"An Investigation Of Digital Spectral Analysis Programs And Computer Methods Utilized At The Naval Postgraduate School In The Analysis Of High Frequency Random Signals." Description:
The Internet Archive:
The digitizing procedure used at the Naval Postgraduate School was investigated for possible sources of noise and other errors. Signals of known form were digitized through the Analog-to Digital Hybrid computer system (Ci 5000/XDS9300) . Similar signals were generated by digital programs on the IBM 36O/67. The resultant signals were analyzed by the computer programs UBCFTOR, which computed the Fourier coefficients of each block of data, and by UBCSCOR, which computed the power spectra of the signals. The power-spectral plots of the computer-generated signals were compared with the power-spectral plots of digitized signals. The analog-to-digitital process appeared to be relatively noise free. To further test the system, atmospheric temperature and wind velocity signals were digitized and analyzed under UBCFTOR and UBCSCOR. Plots of the time-varying spectra of these signals compared favorable with results obtained at other digitizing facilities.
