"A World Of My Own, I Am Home" by: Wes Robert Ward I wish for one moment in time I could be someone else. Anybody, because I don't love myself anymore. I don't think I ever did. Day in, day out, it's the same damn thing. Night after night, I can't sleep in the dark so I turn on a nightlight. I see shadows, too many shadows. I talk to myself. I talk to the dead. I walk alone. I walk ahead. I only want to remember the good times in the past. As for the present I resent it to it's last. What will the future hold? Low and behold only one thing, death. What's left? We live and we die. I'm too tired to cry. Even though I want to die, I go on, I survive. Suicidal? No, never again, and that's no lie. Why? Probably because it takes a lot of effort and pain, and one has to be completely out of their mind. So somewhere there's a silver lining I search to find. A simple peace to sooth my empty soul. A place that I search for and to go. A realm of my own that I could call home. Like a Wonderland it takes a little madness and I go off into another world. Falling, falling, falling through clouds. Some voice says, "Be proud, search and you shall seek. Answers lay ahead and all around." Even though my head is in the clouds, my feet don't touch the ground. My mind is like an open graveyard, dead inside and buried. A little insanity is fine by me. I hurt no one, not even myself. A little insanity is fine by me. I lay on the tile of my kitchen floor and close my eyes and I hear the sweet serene sounds of the sea. I reopened my eyes in my mind, and I reached for sand and I saw the deep blue sea, a beautiful beach only for me. A pelican nearby looks at me, it stares at me, and it has a timer on it's forehead. Then sanity comes back revealing reality. I turn my head and I see no pelican but a microwave, and I look to see what I thought was the ocean… alas nothing but the bottom of my refrigerator. I closed my eyes again, then reopened them to see the jaws of an alligator. Screaming into jumping insanity I take my kitchen chair and bash the refrigerator. I turn to the pelican nearby and it turns back into the microwave. It says nothing, it just shows where I left it at 30 seconds after cooking popcorn. Born are we from birth, bred we are to the hearse. I leave the kitchen, fall on my sofa, feeling the after effects of a lunatic rave. "I want to be saved." I look towards my entertainment center with television, DVD player, and music audio system… and closed my eyes. I reopened them in my mind to find the majestic mountains of a wintery wonderland. I feel the icy arctic of the cold brisk air and suddenly I feel everywhere…. until the Grizzly Bear attacks bringing back crazy at that. There goes the television set as I defend myself with my baseball bat. Psychotic? How about symbiotic and neurotic? With a touch of whatchamacallit. A little madness goes a long way, and yet going crazy is something more to say. Blood and sweat drip down my face and forehead and I slowly go to bed. I lay down to go to sleep. I want to dream deep, to forget the world I live in, the world I kept giving in. I turn my head to see my alarm clock. I closed my eyes. I reopened them in my mind and saw a talking turtle. The turtle says, "Have you lost your mind? Slow I am, but I think you lost your mind." I replied, "I lost it years ago when all was well and good, and yet now I feel misunderstood and out of place." The turtle says, "Always look in the mirror, it will show you who you truly are. You see the mirror has two sides… one shows a reflection of who you are and the other shows what you will or might become." I got up, I walked to the bathroom, and I looked in the mirror… and I saw myself. Sanity. I closed my eyes. I reopened them in my mind. To find Adolf Hitler. "Nein, you swine!!!" I screamed as I took out the mirror with the toilet plunger. Lunging and screaming and cursing the Nazi that murdered my toilet. When they found me the next morning, the authorities, that is, I was in my bathtub covered in foil. I told them aliens were out to get me, plus my landlord was a dick. You see, a little insanity also has a little sanity, but not much. Going crazy isn't so bad, it's going lazy that drives me mad. I want to see the sea, I want to see the mountains, I want to be what I always wanted to be… someone other than me. So now I sit in a white padded locked room. I closed my eyes. I reopened them in my mind. I'm on another planet. And they're worried because I won't reopen my eyes. A world of my own, I am home. The End. 💫

In fact, having worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs, I have seen firsthand how often a promising start leads to failure. The grim reality is that most startups fail. Most new products are not successful. Most new ventures do not live up to their potential.   Yet the story of perseverance, creative genius, and hard work persists. Why is it so popular? I think there is something deeply appealing about this modern-day rags-to-riches story. It makes success seem inevitable if you just have the right stuff. It means that the mundane details, the boring stuff, the small individual choices don't matter. If we build it, they will come. When we fail, as so many of us do, we have a ready-made excuse: we didn't have the right stuff. But when she learns to know an invalid at Lee's Ranch who tells her the “Legend of Camelback Mountain”, and she learns the “Lesson of the Bees”, she begins to see a new hope growing<br><br>A letter to Lloyd, “the Little Colonel”, has the effect that she comes to visit the Ware's at their Wigwam for a month. Here she meets the handsome and likeable Phil Tremont who stirs something in her heart, and she wonders if he might be the one written in the stars for her. But Lloyd comes down with high fever shortly before Christmas, and while home on Christmas Vacation she almost breaks down, and the doctor says she must not go back to school but stay at home to regain her health.<br><br>Lloyd is very, very disappointed at first but by and by finds that Lloydsboro Valley holds so much of interest and interesting people which she really didn't know or had noted before. During her forced Vacation she learns to see herself and people in a new light. They were then faced with a trek of over three hundred miles across arid deserts, and a mountain range, constantly searching for water, all the while attempting to avoid detection by soldiers and the local population.
