collected clinical data, no direct patient interaction or modification of clinical care is involved. All data will be anonymized prior to analysis, and appropriate ethical approvals and waivers will be obtained for retrospective chart review. The expected outcome of this study is to determine whether large language models can accurately interpret ROTEM findings and make clinically sound transfusion recommendations. These findings may support future integration of AI-assisted decision support tools in perioperative bleeding management.

This paper discusses methodological issues and strategies that underlie the development of expert software systems that provide research assistance to school practitioners of action research. The following key issues related to the development of expert systems software are examined: developing a knowledge base that represents research expertise; creating flexible development strategies and software environments; and addressing school research practitioners' special consultive needs. In conclusion, expert systems methodology for action research will be most effectively used in conjunction with an extended apprenticeship model, will reformulate how methodological principles are represented, and will improve the training of novice educational researchers. The virtual conference on the Artificial Intelligence in education and training was held from 11 to 15 November 2019. It was open to all members of the UNESCO-UNEVOC TVeT Forum, an online community with more than 6500 members. The conference sought to gather knowledge, insights, experiences and practices from the international TVET community on the opportunities and challenges of integrating Artificial Intelligence in education and training. Key reflections from the virtual conference include: (1) While the TVET sector shows interest in AI, this has not yet translated into institutional practices on a large scale; (2) The needs of multiple stakeholders must be considered in order to build truly responsive learning opportunities; (3) Changes in practice are needed to prepare students not only for the current labour markets, but also for future disruptions; (4) TVET providers should seek to engage as drivers of AI innovation as well as suppliers of talent; and (5) Developing countries -- particularly in Africa -- face additional macro-level challenges in adopting AI. We are examining whether people prefer gender stereotypicality or androgyny in voice-based artificial intelligence (AI).

This study examines the impact of an educational program based on artificial intelligence (AI) on improving social intelligence among Oralman students (a group of repatriates from among ethnic Kazakhs who faced unique integration problems in Kazakhstan). The main objective was to assess whether targeted interventions can effectively improve social skills that are crucial for successful social integration. The study involved 300 students aged 20 to 22 years, divided into experimental and control groups. Students participated in a six-month AI program designed to develop social intelligence using interactive tools and modeling. Pre-test and post-test assessments used the Tromso social intelligence scale (TSIS), focusing on areas such as social information processing, social skills, and social awareness. Following the intervention, the outcomes revealed that the experimental group had made notable progress in every area that was examined. Specifically, in this group, the overall score increased significantly from 59.37 to 82.33, and the average post-test scores climbed to 25.87 for social information processing, 27.33 for social skills, and 29.13 for social awareness. On the contrary, minimal changes observed in the scores of the control group emphasize the effectiveness of the AI-based program. The analysis of secondary data further confirmed the results: t-tests showed statistically significant differences in the post-test scores between the groups. The progress of the experimental group highlights the potential of AI-based educational tools in the development of basic social competencies, offering promising opportunities to support the integration of Oralman students into Kazakh society.
