A library for use by the computer aided design system, known as the Control System Design Environment, made up of hardware and software primitives of the Intel 8086 microprocessor family, was written to extend the capabilities of the design system to more than two microprocessor families. Compatibility between this library and the Intel 8086 library was desired and achieved by use of designs originally realized with the 8086 library. (Author)

5Security Kernel Design For A Microprocessor-based, Multilevel, Archival Storage System

This thesis is a detailed design of a security kernel for an archival file storage system. Microprocessor technology is used to address a major part of the problem of information security in a distributed computer system. Utilizing multiprogramming techniques for processor efficiency, segmentation for controlled sharing, and a loop-free structure for avoiding intermodule dependencies, the Archival Storage System is designed for implementation on the filing Z8001 microprocessor with a memory management unit. The concepts of a process structure and a distributed kernel are used in providing management of the shared resources of the system. The security kernel primitives create a virtual machine environment and provide information security in accordance with a non-discretionary security policy.

The use of computer technology to control large pointing systems can significantly improve performance and reduce human work load. The goal of this thesis was to design software for an inexpensive, yet accurate and efficient control system for the 36-inch reflecting telescope owned and operated by the Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy. Within this thesis, a computer program is developed to automatically move the telescope to a set of celestial coordinates and track with an accuracy of one-tenth of an arc second for five minutes within 75 deg of the zenith. Set times are anticipated to be between four and thirty seconds. Corrections are made to celestial coordinates to account for precession, nutation, aberration and atmospheric refraction effects. The user is provided an interface to the computer-based system that allows storage and editing of 100 star positions, editing of the system parameters and display of the telescope's status. Manual control of the telescope is also permitted at any time. Safety of the telescope structure is the primary concern of system software.

11DTIC ADA055200: Design Of A Microprocessor Based System For Testing Of The NCR 2051 MNOS Memory.

The U.S. Air Force has begun using MNOS memories in ultrahigh frequency radios to provide nonvolatile storage of preset frequencies. The NCR 2051 is one such memory and it is necessary that the USAF have the capability to perform acceptance testing of these devices as well as to economically perform laboratory tests which may be very time consuming. This report develops a microprocessor-based computer system which will provide the necessary capabilities economically. The design of the Motorola M6800-based system is presented with both hardware and software considerations. The development decisions are discussed and a user's manual is provided. Complete assembly language software listings, which realize the acceptance testing requirements, are included. Flowcharts for all test algorithms and schematic diagrams for all interface circuits are also provided. (Author)
