This is one of many short video segments which will be added to the Digital Tipping Point (DTP) archive. Brian Behlendorf's Wikipedia article describes him as "a technologist, computer programmer, and an important figure in the open-source software movement. He was a primary developer of the Apache Web server, the most popular web server software on the Internet, and a founding member of the Apache Group, which later became the Apache Software Foundation. Behlendorf served as President of the Foundation for three years. Behlendorf has served on the board of the Mozilla Foundation since 2003." Through his company, Collabnet, Brian has also been the primary developer of Subversion, which is the leading source code management system used in Free Open Source Software projects globally. Despite being one of the most prominent developers in the Free Open Source Software movement, Brian has also managed to remain a popular figure, which is not an easy task in a movement that is often very harsh on its own leaders. One reason for his popularity could be his very casual and friendly demeanor, which might be seen as unusual among engineers, who are often known for being prickly. Brian's congenial manner certainly comes across in these interviews, which was shot at his house in California during a meeting of Apache technicians from all over the world who had come to Brian's house for the purpose of doing drudge maintenance work on Apache infrastructure. Sine the house was full of chattering, beer-drinking programmers, this interview was shot in the quiet of Brian's bedroom.
