1DTIC ADA168909: A Solid State Data Recorder For Space-Based Applications Using Magnetic Bubble Memory.
By Defense Technical Information Center
Earthbound recording systems come in many sizes and use various mediums on which to record the data. The harsh environment of space, however, introduces some unique problems. This limits the number of choices not only for the type of system but also for the optimum recording medium. How changes in temperature, radiation, lack of air, etc., affect the performance of the device as a whole must all be considered. Magnetic bubble memory technology implemented in a solid state recorder is a possible solution. Included in this thesis is a description of the development and history of the magnetic bubble memory, along with a comparison to other technologies. The design and implementation of a digital data recorder using off-the-shelf four-megabit devices is presented. A schematic of the data recorder and software used is included in the appendices.
